I've just tryed the difference between normal driver (101 mb of memory) and the d3d one ( 85 mb) and with the second one Igo is fluid almost like the magician!! ;)
I have a Tytn II with original WM 6.1 ROM and have never had any video problems. I benchmarked the Matrix Reloaded clip.
TCPMP (Zoom 100%)
======================
RL_MQB (320x240):164.96%
RL_XQ (640x480): 84:40%
With Coreplayer the results are 189.69% and 87.05%. These results are dramatically better than old figures reported for TytnII at Smape (97.62% and 23.38%). Hence, the video driver has been much improved. But for 3D gaiming you need still install HTC class action drivers.
i have a htc magician for over 2 years and i can't complain about it. it's one of the fastest pdas and with wm6.1 upgrade it's even faster. tytn is better only because it has built in keyboard and wifi. But as a matter of speed and stability the magician rules
I know my Kaiser (tytn II, tilt, whatever) runs GREAT the first few days after a flash. If yours is slow two things to do to make it snappy are DISABLE THE PUSH EMAIL and also DISABLE THREADED TEXT MESSAGING as it is bugged. (Threaded text messaging is the new addition to WM 6.1 that shows texts like a chat window)
You're REALLY missing the point here. The point is that BOTH devices are using stock ROMS, the ones they were shipped with. One shouldn't have to flash a hacked ROM, and screw with settings, to get decent performance.
Since this video was made, community made drivers and ROMS are out which pretty much fix the problem, but bugger all from HTC still.
I have a Tytn 2 for a year now and have had nothing go wrong with it since day one....I also know alot of poeple that have them and say the samething...I think the crap that's talked about on here concerning the tilt is a bunch of crap....you guys must not know how to use the phone or are just abusive to a phone no matter what kind.....
It's all about missing drivers. XDA devs have released a lot of roms with better drivers and the tytn2 runs faster than an iphone with any of the latest roms.
no, it's a genneral problem with all T2's. the HTC rom, and the ports of the WM6 ron to the OEM (like Tmob) do use hardware opmisation on the graphics, which it is capable of doing.
not sure what the deal is cause i have the kaiser but its not tmobile its att and it runs better than both of those phones....makes no sense to me if you say they are the same
I just got my wife a xv6900 and I can confirm it cannot play video smoothly with any amount of massaging. I cannot believe this is a final product! Her old 6700 destroyed this new phone in playing ability.
Possible, but not likely. I have tried several different ROM's on the device, including the official T-Mobile and HTC ones. They ALL perform like this.
@karsten161: Where the hell do you get that? Do you even OWN an HTC handset? You sure spew it like you know EXACTLY what's going on. I fail to see ANYTHING in the video showing that the phone on the right "has a lot of applications open in TYTN II" -- Are you trying to spread misinformation, or are you just ignorant?
I tend to trust the research of multiple people over your baseless, thin-air opinion. I'm sure everyone else will too.

Believe what you want, but 1000's of people have corroborated the poor performance difference between the two devices, check the XDA-Developers forum if you don't believe me. I guarantee you that this is not fake, TomTom really DOES perform that poorly against the Magician. I've even updated my device with WM6.1 and HTC's optimizations now, it's STILL patheticaly slow next to the Magician.
This is not fake. The Tytn II's ROM is missing the needed video driver, which is why it's performance is so bad. In it's current state, it's like running your PC without the video drivers. That's all, and it's ridiculous that HTC isn't doing anything about it. What's so hard to comprehend here?
i wont buy such a mobile to play games or watch movies. GPS is important, but fortunately not for me. The point is: it runs WM with thousands of programs related to my business (engineering and management), qwerty, good camera, wifi, bluetooth, skype, touch screen, emails, what do i need more? Where can i find it? Real Qwerty is essential to me. Iphone is useless for my business. N95 is appropriate to multimedia only. HTC is almost the only one option I have, unfortunately with some issues.
I knew it. ihad a p3600 and it sucked at all functions ,video playback , gps loading times and others .thats why i ll go with the iphone arm at 620Mhz and not qualcom 400mhz i totally knew it
That would kind of defeat the point of a comparison don't you think? Both devices are running their factory shipped ROMs; so function just as they should for anyone else.
I can confirm this Video. I have also a Tytn II and the Demo looks very simular. Its the first time i jump from Nokia PDA's away and now i get shit like this....
My HTC TyTN II has exactly the same performance as the Magican shown here. To be excact, the Performance difference between WM5 and WM6 is noticeable, but you can easily fix this by a few registry modifications.
The Kaiser is one of the most advanced Pocket PC availible. I can only recommend it. Send me a message if you have questions.
@redfox2k8 If I can ask you, I too have noticed several performance issues with the tytn 2, here in the states known as the HTC 8925 tilt. I noticed text messaging keyboard response was super slow. How do I fix this. Also, what other optimizations would you recommend?
I live in Dubai and was waiting for price drop on the Tytn II to approx 2500 AED before I would buy it. But now I am definitely not going to purchase it. HTC are an unethical company and don't deserve my hard earned cash.
some of you people are ridiculous who cares it works...oh my GPS is a fraction of a second off I'LL NEVER BUY HTC AGAIN!!! Get a life...slightly functioning stuff sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't that's something to complain about
A friend is selling a brand new HTC Touch Cruise. Before going to HTC's web site to find out specifications of this device, I visited Wikipedia to learn more about the company. There I found the htcclassactionDOTorg link. And, there I found the link of this video. If it is any comfort to you frusturated buyers, I decided not to buy it. Thank you all and hope you get your problems solved.
the thing is, while it is a problem, it's not unusable. it's dissapointing. in my opinion, also unethical for them to do such a thing; release new devices at outrageous prices that are out performed by 3 years old devices. there is no grounds for a lawsuit or anything like that...but i'm 100% positive that this whole thing has caused alot of negative attention for HTC, losing thousands of customers. Myself included.
Well, I actually bought an HTC S730 because I had done some research. And i'm super happy with it.
The fact that there is some unwired+unactivated ATI hardware in the device (in very flexible chipset actually) doesn't mean that it runs worse than other devices without that chip because of that fact. HTC had stated that they're gonna release a firmware update because there is A SOFTWARE BUG which slows rendering down. BTW, HTC would have had to pay ATI for activating ATI technology.
That make absolutely no sense. If their reason for not "activating" the technology is because they don't want to "pay" for it, then why did they include it in the first place?
They included a CHIPSET which has many POTENTIAL features. Manufacturers CHOSE which ones to pay for&enable (4 ATI, qualcomm). It's like with software: DVDs (medium) cost very little compared to licenses.
So the fact that there is unactivated hardware in our devices is only a result of Qualcomms preference not to make many editions of the chipset but license options instead. It makes chipset manufacturing more efficient.
The only problem with that is enthusiast's pity. Can't they crack though?
The thing is, the graphics portion of the Chipset is HALF THE FREAKING CHIP!!!!!!
In addition, it is Electronic Devices 101 that you need to have seperate Graphics to prevent the whole system from lagging. Any halfway decent Electrical Engineer or Computer Engineer knows this. The problem is all the MBAs and accountants telling the engineers what to activate and not activate, instead of listening to what is actually NECESSARY!!!
It's hard to change angry, knowless man's opinion, but I will answer that.
First of all, a regular HTC product owner doesn't deal with how the chipset looks like from inside. HTC's point is to provide quality devices which MEET THE SPECIFIACTIONS. Secondly, you should know, that none of previous HTC pdas/smartphones had any king of GPU, so these new products is NOT AN EXCEPTION, great technician.
First off, THEY DO HAVE GPUs! Just look at the TyTN in the Video. That has a GPU.
Second, we are talking about DISABLING half of the CPU. The MSM7x00 series of CPUs had a second ARM processor built into the core that was designed to replace a second GPU processor on the board to reduce costs.
Finally, the whole point is that some Businessman decided to make an engineering decision to disable one of the core features of a chpset that they ACTIVELY ADVERTISED, in order to save 50 cents/unit.
The fact that TyTN is faster doesn't mean it has a GPU for advanced rendering! Newer devices are slower because of badly optimized software, and HTC will launch firmware upgrade with software optimizations, so new devices will perform as good +better. The problem is thad they have not released any updates so far though.
Say something new. For example, name some differences in graphics betwen TyTN and TyTN II - that should make the whole point.

you might want to turn off the bluetooth you have running on the TyTN II and all the other usless crap probably running in the background before doing these "tests" my TyTN II doesn't run that slow while using tomtom, or copilot or GPStuner.
Bluetooth wasn't enabled, nor was 3G, GRPS, WiFi; nor were ANY apps running in the background. The GPS chip was active, but only because you can't actually choose to disable it from inside TomTom. All today screen plugins were disabled and the phone had just been freshly soft-reset. Or did you not actually read
correction, they did not release a ROM! instead they released a statement! saying basically that we all who bought TytnII are screw ups and that Tytn II (despite costing us 700+$) is not designed for running even basic videos !

The fact that they know about this problem and are not fixing it yet pisses me off, and also the fact that i spent 500 bucks on my mogul. I can deal with sprint, but not sprint and htc.

No im not, this video is presented as a "HTC comparison" while the two phones run a complete different OS. This comparison just isnt fair since nobody knows how much the unlying OS influences the (TomTom) performance
The issue is not the OS Dapozt, in fact WM6 should make things a bit smoother if anything. The issue is that HTC has failed to release drivers for the ATI graphics board, ergo why the Kaiser, which is supposed to be far more powerful than a phone 2 years older, is running crap.
It's totally fair. The point is that a new phone, priced over $700, is running more jerkily than a 2-3 year old phone. And this is the flagship of the line.
BTW, to those who think it's about the speed of the TomTom demo, it isn't. It's about the jerky video rendering that takes place when the fake "car" is turning a corner. That's just an example of poor video rendering, consistent with ALL Kaiser II apps, 2d and 3d. My phone needs 5 seconds to rotate the screen when I slide out my keyboard!

A good example of why HTC need to now stop mucking about and release the proper video drivers for an otherwise superb device. HTC, you are shooting yourselves in the foot by using software acceleration and you will lose customers. This device is too expensive for such poor support.
Those appear to be artifacts caused by my camcorder. I took the footage several times but couldn't stop it doing that; even though the phone itself doesn't actually do it. I think it's a refresh rate issue between the camera and the LCDs.
i maybe wronge but iv just read that theres a problem with the drivers and that the HTC is working just on software acceleration where as the magician has hardware and software acceleration, i think when the driver issue is resolved it will be much faster
Isn't the issue here just the change in memory storage technique between PPC 2003 and WM5/WM6's. That is PPC 2003 stores data in fast RAM and WM5 stores it in slow flash ROM. This was Microsoft's decision so that data would persist when the battery goes flat, despite the horrible performance implications.
From the outline of navigation button and application buttons, is it indeed a Kaiser on the right ? At least it's different from the Kaiser in my hand
It's the T-Mobile MDA Vario III variant of the HTC TyTn II, as specified in the video. The outer casing is slightly different, and so are the buttons; but otherwise the device is identical.
Good demo. If only my Kasier (TYTN II) was a smooth as that "slower" phone. HTC need to pull their finger out and get the drivers written and released. Unless they do something they will be loosing a customer here.

The HTC Magician runs Windows Mobile 2003SE, the HTC Kaiser has Windows Mobile 6. So what are we comparing here?
dapozt 4 years ago
Are you saying that WinMo6 has enough bloat to justify the ridiculous difference in screen refresh rates?
Sqube 4 years ago
Gah, that comment was directed towards dapozt.

No im not, this video is presented as a "HTC comparison" while the two phones run a complete different OS. This comparison just isnt fair since nobody knows how much the unlying OS influences the (TomTom) performance
dapozt 4 years ago

HTC, i thought you were a serious company. This is really bad. I planned to buy a TYTN II but when i see this ... for sure i will never do!

A good example of why HTC need to now stop mucking about and release the proper video drivers for an otherwise superb device. HTC, you are shooting yourselves in the foot by using software acceleration and you will lose customers. This device is too expensive for such poor support.

I use TomTom a lot, but mine isn't like yours :S
I got a official unbranded Kaiser.

Am I the only one who notice blue blimps on the Magician? The frame rate seems better though.
imiris84 4 years ago
Those appear to be artifacts caused by my camcorder. I took the footage several times but couldn't stop it doing that; even though the phone itself doesn't actually do it. I think it's a refresh rate issue between the camera and the LCDs.
FloatingFatMan 4 years ago
i maybe wronge but iv just read that theres a problem with the drivers and that the HTC is working just on software acceleration where as the magician has hardware and software acceleration, i think when the driver issue is resolved it will be much faster

What if you use the HTC Wizard then as a comparison?
robert3892 4 years ago
Send me one, and I'll compare them for you. ;)
FloatingFatMan 4 years ago
If you install WM6 on the magician does the same problem occur?
robert3892 4 years ago
You can't install WM6 (or WM5) on the Magician. Not enough available memory; and no drivers.
FloatingFatMan 4 years ago
Clearly, there's a problem here.
theyastrabs 4 years ago
Isn't the issue here just the change in memory storage technique between PPC 2003 and WM5/WM6's. That is PPC 2003 stores data in fast RAM and WM5 stores it in slow flash ROM. This was Microsoft's decision so that data would persist when the battery goes flat, despite the horrible performance implications.
indiekiduk 4 years ago
no. under WM5/6 programs are still executed in fast RAM. However the databases for contacts/calendar and so on are now in Flash.
I guess tomtom does not need the calendar for navigation???

please htc, pimp my drivers.
coz it is a bit l-la-la-gg-gg-gy..

From the outline of navigation button and application buttons, is it indeed a Kaiser on the right ? At least it's different from the Kaiser in my hand
morleyhuang 4 years ago
It's the T-Mobile MDA Vario III variant of the HTC TyTn II, as specified in the video. The outer casing is slightly different, and so are the buttons; but otherwise the device is identical.
FloatingFatMan 4 years ago
Whoa... I though it was some TomTom issue at first because i've never used GPS on PDAs before. It looks amazing on the Magician!
mdemenok 4 years ago
Good demo. If only my Kasier (TYTN II) was a smooth as that "slower" phone. HTC need to pull their finger out and get the drivers written and released. Unless they do something they will be loosing a customer here.

make that 2.

This is truly horrible...

Wow, just wow.
At first I thought this was a GPS issue but apparently it seems as if that nasty driver issue shows its ugly head again.. :(
