Beautiful music and the images are also impressive. If it is your photography you should be very proud. The one thing that could be improved upon is that the speed of the transitions is often far too fast and doesn't sit well with the gentle pace of the music. You could halve the number of images and have a much better sequence overall.
Korngold was born in Brno, which was then in the Austro Hungarian Empire(it is now in Czech Republic).
He had most of his "classical" sucesses in Vienna, before leaving(as he was Jew) Vienna before Hotlers armies occupied it.He had a 2nd career in Hollywood.
So really he should be described as an Austrian/American composer.
@mamascarlatti-Thank you for your kind response. Tonality and vocal structure does resound similar to earlier recordings of Renee Fleming. I enjoy the visuals as well.
Che bellissima ! Just a beautiful piece by Korngold. Also stunning marble sculpture.Wonderful combination here. I know the Staglieno Cemetary well. Genova was my birthplace. Che bella citta ! Tante grazie oldsweetlovesongs for sharing this superb piece with us.
One thing though: Korngold wasn't a German even once in his life. Before he became an American, he was a citizen of Austria and before that a subject of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.
Korngold uplifted the quality of film music in Hollywood. There is nothing wrong with a great composer choosing not to starve. Thanks Erich. Mahler was right to tell your dad that he had a genius on his hands.
maybe the intro could read "a Jewish-German-American composer..." just seems wrong to call Korngold simply German-American--he once remarked that being asked to the US by MGM to do the score for Robinhood during the war was almost certainly all that saved him from death in a concentration camp...
I think I see what you are conveying with the different zoom speeds-- and I think it works well. I think we all just enjoyed the sculptures so much that we wanted to linger longer on each of them! Exquisite!!!
This is wonderful in every aspect.

Accidenti. Korngold (quest'Aria, poi....) e Staglieno.
Intanto complimenti, davvero.

@errolfan: Lied, as in german for song. You could also call it an aria as it comes from an opera.

@TheBlizzardcat Sounds like Renee Fleming

the beautiful if morbid artwork suited the song perfectly. How utterly tragically beautiful this is.

@nzaok You've got it . That's the part that scares me.

This kind of gives you a view of immortality and, consequently, our lack thereof. Pity.

You are Eurocentrist. Oriental art is much older than Western art. You should not make such sweeping statements because it shows your ignorance.

Hi thank you so much for this posting!
Staglieno is very high on my '100 Things To Do Before I Die' wish list - the irony of which is not lost on me there!
The music was a real find! Absolutely wonderful with the images!!
