I'm thrilled with this video, because Ricciarelli is one of my very favorite sopranos. Years ago, in the Zeffireli film of

Otello (with Domingo,) I thought Katia as Desdemona was an actress mouthing the part. She couldn't be THAT beautiful AND sing.

I was happily surprised that she was

indeed singing. Magnificent duet. What

What a terrible tragedy & loss to the opera worls that this great voice was stilled at age 37!!! I understand that he was preparing to sing dramatic tenor roles, including Otello!!! Mr. Bernardi planned to sing tenor repertory until his late 40's, whereupon he was to have switched to baritone!

E'una registrazione del '71? Che meraviglia! La più "antica" della Ricciarelli, almeno per ora... Una voce pura, soave, elegiaca... ahimé Giuliano Bernardi non lo conoscevo fino ad oggi, una bella voce adatta a questo ruolo... se è il concorso per voci verdiane, non potevano che vincere loro due! Bravissimi!

se non sbaglio questa registrazione filmata è stata realizzata nell'occasione del concorso voci verdiane del 1971 (poco dopo), vinta appunto da Bernardi e dalla Ricciarelli, che aveva già vinto altri concorsi (enalc) sotto il nome di Katiuscia R.
