A state can't run without a Central government and have order, therefore in practice, communism must form a central government but without check and balance which give the one in power full power leading to tyrannical ruling. Karl Marx envisioned an ideal society which is totally not possible because you CAN give people equality of opportunity, but not equality of wealth and status, it destroys the idea of individualism

A state in which there is no private ownership of property will lead many people seeing no purpose in working thus becoming the parasites living off of the rest in a communist society. We just need to teach the people a different incentive to work. Not for income or self gain, but for the people and the country.
