@WickedTornado oops...disregard that post about "black eyed people". I was trying to search YouTube for those "black-eyed children" who have a paranormal connection. I accidently posted in the wrong space.
Thanks for clarifying, Matt. One thing I would be certain about, in my humble opinion...is that the long-lived EF-2 you're referring to in Northern California last year...it's longevity on the ground had 0 % to do with the outbreak all the way across the USA in the east. Absolutely zero. Now, if the jet stream was directly over the area of your tornado, AND over the east at the same time, both areas can have powerful storms which in turn can produce tornadoes. Oh, ps.... intell=UNTIL
last year was the most active tornado season in Northen CA in our states history its started in September 2010 and it keep going intell July 2011. at lest 1 tornado was reported or Dopper Radar was detecting it. it wasn't staying in winter or spring. but the most active time is late may early June. we think the outbreak in the east had something to do with our active area.but the 70 minute one set a record for the longist ground tornado in C.A.
@spaghettidinner I wasn't in full auto mode but I'm pretty sure I was in auto focus and auto iris mode. I don't remember exactly but my EX1 is typically set at -3 gain, I use a card for white balancing, audio was auto with the built-in mic. It was a run and gun situation. I don't like 'full auto' because then the white balance can change as you're shooting and it sometimes kicks the gain up to levels I find too noisy.
@GabeandGarrett Totally agree. Never liked the full auto mode either for high gain, very small apertures and constantly changing white balance like you said. I just thought it looked very good and thought if this was "full auto" then I'd be impressed at its consistency. Thanks for the reply!
@WickedTornado Thank you, WickedTornado! I love experiencing new things with my boys... if we really did see a tornado I would've kept a great distance but it's all about the thrill of seeking them!
@tornadomatt1 Hi Matt, I've chased the midwest for a month every spring and live in Tucson. Just curious, when you say you track 3-6 naders annually, do you mean the tornadic cells? Cells with TVS's, or long lived mesos or what? Also, "mini-allys" or areas within the alley that tend to get more naders more often than other areas...do you have a "mini-alley" within your CWA? Are your tornadoes the result of cold-core lows usually? Thanks for answering all these! Joel
@WickedTornado we track 3 to 6 tuchdowns. we get 8 to 10 long lived mesos and 10 to 20 tvs. records state North Cali. have mini-alley that zoned Chico CA south to Stockton Ca in the Sacramento villy but in our covrige zone last year we tracked 9 comformed tornadoes. one was an ef2 and was on the ground for a hour and ten minutes.
@tornadomatt1 Thanks for the info, Matt.....that's quite active. A 70 minute tornado...that's impressive. Is this area, aside from major towns, sparsely populated...to the point that more of these actually happen but don't get seen? Or, even if spotted...not reported? And lastly...is your tornado season primarily the winter? Here in So. Ariz, your storms track over us 24-48hrs. later, giving us tornadoes Feb - March. We also have a tornado season at the end of Monsoon, Sept-Oct.
@tornadomatt1 "the post is to you, WickedTornado"....I'm confused...I don't think I said anything that would indicated that I was unsure about your last post to me.
I did write you back about 14 hours ago....asking a few more questions, however.
@WickedTornado here it is sorry about the confusen. last year was the most active tornado season in Northen CA. in our states history its started in september 2010 and it keep going intell july 2011. at lest 1 tornado was reported or dopper radar was detecting it in that time area . the most active is in may and june but the ef2 was a record for the longest cloud to ground tornado in Northen CA. we think it had something do with the outbreak east.

Hey great video! Thinking about getting an EX1. Did you shoot this in full-auto? Or what were your settings? Thanks!
