  • You could make these for 20 bucks... Bag - free at your local coffee shop (just ask). Wire mesh in bulk at home depot.

  • This would be sooooo easy to make your self

  • 20ft of marijuana

  • John, you should have your own show! You are both entertaining and informative to watch.

  • this video is cool

  • Neat bug..

  • just remember that plants actually produce hormones that either enhance or repel other plants... You can seriously hamper production by putting incompatible plants together.

  • the bug was pretty cool

  • this is amazing! i want one

  • I want one they are kind of expensive though

  • Yeah coffee from Costa Rica :)

  • What about light? Just one side would get it.Also, it would dry very quickly, just like with strawberry pots.It should have drip or something else on a timer.

  • Now just marry it to aquaponics then it will need no chemicals

  • How does this turn out for you, John ? How does it address the sun issue ? Do you have to keep moving it around so all sides get enough sun ?

  • I would love to hear if this eventually worked out for you. It's a great concept and it does seem wonderful for both people who have a small space to work with, and people who find it difficult to work on their hands and knees, weeding... It looks as if it would save water as well.

  • ah, it's a giant Chia Pet.

  • nice product, but anyone can make those. the issue with those are on the sides, you really cant plant larger plants. its more for herbs and small leaf plants.

  • Dude. totally making one so I can stop buying crappy inorganic store bought overpriced herbs. like Mint. and Oregano.

  • trippy little bug.

  • Yess. I am making one.

  • The phytopod is a cool idea but cheaper would be a burlap sack inside one of johns tomatoe cages.

  • @corxrs I was thinking that same thing when I saw this. And that's how I plan to work things out next spring myself.

  • Why go through the trouble of finding all the parts and assembling something that does not work well when you can buy all the parts for a tested design ready to assemble?

  • Great idea. Could make one for about $5-10. Thanks.

  • You could make one of these using burlap and some fencing, then use some pvc for your frame and watering system wouldn't be hard at all

  • Great looking product - thank you for sharing!

  • This product is totally amazing. I felt really guilty throwing away my deteriated "topsy turvey tomato grower." This is 100 times better! This coupled with a counter top EasyGreen indoor sprouter could really produce a family a lot of really healthy foods at super low cost. I know this product is going to be an absolute hit!

  • great idea. roll your own. this aint einstein. it's just a f'in great idear. i need to see one to make sure I copy it right ...

  • Thanks for your quick response, John. I know you are busy! I will wait on the purchase of this until you use it and let us know how it works for you! I trust your GREEN THUMB!!!

  • John, how did this work for you? I am seriously considering purchasing one of these!! What other videos did you make with this growing system?

  • It never worked for me. The manufacturer said they would send me a sample unit to use, and to this date, I still havent recieved it. That being said, they did give me one at my expo I held last July, but then I forgot it, and they took it back. They did attempt to ship me one, but sent it to the incorrect address. I hope to have a video on it soon.. for this summer season..

  • @growingyourgreens So how is that it Never worked , if you never received it, They tried to send it to you , you forgot it, WTF is that

  • @jaysunzz Yeah, he lost me too.

  • When I read the comments about it being expensive I thought, well, I would expect it to cost up to $120 for the small one - I wonder what they're charging? So I went to the website and they're charging only $65 for the small one!! When you factor in U.S. workers (not slave labor), manufacturing space and cost of materials - I'm pretty sure they're not making a high profit.

  • @jinithompson sure you can spend 65 dollars on a small one, or you can probably spend like 20 max if you buy some tarp to replace the burlap, and some chicken wire as the cage. Get your own soil, bam you got a vertical grower.....i think im gonna try to grow some weed with this next year

  • wow... for someone old who wants a garden. i think it is a bit spendy. for most of those older people who can't get around they likely don't have too much money to spend on something like this either. for that much money i could have a full size raised bed all i got to do now is move it when i move.. hahahaha

  • cool insect. i love those kinda shows!

  • I like the phytopod! that's great ~Amanda

  • I bet I could make one of those things pretty cheap. His invention is actually not very original, I've seen stuff like that before. During the Winter I would have to grow the plants in my basement and use grow lights because in northern Iowa it drops well below zero and gets a pretty hefty covering of snow.

  • Looking forward to you testing it out.

  • wow john ! keep up the good work. I agree you need a show.

  • Pretty cool concept.

  • hrmmmmm too expensive for me. I was already considering something like this and watering seemed like the hard part to me until I just had a genius idea to just get creative with multiple drip lines.. I got the idea from the garden sock people who do practically the same thing he is except they do it out of a sac you can mount anywhere.. like all over your tree's trunk, or the side of your house, or on deck railing.. on your mailbox... etc they are expensive too.. =/ I'll make my own, thanks.

  • WOW !!!

  • Doesn't the burlap act like peat moss pot tops sticking out of the ground, and wick out a lot of moisture?

  • how much do these cost?

  • whats wrong with his voice

  • Very very cool! I want one!

  • Great idea. Can't wait to buy one!

  • Comrade, what type of fertilizer do use?

  • Héhéhé.. my grand father used to do this almost exact system with old wine barrels...

  • regarding the bug...crazy is NOT the word that came to mind...crazy doesn't cover it...

  • The perfect word to describe that bug is SPECTACULAR and AMAZING!! It's an insect that is found all over southeast Asia especially in Malaysia and Laos. It's a favorite pet for Asian children in those countries. The bug doesn't bite or sting. You can play with it for hours and never get bored.

  • @OS253 LOL I think bugs are fantastic!!! ...just not crawling on me LOL idk if they bite or not...I don't want to find out! hahaha

  • Oh I am ordering a few of them to go along with my raised bed garden

  • Just Great*****

  • Great!!! The perfect solution to my tiny balcony :)

  • interesting concept. they should design one with a solar powered lazy susan turntable. the phytopod would slowly rotate during the day and all the plants would get sun.

  • @BubbleBeet This is what i was going to say, DAMN YOU LOL

  • @BubbleBeet you could have made a lot of money with that idea...

  • you really should get a remote mic for your cam ;)

  • You need to be on TV. Maybe on that new Food Network channel "The Cooking Channel". There's an audience for that channel that grows the food that they cook. You can make your field trips a part of your segment! Just an idea.

  • This is AWESOME! Everyone needs to know about this!
