Bipeds can cross much more damage (as in post-holocaust) terrain, can you really drive over debris? Not even a tank can drive over a destroyed building.... why do animals and humans have legs? Think about the uses...
Biological bipedalism is a result of trait that favored an environmental niche over millions of years. Bipedalism in the form of a manned or unmanned combat vehicles is unrealistic as its hypothesized height causes weight distribution problems (including COGR), requires to many moving parts for realistic use, requires to much power, cannot distribute the impact of munitions, cannot load munitions effectively, and would weigh to much to carry any useful operational circumstance.
God dam it no machine is going to use a giant robot that shit is so primitive. Why do you think the US defense conglomerates havent made a MECHWARRIOR type system yet? Because its obsolete that's why.
2. That software is learning, it didn't come acquired with knowledge of how to 'correctly' defeat humanity.
3. That software requires resources and power for its machines, and, as we know, there has been a nuclear holocaust, so a system for that has to be established from debris.
Summary: All of it takes time and small steps. What do you expect from this movie? A fantasy world that defies common sense?
Would you suggest tanks or guns (which require hands (or similiar structures) to operate? Not every feature is automatic... there is simply no reason for automizing that which is normally man-ual. They have to create new things, do you think they will have tires made of rubber? Why not legs?
Would you suggest chemical weapons or more nuclear blasts? Both of which require either the acquisition of pre-existing setups or delicate (hand-held) procedures to develop.
Both of which (above) may further hinder or damage the limited (as it is definitely not unlimited) resources, of which that entity needs to survive.
The point I was trying to make, which I hope you gathered, is that there is no logical reason that an artificial intelligence wouldn't use a bipedal killing machine. It's not going to invent new things right off the bat, it uses what it knows (as we do) and expands from that. You only said it was primitive, what do you think it should do?
Bipeds can cross much more damage (as in post-holocaust) terrain, can you really drive over debris? Not even a tank can drive over a destroyed building.... why do animals and humans have legs? Think about the uses...
uh we are having an intelligent discussion... what kind of freak are you...for not contributing any rational comment like a normal human being should.
I do not doubt that your discussion is intelligent in light of future technology development. What bothers me is that you startet the discussion by being pissed about the plot of a SciFi-Movie, which is 100% nerd-behaviour.
However I will not participate in the discussion because although I am a soldier and military flight-student , my academical field is social sciences and not bipedal weapon systems. That seems to be your beer.
Na we didn't start the conversation talking about the movie...
We started and finished the conversation solely on the validity of the feasible use of a bipedal weapons system, because they are a common trend in modern cinema and interactive entertainment.
Im not sure what your problem is... or why you are even talking...
Oh, and for further explanation: Movies use bipedal w.-systems because they look cool and frightening. You wanna start an intelligent discussion about that? Don't use "god damn it / this shit is so primitive" and be smartass about why movies use bipedals although REAL-life military doesn't.
I was going to say something on this page, but it seems too hostile =/.... So nevermind.

This is going to be a very realistic film i.m.o.

I think you misunderstand my comment. The point is, no synthetic or biologic intelligence is going to use a bipedal weapons system.
TheBlitz1 3 years ago
What would it use, then?
Would you suggest tanks or guns (which require hands (or similiar structures) to operate? Not every feature is automatic... there is simply no reason for automizing that which is normally man-ual. They have to create new things, do you think they will have tires made of rubber? Why not legs?

No intelligence will use a bipedal weapons system, its implementation is not feasible.
