I believe - and this is simply my opinion - that those kisses are the most beautiful. The soft, gentle ones, because they are so pure and innocent and sweet. But that's simply what I think. :)
@buggigurl713 It's untrue that this was Wentworth's first smile in the film: when he and Anne discuss James Bennett's remarriage; Anne remarks Bennett "will gain high spirits and cheerfulness and she..." At that point, Wentworth interrupts with "She will relish morbid poetry!" They both laugh heartily and Wentworth's smile is quite broad..impossible to miss. He goes on in a sadder vein, however, with his "a man does not recover from such passion" speech which may be why you forgot his smile.
Reminds me of my wife and me. I am 6ft 1 in. ...she is 5ft 2 in..We have been married 35 years this Juy. It was a fairey tail romance that everyone gave less than a year to last. We packed up and moved away from our detractors...only to live happily ever after....
I think one of the many reasons for the succes of Jane's love stories among all the other similar stories is that they take place not just in her age but in her reality too. The plots aren't those from a fairy tale or an advanture story but from her own social reality with all it's faults, prejudices and hypocrisy where a marriage of conveniece was the natural order of life and marrying for love couldn't have been further from reality!
ok so in the 1995 version of this movie.. they sail off together in his ship.. so which version is the true one? do they change everything in this one
I became so happy after watching Persuasion! So romantic and Rupert penry jones is georgeous! And he plays his character Wenthworth great indeed! Love the vid!
How do you know that people didnt kiss and dance on their front lawns??!! Maybe they did, they def wouldent do it now, as most men wouldent know romance if it came up and hit them in the face! Why you think so many girls like myself watch these things? This is what we want out of life, but never ever get!!
We never get it, because it doesn't exist.. there's no "happily ever after"... the closest we get to it, if we're lucky, is falling in love, being fleetingly happy, and then slowly discovering your lover's faults and feet of clay; and both becoming disillisioned.. and sticking it out because well, that's what one does. Isn't it?
No- we dont just have to stick with second best because"thats what one does"- we can change it if we are not happy- of course our lovers have faults like us- nobodys perfect- but i think ur being a tad cynical- we can find the love of our life and our soulmate like these two in the movie- some of us do some dont- thats life- but it DOES exist- i think our world is so obsessed with sex it misses the romance and old-fashioned courting and special feelings etc- now its just wham bam thank you mam
It doesn't exist, Missausten, well at least not forever! The special feelings fade, take my word for it. Or look around you at real couples and see it for yourself. Sticking it out after the feelings fade is the true test of maturity. Romance is wonderful, and necessary, but it fades; as does sex. Only devotion ad duty endure.
I'm not sure I entirely agree with you. I think that the initial infatuation feelings do fade, but the romance is there forever if you work at it. I think the biggest problem with the fairy tale endings is that they never go into how to keep the romance going.
There is nothing "the matter" with me except the fact that I'm not as wishy-washy as you. I have a lot of experience with 19th century literature and the society norms of the time. By the way, if you've read the book, you would know that these two don't even kiss, and their wedding is only mentioned. No lovely romantic details. Now, if they had set this scene INSIDE the house, I wouldn't have even commented. Whatever went on in the house was hidden from most prying eyes. But the lawn? No.
whats wrong with the lawn anyway? if this guy asked me to kiss him- i wouldent be like- hey, this is the lawn- lets not- lets go inside the house lol!! and im not wishy washy- i have lots of experience with jane austen and 18th and 19th literature and social history- so both our opinions are valid-and ive read this book and every other book of J Austens- yeah so what they dont kiss in it? thats cos it ended with the marriage- but this scene is their honeymoon and im sure they did more than kiss.
I just sighed. There is nothing wrong with the lawn...today. Back then? No. Even holding hands was taboo; it was arms linked or the woman's hand placed lightly on the man's. And I'm sure they "did more than kiss" on their honeymoon, too, because the woman's job was to produce children, usually right away. Things weren't as romantic as Jane made them out to be. Remember, she never married.
emm i sighed too- when i see how hot he is lol!! you didnt live then so you dont knoe where they kissed..lawns or otherwise= and yes no touching allowed- but these two are married so it doesnt apply here- things were more romantic than they are now- but then that wouldent be hard.
I give up. Obviously, anything I say you are going to argue against, even though you didn't live then either, so you don't know how romantic these relationships were. You need to find yourself a good boyfriend, because there are men who would do this for a woman.
im not arguing either with you lol! i just am a romantic i suppose! really? where are these good men lol? ive yet to meet them! goodness id love my husband to buy me a stately home!
I think she's almost to pretty for the role. She has a plain face. which you can't stop looking at. her cheekbones are exquisite. and her eyes are caring and kind. she has a fabulous mouth. anne was supposed to be extremly plain. almost like jane austen herself.she does a magnificent job of the roll. i just wish that directors would cast the role properly he is supposed to fall in love with anne's spirit and personality. not her looks!
sally hawkins have been better to have steamist and sexy kissing scene with a woman than this creepy man..i like her in fingersmith esspcially when she kiss elaine cassidy so.. yummy!although fingersmith is a lesbian movie but i really enjoy her performance in these movie....really2 great acting performs..and i really like her eyes too..so sexy!.
She is not plain, she is very pleasant and attractive. The problem is she is beaten down by her circumstances which has caused her unhappiness, something some of the remarks on this page would know a lot about.
