Why should she give Eric Burdon credit? The Animals had a well deserved hit with the song but it was written for Nina Simone and she recorded it years before the Animals ever heard it.
Well, I think she did a very emotionally passionate job on this old, late 60's pop song from Eric Burdon and the Animals... A good credit to her collection of fine music she's produced...
@maxdashu Her name`s Charlize Theron,,,this upload was an advertisement for "Jadore" perfume,,,The song was originally written and sung by,Eric Burdon and the Animals.
@maxdashu It seems like an imaginative and interesting combination to me. You think it doesn't fit because of the actor's color? (why else would you say 'white model' instead of just 'model'?)
@belzondium Because mass media stick a young thin white model in everywhere they can, and this is a song by an African-American woman about her experience. It's an erasure and inappropriate, just the same ole same ole, so i protest.
@maxdashu When you put it that way, you make slightly more sense, but not much. You're tired of seing pale skinny models, ok fine. I just disagree with the idea that doing so constitutes an 'erasure'. I thought it was a song about a universal experience.
I interpreted the image of the glamourous woman in silk as an externalization of the singer's inner beauty. I think the contrast has a wistful effect, suited to the song. It's not brilliant, but it's nice. Race didn't even occur to me when viewing this, so I am surprised to see so many maggot-minded comments on this video.
Maybe I just have to get used to the fact that many people can't experience art except through the filter of racial politics. That's sad.
@belzondium Race is a "maggot-minded" concept, besides the "glamorous" woman here is too stinky looking to be the externalization of Nina Simone's inner beauty.
@titusact4scene2 The first part of your comment: yes, race IS a maggot-minded concept, and that was exactly my point, couldn't you tell? For the second part of your comment, fine, but that's a matter of individual taste.
@belzondium No I couldn't tell, not really. I'm a cool and handsome black dude. I wouldn't want some stinky looking white guy representing my inner handsomeness, just because he's "conventional"looking! If you can't accept/recognize non-caucasian beauty, you'd better make damn sure you get some "top of the line" white guy to "externalize" my inner-handsomeness.I'm talking a dude with Terrence Stamp late 60,s type beauty.I think it's much simpler(and cooler) to recognize other ways to be beautiful.
@titusact4scene2 *Sigh* I was not implying anything of the kind. I don't even like this actress much more than you do. My point was that it's a song about a woman who is not so happy in life; constantly misunderstood. (Sort of like me in this exchange of comments with you, haha). In contrast, the woman in the video is represented as carefee, glamourous, etc; what the woman in the song (I don't mean Nina Simone, just the hypothetical protagonist of the song) would have been if life was kinder.
@titusact4scene2 Just so you know I'm not a racist monster, I will admit that I understand why you felt offended. I realize there's too much media obsession with stereotypical stick-thin pale models. I just thought we should have given the uploader of the vid some benefit of doubt, and try to enjoy it for whatever universal (not race-specific) feelings the video may have conveyed instead of injecting racial politics into this. But maybe that just makes me naive.
This video seems like nonscense, after listening to the same song with the civil rights clips in the background. Now thats a video that should be with this song!! Not this crap!!
This cool-ass song clashes with the video of this wormy, goofy looking woman writhing between the satin sheets. She looks like a meth addict. It's just silly. There are so many ways a woman can be beautiful, why not use a model who looks like Nina Simon? How about a beautiful Asian woman? Anyform of physical beauty but the same old boring unsexy shit!
Don't let me be misunderstood...I got faults just like anyone ! But, those are "my faults"...I'll deal with them, in due time...mine! Because , sometimes I can't always be an Angel; but my heart's intentions are a "force of/for Good"
well apostolosss u should cheack who was first but everything is relative even the original 4 me Joe and Nina are going with that one pretty good and i don't know who is better
@MrAugey Why this hostility? I haven't written anything to offend you. And what about this comment on my spelling? I've written three words in here: "Copyright my ass.." As far as I know nothing is spelled wrong there. Besides, you're not quite the grammar king himself are you now?
please someone help to find perfume commercial...there is woman in red beautiful dress? that have something to do with roses to? but i'm not sure, and the song is absolutely stunnig too, song ends up with load loud voice, it also have something to do with brilliants i guess, all i can clearly remember everything was absolutely red ! ...please help to find out what commercial is it...

You saying that cause she's white???... cause that would be a silly reason to say something like that. Being African is not about colur. And she is very much African!!!
I understand what you mean now. But in South Africa all of that is very relative. She might not fit other people's ideas of what being African is, but fact is she is a "boere meisie" that alone makes her an African.
*I know people get a bit crazy when debating issues online, so just so you know I'm not fighting with you nor do I mean my point of views in an aggressive way*
i respect your veiws and its good that you feel that every one is equal. what is a boere mesie???? i am not south african so i dont know what it is. sorry in seemed angry i wasnt.
Have you ever heard someone who isn't Spanish speak the language without properly pronouncing the words? In my Spanish classes, that was a lot of people, and I always kind of thought that not learning out to speak the language the way it's supposed to be spoken (in contrast, have you ever heard someone Speak Spanish *fluently* without proper pronunciation? Probably not) is kind of lazy, and a little disrespectful if you're actually trying to learn. I think Charlize is kind of like that.
She learned how to speak English the way we do because that's how we speak it. I think if you go to any country the ideal is to speak the language of that country as best you can. If anything, you should give her props, because I know for me, I couldn't imagine learning the language and pronunciation of our words (which is really bastardized British English if you think about it) as a SECOND language, because unlike Nicole, Charlize didn't speak iEnglish at all.
She is a South African. She DECIDED to speak English like an american. She did not learn the language while she was in the States. She spoke fluent English like any white person in this country. That is why I make an example from Nicole kidman. Because she also speaks English at home as a first language. But you kinda have to think a few times before you can place her accent. If one did not know that Chailize was from S.A to begin with. You would swear she grew up over there just fom her accent.
Ok.. not really looking to battle here, but the reality is that in the industries she works in, you're an easier sell if you can speak clearly, particularly in the US. She's not the first, and won't the last, to learn how to speak what is referred to as "Generalized American" It happened in the 1950's and 1960's with newsreporters, and there was actually a school for it in the midwest that many of them (not to mention actors and actresses) went to so they could learn to speak without an accent
*neither am I :)* My wonder is why she is not openly South African. Normaly you don't even have to ask S.A people where they'e from, they just tell you. She "hides" it to the extent of TOTALLY changing her accent even in social situtations,I don't really get that! (I suppose I don't really have to it's her life but I still want to know) she is a representative of S.A and my little sister had no idea where she was from untill I told her!!
she IS openly South African. In all the interviews I see and read, it is mentioned either by her or the person narrating/interviewing. I'm not sure which interviews you've been watching. But she has always come across as very proud of where she's from.
Being proud of where you come from is more than just a mention in an interview. I have seen her being asked about her Americanised ways on our screens and she shied away from the question. She went all coquettish about it. It's her choice, WHATEVER! the question is why?I know what I know, I am not going to change my mind. She is being a snob about where she comes from. If you have ever been to South Africa, you would know and SEE what Iam saying. She is a woman of great beauty and admiration tho
@rwmusic you wrote ""Generalized American" It happened in the 1950's and 1960's with newsreporters, and there was actually a school for it in the midwest that many of them (not to mention actors and actresses) went to so they could learn to speak without an accent"
It's still an accent, even if you call it "Generalized American". Everyone on the face of the planet, who speaks a language at all, has an accent.
Nreally looking to battle here, but the reality is that in the industries she works in, you're an easier sell if you can speak clearly, particularly in America. She's not the first, and won't the last, to learn how to speak what is referred to as "Generalized American." It happened in the 1950's and 1960's with newsreporters, and there was actually a school for it in the midwest that many of them (not to mention actors and actresses) went to so they could learn to speak without an accent.
I'm sure Americanos feel flattered by it. Probably don't even care, but WE do. She is a pride to us becouse of where she comes from and what she has achieved coming from our country. She is not a posh reared american, she is an Afrikaans girl raised from the platteland! I don't dislike her. But I'm also not going to run to watch one of her movies. Last time we saw her on our natioanl tv, she was saying "there are no real men in S.A" the cheec! when she spends no time in our country! HER HOME!
Not really looking to battle here, but the reality is that in the industries she works in, you're an easier sell if you can speak clearly, particularly in America. She's not the first, and won't the last, to learn how to speak what is referred to as "Generalized American." (I suppose I don't really have to it's her life but I still want to know) she is a representative of S.A and my little sister had no idea where she was from untill I told her!!
Why is she not being

she IS openly South African.

HER HOME!
