I've seen photos of people handling uranium oxide on a daily basis. Must have been factories in the US. In one pic, a guy had thin gloves and had a block of pure uranium in his hands. Don't worry about that tiny pebble. The radiation is too low. Don't play with it too much and put it in a plastic bag.
Some people should not talk about what they do not know. ie. David1513. You sir are an idiot. It isn't counting RADs its counting COUNTS per second or per minute. Probably per second thats why it went up so fast, these COUNTS per sec or CPS must be converted to DPM in order to be used and I doubt the accurcy of a homemade gieger is within 5% so its likely seeing less than 1000dpm a RAD is about 100,000,000 dmp.
if your hand's feel sticky you had better start scubbing with soap and lots of water many times cause your over exsposed 800 rads are fatel, ive had 500 rads i had to do the same thing scrubb many times,

imho, doctors need to find a way to make healthy cells self replicate and the mutated ones activate suicide mode, they are too focused on figuring out an external solution.
I've never seen evidence to say radiation causes cancer and its the only cause, but I ask questions, and I hear cell mutation IS cancer and can only put 2 and 2 together.
smoking, releases smoke which is mainly carbon, also would be small amounts of carbon 14. sunlight, is radiation. your house occasionally will make carbon 14 from the bricks, theres no way to stop potentially getting cancer because of this, and it is beyond me why radiation should "cure" it at all, should make it worse.
Ionizing radiation (gamma and xrays) do cause cell damage. The partical's go whizzing by with such force and such speed, they can litteraly rip apart ones DNA. This rip causes a mutation when that strand of DNA replicates. Most of the time, the mutation is harmless, other times however, the mutation can remove the chemical command that the cell looks for to stop replicating said DNA. This is Mitosis that has gone haywire, or in more common terms, a tumor factory. to be continued

also cancer = mutated cells caused by radiation ? would explain ALOT of things about why they haven't found a way to "cure" it as its not a disease at all its mutation...from what I understand on the subject...
There is no cure for cancer, actually. We can make it go into 'remission', but curing it would be manipulating every cell in the body at the genetic level. This is what puzzles scientists. If there was a chemical cure for cancer, where you could NEVER get it again, our society would be largely different... Let's put it this way. Doctors focused on geriatrics would have multiple times the amount of patients they do now.. ;-)
they showed us a geiger counter at school, then proceeded to take radioactive "lead" we we're told, out of an apparently shielded wooden box. I still would very much like to kill i mean sue them...yes, sue them...
my theory, if he's not dead, is that his counter works differently as its homemade and not a patent specific geiger muller style counter, but he could be dead, you'd never find out, whats he gunna do post "yea...I melted."
you can buy uranium ore on amazon so either way were screwed.
Lead is largely an alpha emitter, so storing it in a wooden box actually would shield it. And it would appear that his counter is set up (at least in this video) to measure total counts, rather than a count rate. And being able to buy Uranium ore doesn't mean anything.
Not that I am a suspicious kind but this reminds me more of a salt lick or food plot , or even corn in a dove field if you will. I linked in by looking up vids on marx generators ( part of my job is EHV repair) . Cant help if homeland boyz are watching who watches nuke vids???? Naw, uncle would never do that would they....
It depends on the exposure of radiation, I believe it's around 23 sieverts to make it a 100% chance of getting cancer. 1 sievert is 100 Roentgens. The chances of having a mutation from the radiation goes up with the does, the problem with getting a dose of 23 sieverts is that it would kill you in less than 30 minutes, so you only ever get a chance of getting cancer from radiation.
that isn't a measure of rem (röntgen equivalent in man). This is the amount of ionizing particles that were intercepted by the medium, in this case his homemade geiger counter. If a mere 700 particles would kill a human, your head would probably have been glowing green and/or exploded by now. :-)
But he actually used a smoke detector for the radioactive source. That's right! Smoke detectors contain Am 241, a synthetic element.
Nice vid is your gieger counter picking up a bit of backround radiation? Becuase it goes up a little... Would it count quicker if you took it out side on a sunny day??
just kidding, but plutonium would produce the same effect cause it only emitts alpha radiation. You even can hold it in hour bare hand safely if you do that for only a minute or two
Well, you can find it in smoke detectors for free. I think the average activity in public detectors is about 50kBq, but I found a very-very active one (this is in the video) with about 20MBq.
