The reason 90% of blacks vote for the Democrats is the same reason blacks commit crime way out of proportion to their population: there is a problem with morality in the black comminity. Considering the state of Black America and its relationship with a treasonous elected black leadership by and large affiliated with the Democratic Party, the exception being no good U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, the U.S. born descendant of slave community is long overdue for a "Tea Party" rebellion to boot out elected officials who have contempt for our Constitutional rights.

The Dems cleaned up their act and atoned for the past, and the worst Southern racists, such as Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond, promptly became Republicans. The GOP then formulated its Southern Strategy to persuade racist whites to vote Republican. In a generation the South went from Blue to Red, where it remains. To this day, the GOP has not owned up to its race-baiting.
The worst southern racists joined a new party called the American Independent Party(completely different from the New American Independent Party).
Ken Mehlman did apologize for the Southern strategy which was not race-baiting. It was a campaign to encourage the south to vote Republican for reasons that were economic and religious. Forced busing was wrong because of 2 hour commutes and students having to pay taxes to schools they could not attend, though Atwater attracted racists.

MLKII couldn't bring himself to vote for Goldwater because he was backed by racists, though Goldwater tried to distance himself from these racists as much as possible. MLKI had been a lifelong Republican who voted for Richard Nixon. Eventually, he became a Democrat because he liked Jimmy Carter, but he was still a conservative democrat until his death in 1984.

MLKII may have voted for Nixon or Kennedy. He initially backed Nixon, but Kennedy called Coretta and expressed sympathies about her husband was jailed for sitting-in and implied he'd have him released by executive order so it's possible he backed Kennedy.
The King Encyclopedia at Stanford is my source. King wrote to Nixon about ‘‘how deeply grateful all people of goodwill are to you for your assiduous labor and dauntless courage in seeking to make the civil rights bill a reality’’ (Papers 4:264)
He didn't back any party, but he backed individual candidates from any party that he felt would be effective at engendering civil rights.

I never said that about King Jr. King Jr. likely didn't have loyalty to the GOP or any political institution because parties were rapidly realigning then. King Jr. would not have likely written such praiseworthy accolades to a candidate he didn't back. Otherwise, he would have written Stevenson/Kefauver something even more impressive. Nixon and Eisenhower came off as less warlike than Kennedy and more committed to civil rights than Stevenson.

Yes, that autobiography was written after King was moved by Kennedy's call to Coretta. King Jr.'s autobiography wasn't released until 1998 after substantial editing. It doesn't read like he wrote it to Kennedy directly.

The reason 90% of blacks vote for the Democrats is the same reason blacks commit crime way out of proportion to their population: there is a problem with morality in the black comminity. President Barack Obama wants to raise taxes on everybody who works to take from those who have earned it, to give to freeloaders, public unions, unethical individuals, and illegal aliens.
So glad there are checks and balances (U.S. Congress, U.S. Supreme Court, the will of the People) and that the U.S. is not a dictatorship!

The Civil Rights Act was passed with a greater percentage of Republicans voting for it than Democrats. 80% of Republicans supported it, and only 65% of Democrats supported it.

what's terrible about us, Black folk, is that we ARE conservative. We are not liberal, and never have been. Through trickery and some grandiose legislation the Democrats, who formed the KKK, who were against interracial marriage, who formulated Jim Crow laws to keep Black folk from voting, switched their strategy and courted Black votes.
Blacks were Republican from the beginning of the party all the way till Kennedy.

here's a list of states that have closed/semi-closed primaries -that means unless you are a registered Republican ,you will NOT be able to vote for Ron Paul in the critical primary election. If you live in Az,Ct, DE,FL,KY,MD,MA,NY,OK,OR,SD,Ut,or West Va , get to the local election office and switch to Republican - I'd hate to see you not be able to vote Ron Paul in the primary where it counts most ! Democratic President LBJ signed Civil Rights into law in 1964 with a super-majority of Democrats in the Senate (63). The Dems cleaned up their act and atoned for the past, and the worst Southern racists, such as Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond, promptly became Republicans. The GOP then formulated its Southern Strategy to persuade racist whites to vote Republican. In a generation the South went from Blue to Red, where it remains. To this day, the GOP has not owned up to its race-baiting.

The worst southern racists joined a new party called the American Independent Party(completely different from the New American Independent Party).
Ken Mehlman did apologize for the Southern strategy which was not race-baiting. It was a campaign to encourage the south to vote Republican for reasons that were economic and religious. Forced busing was wrong because of 2 hour commutes and students having to pay taxes to schools they could not attend, though Atwater attracted racists.

Vast majority of the racist democrats remained in their own party till their death bed, like George Wallace, Mendel Rivers, Al Gore, Robert byrd, James Eastland, Richard Rusell, Rusell Long. Bill Clinton's mentor was a fervid segregationist, J fulbright. in 1976 Carter won the entire south, Clinton did also very well in the south. Louisiana and Georgia had 2 dems in the senate till 2002. Eventually south went into republicans because of economic reasons

You ignore the whole Southern Strategy the Republicans launched to take advantage of white racist resentment of Civil Rights -- largely thanks to unscrupulous strategist Lee Atwater. To say the South went Republican for economic reasons is strictly BS. The GOP has still not owned up to its racist tendencies, which as Doug Lamborn just demonstrated continue to this moment.

MLKII couldn't bring himself to vote for Goldwater because he was backed by racists, though Goldwater tried to distance himself from these racists as much as possible. MLKI had been a lifelong Republican who voted for Richard Nixon. Eventually, he became a Democrat because he liked Jimmy Carter, but he was still a conservative democrat until his death in 1984.

MLKII may have voted for Nixon or Kennedy. He initially backed Nixon, but Kennedy called Coretta and expressed sympathies about her husband was jailed for sitting-in and implied he'd have him released by executive order so it's possible he backed Kennedy.

The King Encyclopedia at Stanford is my source. King wrote to Nixon about ‘‘how deeply grateful all people of goodwill are to you for your assiduous labor and dauntless courage in seeking to make the civil rights bill a reality’’ (Papers 4:264)
He didn't back any party, but he backed individual candidates from any party that he felt would be effective at engendering civil rights.

I agree MLK would compliment indviduals that he felt helped civil rights move forward, but there was plenty of people besides Nixon who did things that he felt was for civli rights. But complimenting them on specific policies or actions didnt necessarily translate into full support. And that is what Im addresssing. The claim he was loyal to a political party.

I never said that about King Jr. King Jr. likely didn't have loyalty to the GOP or any political institution because parties were rapidly realigning then. I said or implied that Martin Luther King Sr. had some loyalty to the Republican Party for a while. King Jr. definitely backed Eisenhower and initially Nixon though.

King Jr. would not have likely written such praiseworthy accolades to a candidate he didn't back. Otherwise, he would have written Stevenson/Kefauver something even more impressive. Also, even the pro-civil rights Democrats like Harry Truman had war hawkish views that King Jr. abhorred. Nixon and Eisenhower came off as less warlike than Kennedy and more committed to civil rights than Stevenson.

Yes, that autobiography was written after King was moved by Kennedy's call to Coretta. King Jr.'s autobiography wasn't released until 1998 after substantial editing. King probably wrote this as a eulogy after Kennedy had been assassinated, which caused people of a wide variety of views to focus on the President's positive qualities. It doesn't read like he wrote it to Kennedy directly.
MLK Sr.'s biography was published in 1980.

Actually, no, blacks have NOT gained a significant role in the Fed gov. due to the democrats. Outside of gerrymandered minority-majority congressional districts that is not a republican is barack obama, who benefited from a leftist judge revealing the sordid details of GOP Sen. Ryan's ugly divorce to Jerry Ryan, which opened the way for obama. The GOP, by contrast, has elected many blacks to high office and appointed blacks to more. 1st black SOS, JCOS were both named by GWB (Rice and Powell).
