I find confusion between hearing stories such as this- which seem common enough to have some credibility - and the experiences of others in traditions like Spiritualism who do not experience attacks or betrayal, and actually find meaning and an avenue of service in their faith. I'm open to being wrong, but it seems to me that the negative factors attributed to Spiritualism are not universal among all of its practitioners, and so maybe are rooted upon something other than the tradition itself.

The demons wouldn't be able to impersonate the dead if people didn't believe the dead were alive.

@GOTTshua Yes, I've met+heard so many folks world-wide ,like yourself, who thought various forms of the Occult were safe + ok, til they tried to leave it, and that's when their so called spirit friends or 'angels',etc, got obnoxious. Or when they had just came out of it and came to Jesus, the entities reacted badly. Me too ! But praise God, like I said in the show, the entities were cast out our home in Jesus lovely + mighty Name. Blessings :)
