  • 8:48 oops!

  • @prometheus I can't wall jump :S Gonna have to learn that

  • Killer wall jumping!

  • hmmm... what is he doing to make the "run speed" while in morphing-ball form faster? Is this a legit version of Metroid 3?

  • @Disciple42 This is played on an SNES, so yes it is legit. As for the speed running as a ball, try googling "moch-ball", the internet can explain better than I can. Basically though, you have to turn into a ball very close to the ground after jumping at running speed.

  • the last metroid is at captivity - the galaxy is at peace

i remember when i herad that i was like "What the fuck... my SNES just talked"

though back then i hardly knew any english

  • I would KILL for another 2D Metroid the quality of Super Metroid. Metroid SR-388 (fan made game) looks amazing, hopefully Nintendo won't hit them with the dreaded "cease and desist" order.

I can't say enough good things about Super Metroid. It still beats most games out today, and still has one of the best and most memorable soundtracks to have ever graced the industry. Too bad about Gumpei, guy was a pure genius.

It's also a shame what they've done with other M. Metroid can do better.

  • The record is like 32 minutes now

  • @templer456512 isnt that TAS?

  • it looks like you can skip around and get certain items much earlyer then u would have with wall jumping

was this feature added for people to explore different ways of playing super metroid? or just a unexpected side affect?

  • Why does the time start out at 0:00 when the previous video must have taken at least a minute or two?

  • @abaltazar0725 Because the previous segment was less than 1 minute in-game time. Remember, it doesn't record time to transition rooms.

  • @JimtheBob Mad skills. Mad skills...

  • So when the title says "100%," it means he got everything in the game right?

  • @ouchDX yep

  • The redundancy of Red Scarlet's name is pretty redundant.

  • What is TAS?

  • @DriftingFWWA

    Tas Means Tool Assisted speedrun,

As an example, using a Bot to help your movements, so you dogde, or morph ball at the top of your jump with perfect timing every try.

  • 4:00 you forgot armpump

  • Don't quote me, but I believe this run was done before arm-pump was recognized as a significant factor in reducing game time.

  • @JimtheBob mmm ok. i read it somewhere on a metroid site and there was a video of someone doing it to escape fighting the first torizo

  • @Locustx925

Actually, escaping the Bomb Torizo is impossible (I believe) without tool-assistance on the NTSC version of the game, but it can be done on the PAL version.

Most speed runs are only recognized on NTSC.

  • what is this armpump you speak of? im pretty good at this game but never heard of it

  • 0:49

Samus: This shit will be sorted out within the hour.

  • hey how you make the morphing ball really fast i cant

  • @n3750n911

The "Mock-Ball" is simple really. Commonly done when using the Speed Booster, you jump into the air while running make sure Samus does her summersaults and all that. Then just before touching ground look down, then just as she touches ground you want her to morph into the ball at the same moment. If done right then the ball won't bounce when it touches ground, and she will continue at the same speed she had when running. Hard to do at first, but easy when you get the hang of it.

  • What precisely is the Mockball mocking?

  • The inability of the designers to debug the ability to move at regular running speed during ball mode.

  • @TehDogu I don't know if this is right or not but I'm thinking its "Mock-speed"

  • Then it would be spelled "Mach" Not Mock.

  • @TehDogu They call it Mock sometimes cause it's a mockery of the morph ball or some shit. I think mach ball sounds better anyway.

  • What do some people mean by tool-assisted? What is that and how does it make the gameplay easier?

  • Instead of going second-by-second, TASers go frame-by-frame. They also use "Save States" "Rewinds" and "Slow Downs" . So, basically ALOT of editing.

  • Isn't that technically alot of cheating?

  • @DupBror

TAS are for demonstration. It's generally not possible when playing normally.. and not meant to be.

  • Well people do speedruns with tas and that imo is quite strange and cheating :)

  • It's not cheating, though. They're not meant to showcase skill at the game; they're meant to showcase how a non-human player could exploit small bugs in the game code to do seemingly impossible things. They're more technical demonstrations than anything else. Cheating would be someone trying to pass a TAS off as a legit run.

  • Yes.

  • cant get past 8:25 wdhell!

  • completely ungodly and amazing. wow. how can you transform into a morph ball that fast?

  • i love the super metroid sounds they was the best sounds ever on SNES :)

  • @JohnOneStyle The sound did it's part for making this Metroid entry the most serious one. I so hope that Metroid gets back it's Alien feeling.

  • @Meggadezz yes True the New Metroid Games i dont even Touched, looks to Cartoony for me...this is the Unique one

  • what happens if the little eye light thing(supposedly a security camera thingy)stays on you to long?

  • Absolutely nothing, as it's there there to showcase what they could do.

  • nothing.

  • The Mockball Trick is fairly easy to learn. First you need to start sprinting (Crateria where the ship is located is perfect for practicing) then spin jump to max height, release, push and hold the jump button, push down, and IMMEDIATELY before hitting the ground, push down again (into Morphball mode) and move forward. Done correctly and you'll go at 1.5X speed in Morph Ball Mode!

W/ some practice, (trust me, it took me a while to learn this), you'll be as good as her. Practice makes perfect!

  • Man, that explanation helped me even more than the video tutorials. thx

  • Glad I could be of assistance. Call me "The Guru of Gaming"(everyone else does) and message me w/ a video game prob and i'll help.

  • Can anyone explain to me how to do what she did at 4:48? I can't get out of this area like this.

  • she wall jumped up there and morphed really quickly, it is pretty hard to do.

  • Jesus Christ; it's like it's done with an infallible computer with every little nuance possible.

  • I just got the missiles, reserve tank and super missiles at 5:56.

To do the mockball (the glitch of speedy morphball) you need to run, then do a spinning jump, only hold the jump button and take off your finger of the running button, press down so Samus you look down, then when you reach the ground press down and really fast press the direction you was running then don't take of the thumb of it. Thats it, you've done the mockball glitch :D

  • I struggled with it myself, tried about a hundred times, but i got it in the end. It takes a while to master!

  • How do you do that morph ball trick at 5:56?

  • just hearing the music brings back memories ^^ I love this game!

  • how do you figure a turbo controller was used?

or can you not see anyone shooting faster than you.

  • You fool, there was no turbo controller used, and if so it wouldn't be necessary if you can tap a button really fast.

  • man i loved this game. i watched it just to remind me of all the fun that i had beating it. i went to a friends house the other day. he had it on his wii. i spent bout bout an hour and a half playing it from start to finish.

  • I always fall down in that rock bridge in 8.34. Any help?

  • run with the B button

  • i played this with my couseng alot, we tryed to speedrun to^^ with 14 years hehe

  • como haces para correr con la bola? es que yo nose, intento y no puedo mierda / like you to run with the ball? I was not, I try and I can not shit

  • My spanish isn't that good, but I'll try.

Para correr con la bola, corre y jump, jump es que samus hace cuando toca A, un o dos estados de animo antes toca la tierra, toca abajo dos veces.

    me pm por preguntas

  • lol at 1:28. classic.

  • This is an epic game. One of the finest nintendo had to offer.

  • As I've posted MULTIPLE times, this IS NOT MY SPEEDRUN. This is Red Scarlet!

  • When you kill those moth things in Brinstar it sounds like they're saying, "Oh god!".

  • Damn Your good!

  • she is amazing. just look at the fluidity of her movements. theres almost no wasted time with her jumps

  • At 5:55, please explain to me how you get to roll with such a high pace. I just can't do it. Is there a special technique?

  • Run and get up speed, then jump and roll into a ball while you're still in the air. You'll continue rolling at the speed you were going when you jumped. It's pretty difficult to do; you'll probably have to make a few attempts.

  • Yeah, this guy's crazy good at the mockball technique.

  • I figured out how to do it now.. you have to press down twice really fast just when or right before you land, then press forward again. If you're too slow pressing forward after morphing, you lose momentum... I still have to try a few times though

    Thanks for the tips! =D

  • that staion looks an awfully lot like ragnarok from mmz 4

  • I think it would be the other way around. Ragnarok looks a lot like Ceres Station :). I doubt 2002 ripped off the design from 2005.

  • Does anyone know if there's a reason to why he wastes five missiles on a door that usually requires only one?

  • To which door are you referring? She only uses 5 missiles on the pink doors, which always take 5 to open.

  • They looked red to me. My bad.

  • Well played sir making the subsequent videos of this speedrun linked.

  • Hey, anybody know if this was done on an actual SNES or an emulator?

  • SNES. Read the discription on the first video.

  • lol what there is no description you bum lol

  • Read my comment. FIRST VIDEO.

  • how do u do the wall jumps?

  • This guy is jesus

  • Not even Jesus could do this, my friend.

  • LoL.

  • at 6.min and 39 sec I DIDNT KNO THAT WAS THERE!?!?!?! Dude by 8.23 ur on a roll huh lmao....and at the end of the vid UR FUCKIN LUCKY U MADE THAT JUMP LOL THATS LIKE A GOD LIKE JUMP LOL

  • well, now i know were the reserve tank is

  • the old metroid games are much better than the new!!!

  • I agree with you... but I like Metroid Prime.

  • to me, they are equal cuz i enjoy playing this game or metroi prime 3, they all own!

  • It is you vs the labyrinth .. very genuine

  • To Seanster1992,

Scarlet takes damage by running into the space pirates to save time.

  • csuper metroid brings back the memories

  • 2nd fav game Prime 1 is my fav but wow! stop making me like im horrible lol

  • man even without the speed boost she still runs unbeleivabley fast!

  • wat happens if you stay in that search light for too long does it call something?

  • u know you can blast those aliens with your missles

  • Ah, Super Metroid...one of the best Metroid games ever made...even Corruption is a match to a bonfire here...meaning Corruption sucks

  • i believe you mean "is NO match"

    all of prime sucks

  • lol nvm i figured it out...mockball xD

  • IMPOSSIBLE!! how can u move so fast as a ball to get thru that room?

  • He Has " Du Skills" lol!

  • search "mockball"

  • How the hell did yah make it past the room with the gates that come down? i see that yah turned into a ball but ive been trying that and thefirst gate shuts befor i get passed it

  • search "mockball"

  • a small ball full of mockery..

  • lol

  • one thing i don't get is why can't you combine spazer with plasma. That would be cool to see what that beam would look like!? lol

  • you mean this isn't tas?

  • No, this is all by hand, on an SNES actually.

  • HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU DO SUCH A HIGH JUMP?!!

AND HOW CAN YOU JUMP ON A WALL AND JUMP AGAIN, AT THE SAME TIME?!!! I fucking love to know!!

  • Wall jump

You have to spin jump towards a wall then as you hit it jump again in the other direction.

If done correctly Samus will push up off the wall then you can move back towards the wall and do it again

  • Yeah i have tired it many times, but it is too hard to do :(

Can't it have anything to do when it's on my Wii, and i'am ussing the classic controller?

I have heard it's not such a good controller

  • uhm how do you justify the "100%" in the headline? i see a normal speedrun and a pretty good one, too, but not a 100% run.

  • Uh, unless you watch the entire run. Collection of every item in the game is what qualifies as a 100% run.

  • best 90s game

  • whats the song for when u land on zebes

  • mine is 1:10... never to repeat again... im rusted

  • you missesd one

  • Man i tried new controls insted of defualt shot A jump B run Y select X and now I suck ass and screw up alot fuck!!!

  • Is this by red scarlet?

  • Yup

  • My record for playing this game is 100% and 1:27 min.

Compared to this guy i'd say thats descent.

  • My record of playing this game is 00:43 at 45%

    I've learned something now...

    Great job!

  • OMG finally mastered the mocking ball. took me over 2 hours

  • wtf? howd you go that fast morphed in the ball in the first room in brinstar?!

  • Mockball, the move that makes this speed run possible. Tough to explain, so I'd just google it.

  • ooooh man, i'm tempted to bust out the snes and play this. just hearing the music gives me the chills. good job.

  • I didn't know that pipe holds another missile!

I have to get that. :)

  • what is that thing at 9:49?

  • Just a well timed walljump.

  • damn i used to think metroid zero mission was confusing but man this game looks SUPER confusin i think if i played it i would get lost lol so i can't wait to play it :D

  • Acctually after you've played it a few times it's not confusing at all. But it's still REALLY fun!

  • hey.... jim....how do you speed up samus?

  • Hold the run button, or repeatedly hit 'aim down' while running. The second technique is called "shoulder pumping", and is a neat glitch that you shouldn't use while running downhill.

  • at 1:51 what does that light do?

  • It's supposed to be the space pirates spying on you. It's just a high tech camera.

  • what happens if you just stand there and let it shine on you?

  • It doesn't matter whether or not it catches you, the same thing will happen. But if you just let it shine on you you'll just waste your time.

  • What happens if you "shoulder pump" while holding the run button?

Mabey I should check...Unless they fixed it in Virtual Console. If so...ROMs anyone? lol

  • It brings samus 1 pixel forward, so you move slightly faster

  • instead of mega boy put man and instead of 5 put 76 in front of boy lol yah u shud do dat Megaman 765 lolz it wasnt funny and i wasnt tryin to be

  • Gotta love that beautiful Red Soil music at the end...

  • indeed.. and the music at the green world in the beginning.. :)

  • The game is on the wii now, for those who were wondering.

  • 2:18 omg!!! tha was cool man...

  • wow this guy is good i cant even get past brinstar

  • this is better than gamesfaq

  • Finnaly some who tries to get everything!

  • i can't wait for this to be on the wii virtual console.

  • it is

  • Why isn't this game on the DS yet

  • Ive been waiting for to come out for the ds too, it would be more likely to be on the GBA though

  • Yeah, its just that the button layout for the DS is exactly the same as the SNES

  • Yeah, but they made more games like this for the GBA like Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission

  • Yeah true

  • how the hell is he doing that at 5:55? its friggin impossible for me. does he have a hack?

  • Its called the mockball technique. Basically, you run and morph into a ball without losing the speed. Just look up on gamefaqs how to pull it off.

  • can you plz tell me how you do the one side wall jump

  • when ur going to jump its easier with the high jump boots to do wall jumps, when you first jump on wall keep samus pointing towards the wall jump opposit way there should be split second where u see samus pressing agenst wall thats when u jump it takes practice doing it but its a lot easier with high jump so get that before u attempt it or your fingers will hurt like mad

  • o and if ur tryin to stay to the wall when when your doing the wall jump when you push off direct yourself back to the wall and continue doing this

  • Can the mockball technique can be performed on the Wii virtual console? The gamfaqs "glitch" guide did not specify one way or the other.

  • I don't see any reason why not, I believe the Wii virtual version is a direct port of the older Super Metroid.

Anyone who actually has a Wii want to field this one?

  • Sorry, I have Super Metroid for the Wii virtual consol, but was unable to get the trick to work. Now I regret tossing my perfectly good SNES in the trash all those years ago...original SNES controllers beat the classic controller hands down!

  • The Wii Version is not a direct port.

I was disappointed, because the "Murder beam" glitch was fixed. =( they shouldn't touch them on virtual console. The glitches were just as much a part of the game as anything else.

  • That's really too bad, if you can't murder beam you can't quick-kill Mother Brain, you can't do the Space-Time Glitch, you can't reset the bosses...

    A shame.

  • I got it on Wii VC and that does not work for me... I don't think they're meant to mess with the games before releasing them though so I have no idea why it doesn't work.

  • wow that IS fast
