  • The one person the marines hated morer then General Rupertis: the guy who thought it was a smart decision to put their water supplies into Gasoline Drums

  • how could rupertis be promoted to that position he has no brain

  • Stupid Japanese Army, annihilated (as they were) or bypassed (as they should have been) their efforts were futile and wasted.

  • Sutupid American army!!

  • @zohsun u stupid troll,go somewhere else if u don`t like the us army,i mean this is an american codumentary, those american soldiers fought for their country,as any proud civilian would

    so go fuck yourself,u jap

  • @zohsun

You are just bitter because you guys lost. Bit off more than you could chew.

  • @zohsun

    Let's getting something straight:

First, it was mostly the the U.S. Marine Corp that kicked your guys' ass at Peleliu; not the U.S. Army.

Second, why didn't you and the rest of your people commit Seppuku as was appropriate when you lost the war? Don't you know how much you and your people disgraced the Emperor and how you dishonored yourselve by being defeated by a bunch of "stupid Americans"?

    Idiot nip.

  • @357223308 i add mint we have gotten stupid over the years but were still a kick ass army

  • you said it man

  • I have so much respect and admiration for our boys who fought in this war. I'm sure when they all have left this world, they will all live in eternal peace.

  • Refusing help for reasons of stupid cap badge pride is to condemn innocent marines totally unnecessarily. I bet Mr Fessler would have appreciated some assistance when stuck out by himself.

  • Water in petrol drums.......hope they fried someone over that!

  • @dougyoolikeme It is hard to believe.....

  • WARS ARE MADE ONLY FOR MONEY AND LAND

  • @ZIZELYIANN no its not its made up of conflicts over power

  • One of the major problems the Marines encountered at the outset of the operation was the lack of drinkable water. This was not mentioned through 6:03 of part 3 of this excellent video.

  • But something in me died at Peleliu. Perhaps it was a childish innocence that accepted as faith the claim that man is basically good. Possibly I lost faith that politicians in high places who do not have to endure war's savagery will ever stop blundering and sending others to endure it. - E.B. Sledge, from "With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa".

  • @rkelly62 Outstanding book and the best one I've ever read on the fighting in the pacific

  • Maybe would have been better to play a waiting game, let the japanese stay on the island and concentrate on cutting off supplies, without supplies, the japanese on the island would have been helpless. Keep up sporadic bombardment from air and sea until either they surrender or are so weak and battered they offer little resistance.

  • Peleliu had epic loot. Japanese had many purple items, such as shin gunto swords which can be duel-wielded and give +20 strength.

  • Was there snakes on these islands?

  • @innit27 - there is a garrison of 10 thousand plus Japanese soldiers. Marines getting torn to pieces. And this retard called innit27 is worried about snakes? hahah you fucking faggot...

  • Conclusion: Was Peleliu necessary?

  • @leehollings yes it's necessary because of the airfield. if the americans didn't capture that island it willbe a threat to the liberation of the philippines

  • @jomardomingo77 Well, that would depend on how well the airfield was supplied. Many other islands were just surrounded and allowed to "die on the vine" - how different was Peleliu? Was that airfield likely to be much of a threat? It doesn't seem to have played much of a role in the battle itself.

  • Was Rupertus an idiot. Why did he not accept the 81st Army Regiment to bolster his offensive?

  • We Marines have a sense of pride that can seem extreme. If you look at history of WW2, you'd think that the Marines were the only ones in the Pacific. Of the 26 infantry divisions deployed to the Pacific, 20 were US Army and remaining 6 were Marine Corps. At one time the Army didn't respect the fighting prowess of the Corps. The Army and Marine Corps way of training and fighting remains to this day very different.

  • @gjohnsoningary Well said Marine! Still to this day when the going gets really tough only the Marines have been proven to the most effective combat unit.

There is a reason for our cocky pride.

    Semper Fi!

  • why didn't the US use battleships to open fire on those mountains?

  • positions too well entrenched

  • @masses686 A shell on normal groud will penetrate and its force be contained, making it more effective. On these coral islands the shells just exploded on the surface harmlessly unless it happened to score a direct hit on an emplacement. Thus the only recourse was to attack each emplacement one by one - making this the most awful - and really pointless as Halsey knew - battle of all. Taking a shit was a life or death adventure - "Fear and filth go hand in hand" - E.B. Sledge.

  • @masses686 They did. Plus cruisers and aircraft.

  • 2:40 With all respect but E.B. Sledge wrote that the 5th marines ran over the airfield to secure it

  • Rip Everett Pope

  • on 1:05 y he walk like that ?

  • I wonder how many casualties could have been avoided if rupertis wasn's such as cocky fuck. What an asshole

  • in total fairness, cockiness is how the Marine Corps rolls but ya it doesnt seem prde was worth so many lives

  • It wasn't so much about pride as it was about the lack of any real "joint operations" experience between the various services. Commands weren't all that good at interoperating then as they are now.

Communications protocals were different, branch to branch, methods and practices were different, etc and so on.

The US Army didn't like operating with other branches any better than the USMC did at that time.

  • The Marines didn't think too much of him.

  • @XiXUSMC

Or if they had called off the landing altogether. I mean my god to fight for so long and to lose so much just to find out they didn't need the island.

  • That place is dam hot...due to the earth equator,de heat which came frm the rifles, missles n grenades...those increse de temp.

  • don't make stupid comments like that, or should i say "lol ur sch a dmb fggt"? I have no idea what makes war funny. Absurd, yes at times, but never funny.

  • what the hell kind of rifle does that japanese soldier at 1:11 have? looks like a mauser 98k or an enfield no. 4 instead of a type 38 or 99 arisaka

  • i think there the type 99 arisaka

  • nope, if it was an arisaka, i wouldnt have made the comment. looks like a 98k.

  • 98k is a German weapon

i think it was an Arisaka

  • I know, but I've noticed that sometimes history channel has used german or even russian guns in the place of japanese ones when they run out of rifles. Arisaka has a straight bolt handle, and this one was curved too.

  • yep! and its bolt handles edge is not ball shaped but has an egg like shape.

  • It has the mauser style safety and a curved bolt handle. Arisaka had a round safety nob, and a straight bolt handle.

  • there was a sniper vertion of the type 38 that was called. they thype 97. it had a bent bolt. they usaly came with scopes. but the scopes were so crapy that most of them fell right off.

  • I've heard that the Arisaka was actually a pretty good gun, especially the 6.5mm

  • nah you just go to sleep forever...oh wait...

  • can you drink gasoline or does it poison you

  • lol lol u fucking Dickhead

  • lol fail @ americans putting water in oil drums

  • Yup, They got smarter and smarter right up to VJ day.

  • This was one nasty battle the Japanese kept getting smarter.

  • every pacific fight was like D-Day in europe stretched out for months on end. the 1st marines dont get enough credit.

  • wad credit?

  • that is so true! but the fact is the army had many anfibius assaults! normandy, sisaly, solerno, anzio, southern france! and the germans were way tougher then the japs! but the marines had a tougher terien to fight in and the japanesses were better fortress troopers!

  • @tomster73 even the SS weren't as tough and fanatic as every Japanese soldier Marines encountered

  • @ramberghini not just the 1st marines.....all the guys that fought there.

  • @ramberghini It was no different for the US Army in Europe. Many D-Days...Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, the Saar...the list goes on and on.
