@BiggJern I'm not really an installer. At most of the car audio shops that I've worked with in the past, I've always held some sort of a consulting position. Anymore, the closest that I come to installing are my enclosure builds.
How young would be inappropriate is also a good question. I think it doesn't matter, unless the conversation is of an unacceptable nature for the younger person. If a 40 year old is asking a 6 year old what his favorite TV program is, does it matter? No. That's a perfectly reasonable and innocent question.
I'm so damn cagey about my age on the internet because no matter how good my information is, somebody will say that I'm wrong just because I'm young.
I know your point. Its also kinda like how old one should be to be able to drink alcohol. Well the law is 21 in USA, but you can get recruited and go kill innocent people at 17,18,19,20 not only that put your life in danger and the possibility to get killed.
There is no relevance . But in the cause you are describing sounds more like a way to back out of a conversion that the "older " person thinks he or she is out matched in .
Too many people watching "To catch a predator" on Dateline NBC, thinking that every person in a chatroom that is not under the age of 15 is a pervert trying to have sex with or abduct a minor. Same concept of people locking their doors everytime they roll up on a pan handler. Paranoia.

If someone says that it's inappropriate for you to associate with younger people, they're essentially calling you a pedophile. It's kind of like not allowing black people into your store because you've once seen news footage of a black man committing theft. People are so ignorant, it's depressing at times.
Older people shouldn't be talking to younger people. God forbid an older person should share a little sage advice or offer up some tidbits of wisdom that come along with having a little age on ones' self. Some people are just plain ignorant......

So if you discriminate against an entire grouping of originators, whether on account of their age, gender, race, or social class, that's willful ignorance at it's worst. Though I wonder what makes one form of discrimination more acceptable than another. For instance, how often is it that someone gets kicked out of a chat for being black or female? Does that even happen?

@gothatfunk Just watched it; I'd give you a thumbs up but you've disabled the ratings. Your video touches more on the relationship side of age discrimination, and does a thorough job of it too. I think that's a subject all on it's own, and it stems from the general argument that I've brought up in my rant. Anyone reading this, check out Gothatfunk's video.

@winder808 Hey, I don't have to listen to a 41 year old. (Kidding, obviously. Although someone used that very "argument" against me, here recently.) And, you're right, there are some unsavory characters out there to be mindful of, but we shouldn't superimpose their offenses over their entire age group; that's outright bigotry.
@gcs8 There's a substantial difference between my mother's and my father's age as well. Shame on them for being such good parents to me instead of propagating adolescent hang-ups about age difference :-)
If you are 31 they would haft to be 310 but at that point there either dead, from outer space, or a twilight vampire at which point you shouldn't talk to then any way.
Being serious hear for a moment though, I would say any one you don't know being alone with your kids (under 18) could be bad, but in my experience as long as one of the two involved is not a predator 99.8% of the time everything is fine.
Let's just call this a debacle from the overly paranoid and religion.
