Hard to believe that this oldie could beat the I-beam film on my personal list of unintentionally scary letter segments. The loud music beginning suddenly, the puppets appearing and disappearing from odd angles....I'm relieved to hear that I was not the only one scared half to death as a kid! *whew*
I can't even begin to tell you how bad this freaked me out as a child. I couldn't even stay in the room with it! LOL! I've been looking for it ever since. Thanks for posting this!
The music was by Raymond Scott, the former bandleader/composer responsible for many of the classic tunes used in Warner Brothers cartoons. He was also a brilliant electrical engineer who invented many synthesizers. He and Jim Henson collaborated on various electronic music projects.
I'm just now learning about Raymond Scott and his amazing talents. Some of the WB music I thought was written by Carl Stalling (e.g. Powerhouse) was only conducted by him, Scott actually wrote those pieces. And his contribution to electronic music seems to be as important as the likes of Robert Moog and Leon Theremin.
I wonder if maybe Jim was having a bit of an off-day when this was taped... notice the purple alien's skull keeps moving up when he speaks?
