Had one bigger jump out a tree stump at me wile leaf blowing my yard bout a foot longer I bout shit my pants ran like a lil girl to my house to get the shot gun came back couldn't find it no where so its still alive and growing
"Pits", "triangular head", "banding pattern", etc......yes, they are all ways of telling it's a cottonmouth. However, coming from someone who works daily in the rice paddies of southern Arkansas...I've found there's an easier way. They rarely try to get away [escape] like other snakes. They just sit there and stare intently at you, even as you approach and they have a way to safely leave. Other snakes will flee if possible, cottonmouths stand their ground. Look at the vid as the guy approaches..
To all the dumb asses saying its not a cotton mouth or a water snake um the clues that it is is that when it opens it's mouth that's obvious and the coloring and when it uses it's tell like a rattlesnake do some research
Ok for all you dumb asses that keep saying it's not a cotton mouth well it's a dead give away when it opens it's mouth the coloring and it uses it's tell much like a rattle snake
@BROPHYx896 Nice try? I'll let you decide if you want to take your comment down after you do some research. I am a naturalist who has encountered hundreds upon hundreds of moccasin in the wild and have seen plenty of banded water snakes, also. In fact, I have some footage on other videos of banded watersnakes. For anyone who comes across this video and wonders if this guy knows what he's talking about... well, trust me, this snake packs a punch of venom.
@BROPHYx896 No dude thats a moccasin. Its a pit viper that is venomous and I can see the heat sensing pit at 1:33. Trust me I have property near the swamp in FL and have seen and killed several moccasins.
@BROPHYx896 Your stupid its obviously a cottonmouth. See the head shape and the band across the eye? clear details the prove its a cottonmouth. The bands? Cottonmouths are banded from early to mid life. Also too wide for a bandy. get your facts straight before you go and say things that make you look dumb. Your just embarrasing yourself.
@BROPHYx896 You can tell it's a water moccasin by the shape of the head. Water snakes will have an oval shaped head and a thinner body while Cotton Mouth have an arrow shaped head with a fat body. This is definitely a cottonmouth :)
@BROPHYx896 dude, i highly recommend that you educate yourself about snakes, because just as i am certain that the sun will rise tomorrow, i am just as certain that is a cottonmouth, and it will gladly ruin your day
@BROPHYx896 Clearly has that trademark viper head, Can see the pits if you pause it, and has that bright white mouth (how it got its name). You should take a closer look before making this assumption.
Nope. I've actually transported over 10 pygmy rattlesnakes from my yard to deep in the woods. I tend to look at Nature in that way. Hope the enjoyed the video, though. I've got a new one with footage from a recent skin diving trip on the panhandle.

To Brophy, you're an idiot. The snake has 2 FANGS...... Water snakes are non venomous and do not have fangs.....they have teeth.

Sad but true. A lot to be said for snakes. If it wasn't for cobras India would be overrun by rats. What would you prefer?

The only way I would film a cottonmouth is when the camera is attached to a 10 ft pole. I cant believe you got that close to it.

I've never seen them shake their tails like that. Kinda like a rattler. Neat! Hope your camera's O.K.
