@TheAtomalone Tbh, there is no big difference. IN MY OPINION, others may think differently. I would say that the Gibson version is more of a collectors item. Also, only trained ears can hear the difference between a Gibson J-200 and the Epiphone version in a blind-test, I dont have the link for the article but if I find it, I can link it to you if you want.
@rocketjunkie88 He plays the same thing so that it's like an A-B-C test with each guitar, one that you can use to hear what each type of tone sounds like on the play-through. Don't you find it helpful if you were trying to pick between any of these guitars to buy, and didn't have a chance to demo too many of them at your local music store?
@jojiran i am aware dude that IQ's are indeed a concept of an aliens university endeavours encircling the deep blue Prussian ocean in real time. This Gibson J200 is the parapaleptic result of incongruous nebular positioning. it retails at $ 2500 in Croydons rockbottom.

i speak as an owner, or a former one anyway. they sound amazing! but you are paying a huge price for the aesthetics. if you have the cash, then you wont be at all disappointed with one at all
@budabua It sounds great with new strings. in all of these vids the strings sound old for some reason. look up more reviews, this guitar sounds great. plus it sounds better in person.
@bluespassionman88 He's using a flat pick when he strums (pause it at 1:28). He's just hitting too hard. Probably using jazz stubbys or something. When you strum that hard even a $4000 Gibson sounds like a $150 Alvarez :)
I've had lots of high end acoustics so far and I find newer Gibson models sound very dead and clunky. This model has some sound but not much considering it's a jumbo guitar. I also find the fit and finish on newer Gibson's to be sub par and when you're spending $2500 and up, it should be perfect. In order to get a really good sound picking up an older Gibson is key as the wood today is not what it used to be. For the money I'd rather a Taylor or even though they're made by Fender now, a Guild.
I use a Ibanez acoustic guitar and I wouldn't trade it. But this a whole new ball game... Must be the difference between the 700 US Dollars I paid to the many thousand dollars this guitar shoud be worth. Awesome instrument! Beautifully crafted and sounds just perfect. Thanks for sharing.
tried one in a store new,,and found it muddy ,,,yes it had newish strings on it ,,looks nice ,found the cheap Martin was much louder and with depth ,,,sorry not a fan ,, J45 is better but even w that martin just has better tone all around ,,just my opinion .......
Gibson is one of America's best small companies in many ways which like many has been so hard pressed by cheap price foreign made stuff the last 20 years or so. ( I don't mean the Japanese guitars which evolved quick to high quality as some Yamaha's like the Jumbo Paul Simon has,) but other stuff made in Mexico, Korea then China but, they have actually improved awhile back too. But, it's not the same as an old American made crafted guitar. So, why are they burdening Gibson now, with SWAT teams?!
I'm sorry but this video does not do justice to the large open note sound you get on the J-200. I've owned one a little over a year now and the sound is just amazing. Granted not all guitars of the same model sound or even feel alike (I've played on some shitty J-200's). They should've used a better sounding J-200....
@doggafella Go to a guitar store and try them out yourself. That is the best way to choose a guitar. find the one that feels the best and sounds the best :)
Tell me how listening to a low level recording of a$2000 guitar through a laptop speaker is of any use to anyone....its got nothing to do with the sound of the instrument.
@tailendcharlie It'd be wise of you to start reading the descriptions on videos that you watch so that you don't come off as ignorant. He uses TWO professional grade microphones to do all of his recordings. His videos are the best on the net to listen to if you want to know what a particular guitar sounds like.
@JMLizardKing1971 I think its all the prestige and crap associated with the name and because they're made in the USA blah blah blah.... tbh I agree with you, I've seen and heard much better guitars than gibsons
is this the standard j-200 model?! the outside between the top and back looks so awesome it made me think this would be an anniversary model. i definitly need to get myself one of these once in my life.
man there are tons of comments that ive read people talking about epis sounding just as good or better than gibsons... no way ...epi makes good guitars but its not a gibson
@rolling24waters ive played an epi that plays ten times better than some gibson. for 3 grand an acoustic better be oretty darn amazing and this is not worth it judging purely by sound. go get a martin
I bought a Gibson SJ200 Historic collection acoustic back in 2003. Paid $2,699.00 for it. Now the standard j200 like this one in the video are going for $3,900.00 and the VOS version like mine is $4,900.00 retail. A lot of money for a guitar....but I gotta tell ya the J200 just sings! Best sounding guitar I've ever played. the vid dosen't do it justice. Don't get me wrong there are a lot of great guitars and makers out there, so find one you like and buy it. But for me this is the one. SWEET!
You know.. For the price, I'd buy a Taylor, Yamaha, Martin, Takamine.. Hell.. Anything rather than a gibson! When they bring the price down to reality, say 1500-2000 tops I'll give them all the business I can. It does have sound benefits.. But none that justify the money.
@SaurianSoul Models you mention are pretty much average guitars.. difference is Gibson's guitar's are much prettier. In general they all sound kind of average.I'd add Santa Cruz..Collings..as being average as well. For one of these an average amount of money is all they are worth. But for a real instrument, not for a person interested in collecting toy's with a legend attached,a substancial amount should be expected to be spent.Classical musicians have 1 instrument,it is special,it sings & a spare.
When I was young in the late 80's I was a fool to buy new Fender..new Martin..new Gibson..which in the end only looked like the real thing but were stiff ,instead of paying double to buy versions made in the 40's-50's. Should have bought just one..instead of 3.. as there was no comparison in sound.Old ones had soul new ones were dead.
Try a new Lowden..a true instrument(only recent ones since 2004)..& Huss & Dalton who do a Martin like Martin used to do 100 years ago.Good luck.
I own one. And to be honest for strumming, they sound better with slightly older strings. Not too old though. But not too new either. I just put new strings on mine, and it's pretty average. In 10 years time it will sound incredible. I got mine signed my a man called Richard Ashcroft.
Gibson makes some nice guitars but not everybody has 5 grand just laying around so you have to buy what you can afford. Then put a piece of tape on the peghead that says Gibson and glue on a J200 pickguard and pretend your're playing the real thing. Or....you buy an Epiphone copy.
I have to carefully scrutinize the tone of this guitar because my girlfriend says the sound turns her on more than almost anything. But I'm to broke to get one so I have to build an approximation that will hit that magic tone!
sometime I complain about being poor enough to not be able to buy everything I want...then I look back and say..."who the fuck spend $5000 on a guitar?"
Fast decay, almost all fundamental, as maple is famous for, Great for a large band where the acoustic guitar needs to slice into a narrow nitch. The extra large size helps give some bass. They always seem to be short on the sound I expect from them, even the Brazilian rosewood ones from the late 40s. The J-100 seems to be more resonant and sustaining for some reason.
yupe...sounds like a Gibson. This one is more resonant and doesn't really "hold back" like the hummingbird. Well, it is a jumbo. I am proud to call it my ever first favorite guitar, although I've got my eyes firmly set on the D45 now. Both have its distinctive sound. Would love to own all two...hahahaha
@goola i like gibsons who in thier right mind wouldnt the great historical sound has made so many great musicians, but i have only found a few that favored me,in my time. i own a 1964 guild f40 the lower bout puts it in the almost small jumbo size,a great guitar.1978d28 br 160 1964guild f112 1985guild d30 alvarez ay20 , epiphone masterbuilt slope shoulder, and a doug jackson bolivin rosewood jumbo resophonic guitar, not real pricey instruments, but very functionable.
i agree with catseatingclouds...guy's an idiot, playing the same songs on every video of different guitars, lets hear different songs on each guitar! the versitility is questioned beacuse he doesn't play anything else on these guitars! wtf is up with that? come on man, you can do better, play simple chords, and strum it beautifully, i want to hear the beauty of each of these guitars, not the boring and lame shit over and over
i have a j200 !! i realy like my guitarr !!! i never played with a Martin ... but my next one will be a martin d45 !!!! but ouchh the price is so high ?? why ??
@freekoch Think you will find that the mikes are producing a combing effect and it is not the guitar. I own one and the Gibson. I use the Epiphone all the time !
@GibsonDJ22 Dude go for a Martin, way more quality and sound than ANY other acoustic out there. Martin has more experience with acoustics than Gibson. If you want a Gibson get an electric from them. Although Martins are a bit pricier than Gibsons they are worth every penny.
This is my DREAM guitar. To bad I'm a poor garbage man, i'll have to settle for the Epiphone version, which also sounds ama-za-za-zing.

THE king of flat tops. THE ultimate acoustic. The bass really punches on this.

sometime I complain about being poor enough to not be able to buy everything I want...then I look back and say..."who the fuck spend $5000 on a guitar?"

Gibson's sure sound purdy. Guild d55 has a pretty sweet tone too.

i like the taylor 914ce the best but the gibson i think is the best for the blues picking.

i agree with catseatingclouds...guy's an idiot, playing the same songs on every video of different guitars, lets hear different songs on each guitar! the versitility is questioned beacuse he doesn't play anything else on these guitars! wtf is up with that? come on man, you can do better, play simple chords, and strum it beautifully, i want to hear the beauty of each of these guitars, not the boring and lame shit over and over

@guitar20mania or, play the same thing so you can hear the difference with the same stuff

@freekoch Think you will find that the mikes are producing a combing effect and it is not the guitar. I own one and the Gibson. I use the Epiphone all the time !

GibsonDJ22 1 year ago
@GibsonDJ22 Dude go for a Martin, way more quality and sound than ANY other acoustic out there. Martin has more experience with acoustics than Gibson. If you want a Gibson get an electric from them. Although Martins are a bit pricier than Gibsons they are worth every penny.
