I was nine at the time wanted to be jerry foster so bad use to draw pictures of the helicopter it a hughes 500 now i work at the facilty that the helicopter was built thanks for posting
Anyone here know how I can contact Jerry Foster who flew Sky12 for KPNX in Phoenix? I would like to put together magazine article about him and his work with news helicopters.
Last I heard from Bruce Haffner was that Jerry Foster was still flying for a small private transport service maybe just ask around but after his firing from Channel 3 he dissappeard
Search for "KTAR 1978" and you'll find it. The open used Telesound's "Classical Gas" (which was used by many of the Frank Magid-consulted stations) and the bumpers and extended close featured Mason Williams' original.
Kathy Kerchner...there's a name I haven't heard in the last 20 years. Wow. I grew up in the Phoenix area and am amazed at some of the stuff I have found on Youtube.
This introduction was featured in the 1981 "Media Probes" documentary about local television news (hosted by John Cameron Swayze). The documentary had a segment about Jerry Foster, the KPNX-TV helicopter reporter.
The video of it is no longer on YouTube, but I think KARK had the same exact set and in-show graphics at the time... I think both were also owned by Gannett at the time.
The theme is "it's all right here." I remember this theme from some short human interest spots that ran on WDCN Nashville in the late 80's called "America Today."
Yep, I wouldn't mind being able to find one to post on here. Next time I visit my folks in Nashville I should grab a bunch of old VHS tape from the cabinet, bring it home, and see if I can find anything interesting.
I was at ASU at the time, and this was my dream girl, Kathy Kerchner. What a sweetheart...

Wow, does this bring back memories! We thought this was soooo cool!
Yes, Jerry was our chopper pilot. Vince and Kathy were great to work with. Vince was a great pro and I never wanted to disappoint him.
I remember our directors would try to time the graphics during the close to add on at the beat - though only the third one hits on the beat here.
Still searching for our old open using Mason Williams' Classical Gas. Now that was rockin!

Intros like these bring back pleasant memories of my childhood in the Grand Canyon State. Thank you for being a part of that!

Vince Leonard came to KPNX in 1980, after 22 years with KYW in Philadelphia (at the time he started there, it was still NBC-owned WRCV-TV).
