Is the shadow under the ball another layer? Or is there a setting to make shadows appear? Thanks for sharing.

The shadow is in the same layer as the beach ball. Looking at it, it appears to just be a separate object that is animated in step with the ball.
The bouncing beach ball, along with the shadow, was a stock object that I just imported.
