  • im singing this song in my grade 6 singing and i am so honoured because it is one amazing song!!

  • How does she sing with such a tight corset?

  • boyfriend just broke up with me=me listening to this song

  • 3:41

  • I love this song! I can't wait until I actually preform the play in February! (At my school. IT'S STILL SO FUN!)

  • I forgot how great this play was!

  • Before you judge Mr. Hammerstein's (that's Mister to most of us) work, read the whole piece. You might get a poet' insight. Mister Hammerstein was, first, last, and always a Poet.

  • Brilliant song, both musically and lyrically- and what a voice Shirley had! Whenever I use a pelicon crossing (I live in UK) and the red man appears (don't cross) I always think of Oklahoma! since the name means "red man" in Choctaw. Am I daft?

  • How do they sing in those corsets?!

  • @WhitneyScarlett1 Haha really! I can't imagine wearing a corset let alone singing in one!

  • @Msoperagirl2011 Oh, corsets aren't too bad.

  • TRILINGUAL, I THINK YOU SHOULD GROW UP OR TRY A WOMAN FOR A FRIEND. K.J.

  • My friend broke up with her boyfriend yesterday,

I sent her this link, she'd been crying....

She cant stop singing it now:L

  • Shirley is SO pretty!

  • were singing many a new day

  • i was the only person in my 8th grade music class who liked this movie

  • +1 all girl underwear party

  • OMG. I HAVE TO LEARN THIS SONG AND PERFORM IT IN FRONT OF MY CLASS IN 2 1/2 WEEKS! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

  • free button to start the song: 1:46

  • She should scrub her neck I can see a tide mark.

  • lol i need to finish this movie

  • hey partridge family mom!

  • You shouldn't have edited out the dancing.

  • She finds empowerment in buying a new dress, scrubbing her neck and brushing her hair??

  • Lyric correction:

A weepin' an' a wailin'* how he's done her wrong

  • Where is Laurie's best friend? You know the one who will always take care of a body for you? Or make sure a certain redhead eats it in the mud?

  • I wish I could wear those clothes!

  • lol the first time i heard that laugh i didn't whether to get upset or laugh! lol thanks for posting :D

  • In reality women left and went west so that they wouldn't have to deal with *cough society's morales. Divorce was actually higher in the west than where else in the united states about 1 in 8. And only was it in the west where women could own property as long as they weren't married.

  • I sing this after I break up with a guy or it goes south. It's a very cleansing tradition!! (Plus, I've gotten really good at singing it)

  • @trilingual28 Haha! I like that! I might just have to steal your tradition. =)

  • @DorisDayFanatic Steal away :-) I'm flattered!

  • Oklahoma looks a lot like Colorado's front range. Wonder where it was shot.

  • @jmw102667 It was shot in Arizona.

  • Who cares if a man hurts you anyway. :P Many a new face will please my eye! ;)

  • Shirley Jones simply has the purest and most beautiful voice. :)

  • You can tell a musical is timeless when you can still relate to the lyrics and feel like singing this song because it just relates to you.

  • This is Priceless

    Thank you

  • My School did This Musical :DD Yay ! LMFAo, iSaw it three Times ;)

  • As a man who still tries to be a gentleman, and has been considered wierd and a loser for being one, primarily by women. I take offense that you say there are no Gentlemen in this world left. I respect your opinion to say it, and I'm sure you are right that men like that are a rarity. but to make broad generlizations of men and women is why we are in this problem, so don't judge and if you do please do so on a person to person basis. Thank you and enjoy your day.

  • I haven't heard this for about 50 years - I had forgotten what a lovely voice Shirley Jones has! Thanks for posting!

  • I love this so much, but I think it is also hilariously narm-y! Why are they all suddenly undressed? :)

  • Lyrics like these will never be equalled in quality. Odd break at 3:42, though.

  • @madamerotten I think the dance sequence was skipped...

  • Never, by any means, put Gertie and Janice from FRIENDS in the same room.

  • @UraniasDaughter LOL oh, together they could break ear drums.. ouch.

  • ummm... why did you cut out all the dancing?

  • NAMASTE THANK YOU

  • Stop glorifying the old days, people! There was more bad about those times than good (which is exactly why it's not like that anymore!). This time we live in is the best time there's ever been, and not least because nowadays we are all not bound by force of conformity but free to observe the past and pick and choose the best of it to fit into our modern lives!

  • @flymurdererfly Yeah, things are so much better now, especially music and the movies. For example, Lady Gaga is far more talented than Shirley Jones, and a lot classier.

  • @Hijodelaisla Right, THAT'S what I must have meant, not for instance legislation that includes human rights for all people, increased life span of don't even know how many years, a general attitude that makes tolerance a norm in society...

Although surely, back in the day, women just loved being reduced to ornaments and wouldn't have chosen otherwise if they could and yeah, minorities never needed any rights anyway and of course, there weren't any gays back then, so no problem there...

  • @flymurdererfly Oh, sorry, I was just talking about the quality of cultural media. I have, however, observed a decline in many aspects of the quality of life, human rights legislation notwithstanding.

  • @Hijodelaisla That's ok :) I like 50's escapism too (that's why I'm here, after all). But with the two highest rated comments both glorifying "the days" I felt it might be useful to point out that we also have a lot to be grateful for :)

  • @Hijodelaisla Lady Gaga being more talented than Shirley Jones? I don't know about that; wouldn't go THAT far! Shirley Jones is the class act, who can sure sing! I would like to hear Lady Gaga try to sing like her! Ha!

  • Love this scene so much...I'm auditioning for Oklahoma today!! This is the audition song....wish me luck! :)

  • Shirley Jones was just absolutely beautiful. And her voice.... incredible. What a talent!

  • @Xine914 - She was and is lovely!

  • At about 3:42 the word "sigh" and it's accompanying note are cut out for some reason.

  • women without a fag in their hand ? cant be darlington .

  • I love the way they used to dress!

  • love 1:48

  • great song!

  • I know what you mean. And the women now smoke and work and they vote to. How sad for SlaveToTheTheater

  • @107Ryebread

and women mostly don't die in childbirth anymore, things are getting seriously out of hand.

  • @107Ryebread You completely missed the point of my comment. As a woman, I just think it's sad that so many women are trashy, rude, and vulgar. And it's sad more so that it's becoming more and more accepted.

  • What a Voice What a Song

    What a Great Movie.

    Now DVD

  • lovely

  • That rude girl that pushes her head in the way so she can vainly look in the mirror irritates me.

  • My grandpa was a senior in the same high school as Shirley Jones when she was a freshman

  • @PengWinOne Awesome.

  • A 1955 musical film. A treasure.

  • I like this song... the girl singing is awesome...

  • Comment removed

  • oh, Girdy... *cringe*

  • @katelovesmark I can do the laugh and I'm a guy :P

  • 3:40-3:44 ??

  • The days where women had curves and it wasn't considered a bad thing.

  • @ginerzinwonderland Yeah and if they didn't have curves they had to force their bodies into painful corsets to make it look like they did. Aaah the good old days.

  • @ginerzinwonderland

this is your reply to a song where part of the choreography is pulling on a corset.....

  • @ginerzinwonderland Amen there brother!

  • @ginerzinwonderland - They only have curves because of whale-bone.

  • @ginerzinwonderland They're all wearing corsets.

  • @ginerzinwonderland that is what corsets were there for duh!

  • @ginerzinwonderland Are you daft? They're all sixe 4's with size 0 waists. They only have curves because they're wearing corsets.

  • @Veektoereeah Didn't see this before I bitched. lol Thanks...dunno how that guy got so many thumbs up.

  • @ginerzinwonderland these women have curves??

  • @ginerzinwonderland so long as she still had a waist under 25 inches. Seriously, they may be curvy, but they are all tiny.

  • @ginerzinwonderland You mean the days when all women wore corsets? lol

  • Please Please put the full clip on its fantastic

  • Please Please put the full clip on its fantastic

  • when women were women class and style

  • The whole ballet is missing!

  • @NoMoreMrNiceGuyNYC i know! i wanted to see that!

  • ahhhh she took it down the octave at 5:06

  • @gadget7734 She sings it correctly; there is no octave down.

  • Missing data at 3:42.

  • this song is actually a huge comfort to me right now! love shirley she's fantastic.

  • oh look, its Rizo from grease!

    Laureys friend....

    weird

  • @DieHardHPfan If you mean Stockard Channing (Rizzo from the movie Grease), she's not in Oklahoma!. She was only 10 years old when this movie was made.

  • I appreciate that you took the time to post this video, but the cuts are very disappointing.

  • This song (along with "Out of My Dreams) are my favorites from this Rogers & Hammerstein classic. 10+ stars!

  • I wonder how many different annoying laughs they rehearsed before they came up with this one...

  • is this the one with hugh jackman?

  • no this was done in 1955

  • no its the one with Gordon Macrae

  • I LOVE IT,but it's very long.Ah well!

  • What do you have, ADD? Geeze.

  • Can you say, "Gonna Wash That Man Right Out Of My Hair" in South Pacific? Oh, Rodgers and Hammerstein...

  • @AqeelaNhiva haha too true

  • Isn't she slightly off key (sharp) at 4:31-4:34 ?

  • It's a shame that so much of Agnes DeMille's choreography was cut out of this. It was created for this sequence and not in the stage play until after the movie came out. She based it on 19th century ballet, which most young ladies of any breeding would have studied to perfect their posture and movement.

  • I didn't know it was based on a ballet. That's awesome! but I agree. I hate that it was cut from the clip

  • i was laury in oklahoma and it was ahmazing!!!!!!!

  • i did this in a play

  • i'm doing this song for a solo contest :)

  • I love this! Thank you.

  • that wonams laugh is so anoyin :@ but its a good song :) x

  • thanks so much for this video and lyrics

  • I love this scene .

  • TRUE ! =D nice one !!

  • Ahh...the days when most people still had class and morals...would loved to have been there for that.

  • @mayafge yeah, but they also got put down simply because they were women....anything before women's rights act was pretty much the "i am man, hear me roar, bend to my will woman" schpeel...

  • Shirley Jones is the mother in the Partridge Family. I'm having trouble not looking at her as this 70s pop singer now. D:

  • Ado Annie wasn't haven't sex with the men. She was a flirt, she would pet and allow them to kiss her but 'Cain't Say No' was a lot more innocent than it would be today. She wanted attention and couldn't stop flirting with everyone, but she wasn't doing any more than that. Will Parker went to a burlesque show, woman probably stripped down to corset and chemise. And Laurey was thinking about how her life would be with Jud, abusive and scary.

  • This was my favorite part of the movie growing up...me and my best friends used to dance around like the girls...I always wish to be able to wear petty coats!

  • well just upload as much as u can like the same way u uploaded this vid

  • do u have the full movie if u do can u plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz add it to youtube

  • you can get it from Amazon.

  • I HAVE IT BUT SORRY i DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ADD IT TO YOUTUBE, BUT I AGREE WITH YOU IT IS ONE OF THE GOOD ONES.

  • The girl on her right (Left part of the screen) is in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers...I think? Can someone validate that?

  • Yes, it's Nancy Kilgas, and she played the character of Alice Elcott in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Good eye!

  • @lazybones2000 I love these classic movies

  • Sehr schönes Lied :-) und genau meine Einstellung!

  • Why aren't more women like this? Seriously, average women are so not charming, polite, or proper anymore. It's really rather sad.

  • Because average men are so not sweet, chivilrous, or respectful anymore. and that's really rather sad

  • @SlaveToTheTheater it is becuase feminism to the highest degree has taken place, that's why. and no one is brave enough to admit it.

  • @SlaveToTheTheater - Goes for the menfolk, too.

  • @SlaveToTheTheater I know, right? I totally agree---it is sad. People these days are so ignorant and improper. and I'm serious, I hate how people have evolved since then. It's upsetting. And the worst part is people classify the people who act classy and not like total idiots as "weird" or "a loser". its horrible.

  • @SlaveToTheTheater And men aren't gentlemen either... :(

  • @SlaveToTheTheater There are still nice women out there. We polite ones are now a rarity and unheard of, now. I have to say the same thing about men. What happened to all the gentlemen out there? No wonder I've stayed single.

  • @SlaveToTheTheater And exactly what do you mean by proper? Geez, that's such a typical manner by which to characterize women. Average men certainly aren't gentlemanly or polite anymore.

  • When men were men...and women were visions...

  • amen dude amen this is when movies were innocent

  • so? none of it's shown. annie isn't sleeping with anyone, either...women weren't really treated equally back then, so she kinda has to show off to get that equal attention. hell she probably doesn't know the first thing about sex. and it's Jud...and he gets killed cause of it....

  • is there a place that i can find it? the whole movie?

I cant find it in the stores!!

  • Amazon!

  • you can order it at places like best buy and borders

  • What a perfectly marvelous voice! The whole sequence is terrific.

  • this is a beyootiful song im singing it for my singing lessons

  • omg that girls laugh is just WEIRD!!

  • Notice the weird elbow dancing in this song?... lol!

  • Im doing oklahoma in my School play:)

  • me too :)

  • Shirley Jones, is just soooo beautiful, and soooo talented

  • I wanna be like her when I grow up!

  • im sure this was pointed out alot of the music sounds familiar withthe sound of music prob cause rogers and Hammerstein wrote it?

  • Curly "I know I heedyaa" 0:12

    real cute huh?

  • That was just a funny horse laugh to make the movie more cowboy like.

Isnt she adorable that woman Shirley Jones? when she sings many a new day. Just look at the move in her eyes, wow.

  • that girl with the crazy laugh is sooo annoying!

  • sounds painful

  • huh?

  • what sounds painful? you mean that girl's laugh? if you mean her laugh then yes i agree. :D

  • that's the whole point of her laugh

  • i know but it is still annoying :D

  • true true!

  • I want to hear and see Susan Boyle sing "Many a New Day" I'D bet She'd do a great job.

  • this is my favorite song in this musical

  • love the laugh :L

my mum just played that part and it took her awile to get a laugh

  • im in this play..ha-cool song..

  • you cut the best dancing part!

  • LOVE this song and the way Shirley Jones sings! She was just perfect! THANKS Rodgers & Hammerstein! 10+ stars.
