Its all about coming to this point, where you really look at yourself in the mirror, and you try accept yourself, equally balanced between for both the long gone past, but also for the future to come
I sure like it. Not very common to hear Joni with such a fully arranged, broadway-esque accompaniment. The strings are right in line with her singing style; very feeling, and very much in the "ad-lib" passing moment style that she is so uniquely known for.
Joni's original was always the best version, so we thought ....till now! In fact. It's more poignant and profound sung by a woman whose lived many lives than a beautiful young girl who'd really not experienced much of 'life at all'!
joni mitchell, if you had facebook i would message you to say that I love you. and not because i wanted to get laid, because i love you, in the way that a man loves a woman and wants to tell her but he cant think of a way without giving it all away. i would say hey Joni, or maybe Joan, as if I knew you when you were young. i would say; Joan, i love you, for what you say, for what I know you feel as if I had the Authority. i would say that, nothing more. I hope you understand.
This song is for those of us who made it through it,made it past the finger pointers saying why didn't u,why didn't we what,we made it that's what, without the finger pointers
When I heard this at 16, sung in Joni's little girl soprano, I fell in love with her voice. Now, at 61, hearing this torch-singer alto, I'm still in love with her voice. She did indeed grow into this song.
This song marked a full circle for Joni. The song was written by an old soul and it was an example of how her music could go beyond even her. It was always meant to be sung by someone who had lived long and could look back which a advantage of age and objectivity. how could she write these words in her mid-twenties. Thats Joni. But to hear her sing it like this is how it was meant to be.
She finally grew into this song. After all the years, she grew into this song!
@nosnayack I recently heard a Jazz song by her on the radio and was so impressed. She could sing anything. I agree with you. Here she states more than sings. It's the honesty that strikes you. The words were always there, but they were more for radio. A Radio, like she wrote in the song You turn me on, I'm a Radio. Now she is, as you say, realized.
Gorgeous.

First there was God... then came Joni along... and then together they created all the rest of the world ...
And we all are still here...right?

So loved this song when it first came out oh so many years ago but how poignant it is now. Without being morbid I want this played at my funeral.

Life, what is it all about? Love this woman. Love this version of this song so beautiful and so full of wisdom!

Well she could sing anything she believed in. Those of you that liked this, it is from a CD called
"Both Sides Now". Songs like "At Last" "You've Changed" " I Wish I were In Love Again" plus
her own "Both Sides Now" and "A Case of You". Orchestrated by Vince Mendoza who won
a Grammy. Check it out. Buy it! Joni should get that from her fans.

Yep, Joni does come full circle here. The only other voice I'd want to hear this type of interpretation from would've been Sarah Vaughan.
