  • I am a game designer in training, and i aspire to be a concept artist when i finally graduate. this video really helps me set a bar that i have to reach when i enter the industry. thanks alot for sharing these vids!!

  • Why the hell are there 144 dislikes? I know people have differing views, but why dislike this video?! I'm really curious

  • It's a shame you guys don't really do these anymore. Really interesting stuff for an aspiring Level Designer like myself. I would love to see some Processes for Gears 3, Uncharted 3, Rayman Origins, Bioshock Infinite, and just about every other big AAA coming out this year & next haha. Either way, thanks for these cool vids guys! :D

  • DREAM JOB! It ain't work to me, it's FUN!

  • ME2 Had bad-ass armor, and awesome environments on every single world I went to. Great work from that team!

  • what kind of studies do you need to finish so you could became a concept artist?

  • I have always wanted to be a concept artist i love drawing people and surroundings ect! But people think my female characters are too pornographic!

  • ireallly really really want them to do new episodes of art of the game.......could some please tell me they didnt stop this

  • Does anybody know what kind of devices they use to draw into the computer?

I like to draw and i draw very good, so as an artist i really like to draw that way like the conept artists do.

  • @mh294m

First of all, you will need a drawing tablet.

Drawing tablets are generally divided in 2 groups:

-"normal" drawing tablets (based solely hand-eye coordination, meaning you draw on a tablet that is connected to your pc)

-monitor integrated drawing tablets (the kind of tablet the guy uses in this video)

But beware, the lcd tablets are significanctly more expensive (ranging between $500-$2000, whereas normal ones will cost only $50-200)

If you're going to buy one, I would recommend Wacom

  • @mh294m They use things called "Tablets". Search for tablets like "Wacom Bamboo Tablet" if you want to start.

  • i love this show please do make more of these.....there are so many awesome game in 2011.......saints row the third , bf3 , mw3 , assasins creed revelations ,

deus ex , rage , crysis 2 , elder scrolls : skyrim , uc3 , infamous 2 , killzone 3 , and so many more....please do at least some of them.....if any fans are there thumps up so that the makers could see it...thanks!!

  • And GiantBomb says they don't like Concept Art. *sigh* Their loss, I guess. >_<

  • Does anybody know what tablet/tablet PC he's using here? Not that I'd be able to afford one, but I hate the seperation of the tablet and screen when using my wacom.

  • @MasaChu He's using a Cintiq by wacom, its quite expensive: 1000-3000$.

  • Shepherd > Ashley > Tali [ME1]

    Shepherd > Jack > Miranda [ME2]

    Shepherd > Jack/Tali > James Vega/Miranda/Ashley/Legion [ME3]

So hard, Mass Effect 3 is going to be evil, I want to know what Tali looks like, but i love Jack's Attitude it makes he very desirable, and Miranda? No explination needed, hot as hell, Ashley is fit, but gets abit annoying. and basically, Garrus seems abit 'TO' friendly towards Shepherd, so Vegas seems like a bro. Hard choices... Legion is just a bad ass so cool

  • sort of reminds me of iron man.. but cooler?

  • there are only 3 things i've ever wanted to do [job wise] a. arenautics/astranault b. artist/game designer b. audio engineer

  • How much concept art did they have too do for the environments?

  • JACK WITH HAIR IN ME3!!! THUMBS UP IF YOU WANT THIS TOO!!

  • Waw! Look at those death masks!

  • hope someone makes an Art of the Game for Mass Effect 3

  • What do you take in college to become a concept artist?

  • @spartanK42 There is a major called sequential art that covers concept art, along with storyboarding, comics, and a few other things. There are only a few schools that offer it (CalArts, SCAD, and RISD are the big ones), and they are all pretty expensive ($40,000+ a year), so I would recommend going to a cheaper community or technical college to get your core credits and then transfer to one of them.

There are probably other ways, too, but this is one very specific way. :)

  • the illusive man was looking at a dying star???????

  • @jedimaster1326 Probably footage of it before it went BANG!

  • well they better tell what are the meanings of the tattoo in a artbook or something or they are WORTHLESS. good to see femshep getting some love in a video from a concept artist.

  • If I had the skill, which one day I hope I will, I would love to get payed to just sit down and design a fuckton of helmets.

  • Im going to VFS, thats where Grads worked on Mass effect, district 9, Avatar and Toy story 3. Its such an amazing school.

  • @flamer41 i currently attend full sail which is an awesome cool as well very great place for game art and computer animation

  • @XTHEGAMERGUYX good luck with paying back that tuition lmao

  • Games need to be considered an artform these days... I work on in the Games Industry and the amount of talent and work produced is amazing.

... then you get people whining about the price of games... your lucky... all of you

  • thane is the best overall made character, the voice, the attitude, the looks, the way he moves, the beliefs, everything.

  • I'm going to ART school so I can do this when I graduate. :]

  • No, it's the 10th

  • Might i say sirs and ladies that it is an insult to say that the graphics in Mass Effect 2 arn't considered to be an art form. It must of taken ages just to get the character models up to halo 3 stndard never mind the Mass Effect 1 standard, but to graphically surpas Mass Effect 1 so much is an achiement (Bleep Bloop Acheivment unlocked 1000 GS)

  • Wow, some of those helmets are mega badass.

  • Real Asian brides are there **busizz4me.info**

  • I LOVE GAAAAAMMMEESSS

  • Ok putting a end to the arguement Art is in the eye of the beholder the end and Questions?

  • 1:30

  • I like this video. Thank you for your sharing. Hope to see next your video.

  • @many9662 Machinima is a big company, not just some guy sitting in his bedroom uploading videos. Retard.

  • Your video is great. Thank you for your sharing.

  • online asian wives #lushfmlk.info#

  • All that armour should of been in the dang game.

  • I don't think video games are art. If they do amount to such, then you're probably thinking about them only in a visual way. Aside from the visual and aural aspects of the game, a video game is highly technological. Parts of it is art and parts of it isn't.

  • @InternetLawman Not true. I understand what you are saying but aside from the visual and aural there is also the storytelling aspect (another art form) and apart from the storytelling aspect there is also the animation; animation is acting (another art form). Now while not all video games implement all these art forms and I kinda agree with you that while video games are highly technological and do not meet all the criteria for being called an art, some although not all, are definitely an art.

  • @PharoahsCorner A very compelling argument, but let's examine a car. High end car manufacturers produce vehicles which can be, and usually are, considered art by many. The car's superficial design is, let's say, brilliant and awe inspiring; in this instance, we, as many others do, admire the creativity and beauty of the car's shape. Do we marvel at it's technological wonder? No, because we cannot see it. And it is so video games are judged to be considered art. What we see is the art.

  • @InternetLawman We do not see the operational mechanisms behind either of their coverings: this is how I consider video games to be art, but not wholly so.

  • @InternetLawman Understood, but I'm thinking the technology under the hood can be viewed as some sort of mechanical art to many but then again im thinking that it would have to put together in an aesthetic fashion. Im just going out on a precarious ledge here so dont pay me much attention. Actually I was surprised u responded. LOL. Well anyway if i was to work on the video game industry most of my contributions would be artistic so thats why I like to think of video games as art.

  • @InternetLawman So I would like to think of video games as art because not many industries except the movie and comic industry have a place for artists that can and like to draw that type of stuff

  • What program/tech is this guy using, its amazing. For all the people that say video games aren't art by all means keep being ignorant and never know the truth.

  • Are you kidding me? I couldn't stand looking at Jack.

  • i fascinated with these armors but i rather want a simple camo shirt and pants,a futuristic bullet-resistant vest/pads to make my Shepard more civilian-militaristic soldier...

  • 2:30

So many armor designs... Some look really good.

Why didnt they just add them in as DLC?

  • This guy... has my dream job...

    But it looks so hard and time consuming. I'm not that great at drawing yet- hell, I can't even draw something like IronMan without making all the metal pieces look like crap and disformed. I suck at making things like that. I wish this guy was my art tutor. xD;;;

  • thumbs up if you hate the new toolbar

  • does being a concept artist require alot of mathematics?

  • @SuPAdUpa132 No it (for the most part) does not require math. But I am sure that there is some a point and time that you do, but that might be for certain types of art. It all about the pencil miles, you just gotta draw draw draw draw :D

  • Why didn't they put all those helmet designs in the game? There's LOADS of drawings there but in the game theres only like ten. Including the simple visors and downloaded stuff.

  • I want this job position so much!

  • @Denolc i do. if i play a game i always think: this is a piece of art. only if its a good one. i always search for concpet art and such

  • look at all the helmets they thrown away!shit

  • Is it possible for me to be a part time concept artist?

  • I have this game.

    Just love it.

  • 200 helmets... Dude where do you get your inspiration? Respect! That is skill! Well done!

  • @Eagle4Delta AGREED!!!! And the helmets all kind of look alike! How the hell does he keeps going without repeating a previously done one after like 50 helmets...!?

  • This game is amazing but it has alot of bugs... i always run into a bug which let me running in the air.. i can not come back to the floor and can not even run ... just stuck in the air >.<

  • omg O_O! why they didnt include more armor/helmets variats :(

  • what do you need to become a concept artist?

  • @SuPAdUpa132 dude if you get an answer let me know.. i really want to be a concept artist too

  • @SuPAdUpa132 you need to create a portfolio with the best of your work, and then just apply to gamedev companies and hope they notice you. well, and you have to be awesome at drawing i guess

  • @SuPAdUpa132 lol draw a lot till you can draw well, you have to spend like every waking moment thinking about art!

  • @Tea42formenyou i always think about art I LOVE IT! :D

  • @SuPAdUpa132 you need to be able to convey a visual representation of a design and/or mood for use in games, comic books etc. While it is necessary to have the skills of a fine artist, you must be able to work to strict deadlines. Interpretation of ideas and how they are realised is one area you'll be judged on, and subject matter is often beyond their control

  • so many helmet designs yet so few actually in game for you to play around with o_O

  • Now that is some amazing creativity and atr skills at work =)

  • Of all of the iterations a helmets, they picked the silliest one for the DeathMask helmet. I wished they had put more of those concept helmets into the game to have more variation other than the N7 open and re-breather variant plus the dumb visor which I could have designed better.

  • @EyeOnTheTV i kind of agree, but then again i just love this game and the first one so much, that i forget about it :D

  • MAKE FEMALE TURIANS AND KROGANS! DAMN IT!

specially female turians,i love asari but i wan to see another female species besides asari, human or quarian(but they dont count since u cant see there face)

  • Is that an Intuos 4 he's using?

  • no, I think it is the cintiq

  • Yeah I guess you're right cause cintiq dubles as a display also, unlike the intuos.

  • I finished Mass Effect 2 on PC (playing on Veteran difficulty, with female shepard, Infiltrator class), and it was AMAZING. Even better than Mass Effect 1. This game is in my top 4 or 5 games ever. It's so good I actually felt emotion while playing it, and that's rare. I've been playing FPS games for 14-15 years, so I'm already desensitized to it.

  • so much artwork in a game and still nobody looks at videogames as an art form!

  • @Denolc youtube needs a " 1000 thumbs up button"

  • @Denolc lol!

I wrote a research paper on that same question!

It made me ace the class too.

  • @Denolc it's sad, but concept artists are so bad ass! I'm striving to be one!

  • @Denolc i do...but i dont count because im an artist myself:D

  • @Denolc Or a form of literature. Some people are thinking of making games a form of literature

  • @Denolc yeah! I agree. So unrecognized. -___-

I tried to do the programming and the art behind the game and it more difficult doing art than programming! Well it was certainly hard to do both at least. lol

  • @Denolc Just because something has art in it doesn't make it an art form.

  • @Denolc Concept art isn't artwork, but design.

  • @olisaoli hell...design can be art...it all depends on how you look at it.

  • @Denolc AGree 100%

  • @Denolc Actually making games has been considered as an art, as the 8th i think

  • @Deepmindandheartlife ART? making games, yes...from the viewpoint of an average person, no.

  • @Denolc not true at all i currently attend full sail for Game art and i generally love art in games it shows all the effort they put int to present a great game

  • @Denolc totally agree my friend!

  • @Denolc people see art as a art form.

  • @Denolc I do i look at each game as i Own as art especially Mass effect

  • wow all those helmets and only 2 made in the game, plus one visor, the 3 other headgear pieces are Dr. Pepper promos, ya you can get em for free now but still, I would have loved to see more options for armor customization

  • the only thing i absolutely HATE in this game is how the weapon range is sooo limited...you can find like 3? new assualt rifles and ect....liiike ok? same assault rifle gets boring...the upgrades are a great idea i love that part but the fact that you cant buy / find new weapons bugs me a bit..

  • Just look at the first one, bro.

20 different variations of one weapon, just with different colors.

  • lmao I don't know what game you've been playing, especially since you call the second's combat "clunky". It surpasses the original in every way.

  • Wow great point. How could I argue with that? I'm sick of the simple gamers out there that have no mind of their own. Sure its a decent time passer but is it worth the 10/10 rating? Will it ever be nominated for Game of the Year? I can't think of one revolutionary thing about it. Not hating on it, just critiquing it. I play it frequently for the record.

  • @jmood88 i agree, but i like the original it's calm in a way, the second is more explosions and destruction, that's not a bad thing, i love the second game but the first one is my fav.

  • @DannySullivanRogers

the subtractions from the game were the bad shooting mechanics of the 1st and cluttered inventory system, things i'm glad were thrown out the window. The new missions both primary and secondary were a vast improvement over the first, I hated how all the old side mission had you crawling through identical buildings with randomly placed boxes. The new side missions all differ greatly you never feel like you did the same job twice. Graphics, story, and combat all better too

  • But the side missions were all to damn simple.

  • i think i know the texture on the left^^

    1:12

  • Damn! He's one hell of an artist! I hope to be that good someday.

Got the game on the opening day. Totally worth it. I mean I thought the main plot could have been longer/more detailed, but all the characters are unique with lots of effort put into their backstories, and I find that I spend a lot of time just lounging around the Normandy to talk to them. xD Not to mention that the shooting's a lot more challenging (though I wished it was less linear).

  • mass effect games have alot of replay value, you never play the same game unless you remember what you did the first run of the game. If you played the first one and did not like it well they thats your opinion don't say the game is gay since ME 1 got so many awards, one of them was best rpg.

  • ME1 was the best game i ever played and im not easily impressed,TRUST me n e 1 who is thinking of buying a game get ME1 then 2 its gonna take u on a journey u will neva forget!

  • @QuantumQuacks no offence but the story of Age of conan is shit which makes for a boring game over all.

  • this is what I want to do for a living. freaking awesome!

  • What a bunch of losers. Making stupid comments as if you actually had a brain. But then again you must have more than the morons who pay a fortune to watch a football game they could never play. The real gamers are those that make thme not the idiots that cannot work it out. Losers.

  • @noobenstein lol if i have no taste why am i playing one of the best 360 games ever right now (me2)

  • @noobenstein then you have no taste in games

or you are youst to stupid to play a rpg

  • @noobenstein lol it got 96 on metacritics thats more than uncharted 2

  • I can't believe I forgot about mass effect 1 all this time. I'm renting it out soon, but I might buy it if its good and has lots of replay value (same for Mass Effect 2. What do you all think? Worth buying or not? Bioshock was great, but hardly had any replay value because it was so linear, and I already picked the best ending (good ending), so I regret buying it. Same with Batman Arkham Asylum.

  • @mostliberal Buy it. Now. I COMMAND YOU =P

  • There's a bunch of 8 out of 10 and 9 out of 10 games that came out within the last year, and none of them were worth buying. IL 2 was shit, Batman has no replay value. Assasins Creed II was great, but I quickly got almost all the collectibles. Forza 3 gets boring after you unlock the high level cars, and Super Mario Bros for Wii was just plain old disappointing (bad level design). Borderlands sucked because it took too many bullets to kill even weak enemies (even head shots take many bullets)

  • Most games just suck now a days. Age of Kings and NWN 1 still do it for me.

  • @mostliberal than your game tastw is shit

  • TROLL

  • I'm not saying its a bad game, I haven't tried it yet, I just don't want to spend 66 dollars again (sales tax is 10% where I live) on games that have absolutely no replay value. Most of the games I got or played in the last few years were only satisfying for a bout a week. GTA, Halo, and the CoD series were an exception though.

  • Have you played the first one

  • No, but I'm renting it soon, since it's going to make such a difference on the save files in the 2nd. The 1st one came out before I got my 360, so I kind of forgot about it. I didn't want to buy a used one for a rip-off price from Gamestop, so now that I got gamefly, I'm renting it.

  • yes do that. try and finish every side mission, dont download mass effect 1 dlc (not worth it).

  • how do you know they don't have a replay factor if you haven't bought it yet?

  • I didn't try it yet, and I'll rent it, but I'm not going to gamble away $66 again. I've done that too many times.

  • I just finished playing the 360 version of Mass Effect 1 (played as female shepard, soldier class), and it was AMAZING! I was really impressed. This game is definitely in my top 20 ever. Also, I just bought Mass Effect 2 for the PC (because its cheaper, better graphics than 360, and the Mouse and Keyboard). I'll get back to you after a while.

  • I did it the other way around , I just can not get behind the mouse and keyboard . Can you use the control with ME 2 on the PC.

  • Maybe with a mod. There's no controller input option in the Menu.

  • Thanks , for the heads up . I am just not a keyboard guy . Heck I even play fallout 3 with a controller .

  • @Joeybsmooth Yah same here. I can't play with a mouse and keyboard; it just doesn't feel right. I like to feel like I'm actually pulling the trigger lol.

  • I like to feel like I'm pulling the trigger too. You'd think bioware would think to allow an xbox 360 controller for the pc version. Maybe they will for ME3?

  • @mostliberal - ME1 is worth buying since it's cheap and it must be played through twice, just to explore both the Paragon & Renegade sides of your character.

  • Don't click here!!!

  • I wonder if Bioware is going to put some d-wad on your ship, begging you to download some DLC like they did in Dragon Age Origins. Talk about money hungry.

  • It always was planned as Trilogy.

They also stated, that there would be a lot more Mass Effect, depending on the people.

  • the game

  • 2:26 Combine From halflife?

  • Yeah, this game is set in the Half life fiction. Hence the aliens and guns.

  • dude what are you talking about?

  • Turns out Gman was a mo fuckin sexy alien the whole time, THE WHOLE TIME.

  • your probably right but still why were you comparing ME to half life?

  • He did an amazing job on the Geth.

  • if you listen carefuly aroundf 4:30 he says mass effect 2 and 3.

that may mean that they are making another mass effect

  • It is a trilogy.

  • they are only just about to release mass effect 2.

and i didnt know they were gonna make it a trilogy

  • yeah that was the plan from the begining to be a trilogy

  • they already said its a trilogy

  • well i didnt know cause i dont l;ook up much mass effect stuff.
