the original by Franz Schubert was written fpr piano duet (4-hands). This is a SOLO Concert Transcription by Carl Tausig. This arrangement is only 2 hands. Get a grip on reailty before you make insulting comments about other's people's mothers!
It is "Allegro vivace" as written on the sheet music. Unlike Schubert's original, Tausig's transcription starts out pianissimo(pp) and leggiero(broken legato).
I have an explanation of every measure of Tausig's composition I found in a 1930's Etude, along with the music...the explanation includes all the different portions of the piece and the band instruments depicted as they approach. The reason it starts so quietly is that the idea was to deptict a parade approaching from the distance, from the time you first begin to hear the band to the time when it is right in front of you...
I can't thank you enough for posting this rendition...
i never claimed i was. but who among pianists, world class or not, can right now play this better? who can say "I AM BETTER THAN VLADIMIR HOROWITZ"? it is not a shame to admit someone is better. it is a shame not to try to best him, even if you might never make it.
Horowitz was a great player of marches.

Incredible. There is no one like Vladimir Horowitz. What a master.

It's truly the "Military March" with strong orchestra color.

This is Tausig's transcription, but Horowitz added some things to the ending. I wish there was a transcription of Horowitz's transcription! lol

El final de esta versión no es correcta; en cambio sí lo es en la versión del pianista earl wild.

his hands are very large so they could reach all the notes

It is amazingly fun to play this with 6 hands. Everyone bumping and tyring to stretch to get to your notes. Good times.

"Simple Horowitz" sums up this invigorating piece well. Thank you for uploading it.

When the middle part stars, he plays so legato with almost no pedal, it's unbelievable!

It isn't a cirque's marche but a military march, otherwise this rithm is correct : - )

one of his most masterful recordings - showing us that intensity comes from focus and color, not from mere speed and noise.
