Some parts were a little rushed, which is hard not to do. The original is up tempo but controlled which helps to build tension in the song. 1st Cello you have it technically but need to stay in tempo. Too bad about the room acoustics. Not much you could do there. I would really like to hear it recorded in a studio where you could work on some of these issues. Keep up the good work!

I dont care what people say. I think metal can be played anywhere. Just because you're playing a 'metal' song classical doesn't mean you have to play it in a certain setting. Play anywhere you fucking want, as long as you're rocking out that's all that matters. I think ya'll did amazing!

Absolutely beautifully played. However, just because something is considered a "classic" song doesn't mean it should be played at a classical venue. Metallica is classic rock, but that's about as close as you'll ever get.

Suggestion for next time: Try Hall of the Mountain King... or something by Bach or Beethovan or even Tchaikovsky, if you're looking for something with some wiggle room for personalization.

Having gotten used to watching Perttu and Eicca swing their hair around, it's actually a little boring watching a subdued performance. Don't get me wrong...it's played fantastically...but unless one of them is my kid...I wouldn't want to sit thru this, let along an entire concert. Apcalyptica got it right...keep the rock antics in rock music...regardless of your choice of strings.

Many of Metallica's earlier songs had a very medieval, classical tone to them... very raw. The break in Master of Puppets is almost blatant. Sanatarium is another. So to me classical covers have always been an obvious progression.

Wow. Firstly, that was wonderful. Not quite up to Apocalypticas standards but very very close, and for your first gig too, thats brilliant.

Now, a question. I notice at the beginning, there seems to be a lot of grey hair in the audience. Were they expecting Metallica, or were they expecting more classical stuff? And what was their view on the whole night? Did you manage to convert any grannys over to the dark side lol?

I think it's amazing how well Metallica carries over to the cello. 5 stars.

the orchestras have them for a couple of reasons:

1. The way the music is written (they play from scores because that is where the music is (bands tend not to score their music and instead rely on learning the songs themselves) its also important to note that calssical musicians haven't wirtten the peices themsevles, but are rather playing someone elses work.

2. The orchestra can have as little as a days practice before they are due to play the piece, and it would be difficult to remember a whole symphony without the music.

this is being played by classical instruments. a lot of notes are played different than a regular rock, punk song whatever. Songs made by a band have the same beat, repetition of guitars and drums and shit like that. with classical it's more notes to hit. it doesn't look lame at all. learning something like this is hella harder than picking up a guitar and strumming along. Anyways, just wanted to add to the stand discussion ;D The reason an orchestra where u might have 60 ppl playing together using stands aint that their memory sucks so hard they cant memorize a concert. An orchestra is lead by a conductor and without the notes in front of you its hard to folloow him/her especially if your playing an comp instrument.
