@Kjellarnek I think this guy is applauding the keyboard solo - I know I would have. Although I would have just been continually applauding at this gig..

I just do not agree. Sorry my friend My opinion still stands.
Ok brownhornet59 I have 40 years of playing for a living Music is not just about tech We use to call over techky players NO BALLS Music is about style and saleability Stern has a style and so do the others you mention So does Jeff What crendentials do you put forward to give you the right to judge What have you done Can I get your greatest hit Album. And Jeff is A Rock Based player What is your problem Tech is great Style is the groove And getting paid is good too PROS DON"T SLAG
Stern couldn't do this and probably none of your Jazz guys could Jeff can't do do the sweet sounding stuff they do that doesn't make him a hack nor them there are many types of guitarists don't be so judgemental
@CJTELE Sorry bro. Obviously you don't know to much about technique or theory. Jeff is by no means technical and his theory is very infantile compared to any of the gent's I mentioned earlier. He might scratch the surface of melodic minor now and then but his use and inflection of pentatonics is very straight ahead from the Rock world. Jeff will tell you himself that he is a auto mechanic that plays music to fund his real dream. As for Mike Stern, you really don't have a clue do you?
@brwnhornet59 that is true to a piont, but sometimes its nice to here 4 or 5 sweet notes, where allthe guys you have mentioned have to play 1000 just to get your attention and bore us to death, so it says alot to all the auto mechanics out there, meaning technice and theory don"t apply, if it sounds good and fills stadiums
@vox1003 It's all good. My issue is categorizing Jeff as a Jazz musician. Any of the cats playing with him are, but Jeff is simply an old rocker. As rockers go I am more of a Page, Howe or Morse and Lukather fan. But Jeff paid his dues, more power to rocking mechanics.
@brwnhornet59 Jeff has always surrounded himself with incredible jazz guys and girls, and yes he is more of an old school rocker than a traditional jazz guy, and he seems to pull it off with his style and phrazing> Probably my fav guitarist is Steve Morse, seen him play 11 times, met him once, very tiny guy, 5,2". he can play anything extremely well, country, jazz, rock, classical, fusion, did I leave anything out ha ha
@vox1003 If you think they can actually play Jazz in the traditional sense then that tells me how little about music you know. They are rock musicians all of them, excellent yes but Jazz musicians they are not.
@vox1003 I think you're mentally challenge. You read what you want and discard whatever doesn't suit your opinion. I never said they weren't excellent musicians. I stated they are not Jazz Musicians got it. Your problem is you don't know what Jazz is. So let me help you. Type in "McCoy Tyner-Moments Notice (2002). These are Jazz Musicians and none of them would hire any of these guys for a gig. Check out the Drummer Eric Harland and you'll hear what a "Real Drummer" is supposed to sound like.
@vox1003 You must have done the search and found the McCoy Tyner link LoL. That put an end to that Bullshit about these guys being Jazz Musicians. Yeah when you heard Eric Harland on drums you then heard what a Real Drummer sounds like along with Real Jazz Musicians and it was over. About not being able to afford them we're talking the "Art of Music" not the business. You arguement has been put to rest now you want change subjects. Again they are excellent musicians, not Jazz Musicians. Got It!
@CHC4669 Jeff Beck has never considered himself to be a real jazz guitarist (he'd agree with you totally)... besides, what he's doing here at Ronnie Scott's is way too melodic, musical and in order to be jazz. It's not Jazz... it's Jeff Beck.
@yellingelk Listen I go back with Jeff Beck to 1972 Jeff Beck Group album with Ice cream cakes so no one can tell me about Jeff I love his music. Your comment "way to melodic, musical and in order to be jazz" is a feeble attempt to be sarcastic and to put down jazz music. No music is more Melodic, Rythmic, Harmonically or Technically complex then Jazz Music and requires the Highest Musicianship to play period. I'm sure Jeff Beck will tell you that and yes you're right he's not a Jazz guitarist.
@CHC4669 Here we go... What's the difference between Rock and Jazz? In Jazz, you can play 30,000 different chords to 3 people... in Rock, you can play 3 chords to 30,000 different people.
@CHC4669 Hey be careful There are concert pianists out there Violin virtuosos Classical guitarists and many more musical genius types and don't forget the many types of Jazz I love Jazz but it is not for everyone The listening demands are not always compatible with people Jazz lovers can get too snobby at times and forget about other musical Art forms Like whos better Bill Evans or Glen Gould, Igor Stravinsky or Duke Ellington
@CHC4669 primarily? no. but in actuality? yes. jeff beck often plays some standards and vinnie colaiuta often plays with herbie hancock and chick corea. if i could classify scatterbrain it would be jazz fusion.
This guy has always been nothing more than a hack. His talent is very limited. He does not hold a candle anywhere near to Gambale, Holdsworth, Henderson, Stern, Lane, Govan etc....
Maybe Santana would be jealous of him but that's about it.
@TMUSICIAN Sorry Bro, Holdsworth, Gambale, Stern and Henderson were influenced mainly by, as myself and anyone else that plays jazz seriously, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. Shawn and Guthrie came out of the Rock world and could have had fleeting encounters with Jeff. Shawn was into world beat jazz/ragga ala John Mcglaughlin and Shakti the last 5 years of his life. Only time will tell what Guthrie does. Peace!
@brwnhornet59 I heard manytimes Henderson talking about his Beck's influences... And it is very clear, in his whammy bar techniques. What you are trying to do is like comparing "Blackmore with Yngwie".. same thing. Of course Blackmore doesn't hold a candle anywhere near to Yngwie, technically saying, but this last one would be NOTHING without his guru. I wonder what those guys you listed would say about Jeff Beck if you asked them.
@TMUSICIAN Your point is valid. I have no argument, just an opinion. When God like status if granted to someone who in their own words, plays as a hobby for the money to fund their real love, I speak up. Jeff has been around for many years and has paid his dues as a performer, but a jazz guru? I can't buy that. Has Jeff influenced many? I am sure, like Chuck Berry influenced many greater players. Does this make him a Rock guru on guitar? If so, my definition of guru is different.
@brwnhornet59 Im not saying Jeff is a JAZZ guru, he is more to fusion/rock. This discussion have nothing to do with Jazz, at least for me. Because your first comment doenst have any word about "jazz", it was just a comparison of musicians. Cheers, dude.
@TMUSICIAN Fusion is a genre of Jazz. My initial statements included the players that personify the who's who of today's fusion. So to me this was implicit. I should have been clearer on that, though I felt it went without saying. When Miles started the fusion movement he incorporated musicians like John Mcglaughlin, Herbbie Hancock and Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett etc. These guys were the water mark that set the standards for the genre from then on. Tommy Bolin and Jeff tried but never reached it
@Rotwatcher Justin Bieber? This is a fusion band. Why would you compare some retard boy band singer that cant play anything but his skin flute, to a fusion guitarist? No singing? Yeah, that is what fusion/Jazz is. If you want to listen to real musicians play look at the names I wrote in my other post. At least then you will see people that represent the art.
@brwnhornet59 Nah, you misunderstand my attempt at sarcasm. I assumed that someone like @slabo038 was a Bieber fan, owing to the word "retard". I'm an enormous fan of Beck, and have been since "Blow By Blow" was released.
Reading the comments someone said The girl didn't pay her dues Jason Vinnie and Jeff seem to think she's pretty good Vinnie is a natural wonder Jason is a Keyboard player nothing short of outstanding Jeff is a legend Tal is a Prodigy Together they cook.
One of the few older guitarists with a modern setup, Modern tuners, and modern two-point tremolo. and it sounds amazing! Proves it's not necessary to have a vintage guitar to sound great! Besides, the old vintage 6 point bridges wouldn't even be able to withstand such harsh tremolo abuse!
@stereoview Yes, obviously because I make a statement about someone that automatically makes me no one. Everyone on YouTube is a no one except for the commercial partners so don't be a bitch and apply being a no one to just me. I never said he was a bad drummer, he's a great drummer from what I've heard.
@drummerdo0od You probably never heard of Vinnie because you only just managed to get your head out of your ass and havent yet had time to clean the shit out of your ears.
@drummerdo0od Your the guy whose never heard of one of the best drummers in the last thirty odd years, now that's ignorance! ( Lack of knowledge.) Sorry, I made a mistake, that head of yours is still waiting for extraction
@2Frasermac He was probably more famous back then like John Bonham. But the best drummers today are like Joey Jordison, Chris Adler, and Mike Portnoy. I'm not a fucking retard I know what ignorance is. Just because I've never heard of ONE drummer that doesn't make me ignorant. Jesus, calm down.
@garyrdavies go to google and type in ad blocker for whatever internet you use...internet explorer or firefox, it blocks all advertisements for everything online
Ive listened to this version, and the album version (along with many different versions) and I just want to know how mister Jeff Beck got from that slow fusion groove to this jazzy rock song? ??? Help! Hah
I try to get to Ronnie's whenever I'm in London. Great place for Jazz and Rock - but don't eat the food, as Ronnie once said to the roomful of diners. I chose this performance because of the large number of notes and the fact that Jeff Beck was born in Wallington, where they have recently put in a new bus stop.
Back in the day people came to Ronnie scotts and they got excited about music. I think people now are just so apathetic. they have too many of their own problems to deal they just don't care. The music is still good though. Lame ass yuppies!
Jeff has the ability on the guitar to can often cause people to loose bladder control when listening to him play guitar! The drummer is amazing as well!

@2Frasermac Didn't you read my other comment about Vinnie? Or are just that ignorant that you are set off with one comment?
drummerdo0od 6 months ago
@drummerdo0od Your the guy whose never heard of one of the best drummers in the last thirty odd years, now that's ignorance! ( Lack of knowledge.) Sorry, I made a mistake, that head of yours is still waiting for extraction
2Frasermac 6 months ago
@2Frasermac He was probably more famous back then like John Bonham. But the best drummers today are like Joey Jordison, Chris Adler, and Mike Portnoy. I'm not a fucking retard I know what ignorance is. Just because I've never heard of ONE drummer that doesn't make me ignorant. Jesus, calm down.
