When people say this has been one of the most exciting races of the Trials so far, which other races are they referencing? Absolutely none of them compare to the excitement of this race.
muskuls69- Its not all U of O boys... Andrew Wheating is the only one who went there. Christian Smith went to K-State, and Nick Symmonds went to Willamette University and is originally from Boise Idaho.
what race? what race? if you were any sort of trackie you would have seen one of the greatest american races EVER! symmonds with a smashing last 200 in 25 seconds to smash the competition in such a stacked field. All UofO boys representing the USA in beijing.
I live in Eugene and attend most of the meets. I went to the trials in '80 and '84 in LA, not to mention the Pre meets here. Never have I witnessed a more exciting race than this one! The crowd was the loudest I've ever heard at Hayward. Live it was awesome, and this vid gives me goosebumps every time I watch it!
then you obviously never watched prefontaine race in eugene. it was louder just when he walked out onto the track, then it was right then. and anyone who was there would say the same thing. he put more excitement into american running then any other person in the past. alan webb is getting there, and so is ryan hall. but this race has nothing on what pre could get a crowd to do. nothing
Actually you have no idea what you're talking about. Ask anyone this race WAS louder than it ever got for Prefontaine. Also Alan Webb is nothing. He is the biggest chokestick in the sport. He has the best times for any American ever in the 800 and mile (and good enough times all the way up to 10k in other races to at least be top 10 at any given time) yet he can't even make it to the fucking olympics? Give me a break.
low-fi video, but the crowd... so awesome! i always feel like i'm the only track & field fan in the world at home...here is a stadium full of people that understand a real sport when they see it... what a race that was! the 5,000 was almost as awesome, hope someone puts the last lap of that up for my brother.
absolutely amazing...i was going nuts during this race...i seriously thought he was way too boxed in too late in the race and thought he was done until he made that sick move...cool to see it from the back stretch perspective and hearing the roar of the crowd...couldnt hear it as loud in tv...all you heard was the announcer....SYMMONDS!!!! SYMMONDS!!!! so inspirational being an 800 meter athlete
Just go to the NBC Olympics website, click on track and Field, and then video and you'll see the picture of the three guys w/ American flags. This was simply amazing.

If you'd had been there you'd understand how loud it was. It was louder in Hayward field than it even ever was than when Prefontaine ran there.

I live in Eugene and attend all the Hayward events. This is without a doubt the craziest and loudest event since the days of Pre. Not to be missed!
