  • In May it will have been 3 years since injury and her muscle still has not fully come back. Vet told me stall rest (if I had not done surgery) was only other option. If you are working her now and her nerve isn't healed you could be causing more damage. Fancy didn't like stall rest either but she had to deal with it. She was on stall rest about a month until I decided to have surgery then another month after that. It's a timely recovery but seeing how she is now it was all worth it. Best Wishes

  • Hey :)

I'm happy to hear Fancy is doing well now. How long did it take for the muscles to return in the end? What did you do with her after the box rest?

I'm asking because my five year old mare was diagnosed with Sweeney Shoulder almost 2 months ago (Oct 18). She only had a week of boxrest, before the vet told us to turn her out again. Otherwise she would have run circles in her box.. A month after injury I was told to start lunging her a bit. Now I'm only going for some walks with her

  • @thekleeblaettchen Part II - her oder 'playing around' a bit. She's also allowed to turn out with the other horses. She's walking much better now, but there's still no sign of nerve recovery.. If it's not better in two weeks, I'll have the surgery done - the longer you wait, the lower the chance for the nerve to heal. If you want, watch the videos I took of her a month ago :)

    [I hope, my English isn't too bad - I'm not a native speaker ;) ]

  • Glad she is doing well! I have never heard of the sweeney shoulder. It's crazy that removing such a small piece of bone could make such a HUGE difference!

  • My horse, Shetan has a sweeney shoulder and a separated shoulder. i would like to find out more about what you went through. If you click on my user name, I have videos of his current state. Thank you!

  • Not winglets, wobblers. My phone auto corrected and I hit "go" instead of backspace.

  • I live in nj. I know of a chiropractor accupuncture specialist the vet recommended. My friends horse has winglets

  • How would I go about finding and accu therapist? I Posted a video of my horse who has radial nerve damage?

  • Fancy is doing very well. I am riding her and look forward to our first show July 10th :)

  • How is fancy doing?

  • We had an Electro-Acuscope Theorpist at barn and I talked to him. He says he can definantly help...that he had worked with about a half dozen of horses with sweeney and "brought them all back". We shall see. I will continue to keep posted.

  • Fancy is doing great! She did, however, break my bosses arm (one who is walking her in video) Long story! I will try and post a new video soon since it has been about a month since this one has been taken. She had been on stall rest since injury and after surgery. Since surgery we are now hand walking her a few times a day. Sept 1 she will be able to be out on a small turnout. Yay. Fancy was on bute and an anti inflamitory but is on nothing now. I am thinking about Electro-Acuscope Therapy

  • How is Fancy doing? Sorry I didn't reply to your comment on my video of Lena - been very busy with work. Surgery wasn't an option for her and we are now at just over 12 months, so very little chance of nerve recovery, BUT she compensates well so certainly has a future for a few happy years in the field, possibly even breeding one foal from her (for me) or a little lead rein work with a lightweight child.

  • Very kind of you to post this video - I have a yearling colt who has just injured his shoulder trying to climb over the top of a padded yard and he is walking a little like your mare though not quite so lame. Vet doesn't think it is too serious but could develop shoulder sweeney. How is your mare now - is she recovering? what treatment have you given her. Vet has put the colt on bute.
