@Tim777G Much as I like I Love Lucy, even I was bothered by Ethel singing that song. It's a historically offensive song; just look up what "Mammy" was supposed to represent and how destructive it is towards the image of African-American women. Even you can hear a few groans in the audience when Ethel even says "here's my favorite song, Shortenin' Bread".

Thanks for this perspective. I didn't understand the song either. Ironic that they almost didn't green-light "I Love Lucy" because they considered Lucy and Desi's marriage interracial.
