  • take Jane for what she is......real quality..........voice control...exceptional.........presentation...vibrant.... she..stands..and....sings....

  • Stop comparing, this IS the new Ella, the new Peggy, and she is young, good looking and she can sing. Too many girls of her age are wannabe's of the pop crap diva's, this one is special... Sit listen, watch and most important.. Enjoy

(See my latest HQ posts to "Monheit")

  • you are perfect!

  • She's my favorite Jazz singer of all time.

  • Well she certainly deserves to be on Legends of Jazz, this lady is special

  • Fabulous!! I just love watching her perform...she has such a sultry look to her and it matches her voice and music. Love it!!!

  • I agree with Little Louie. She's gorgeous, and undoubtedly sincere, but the voice doesn't move me at all.Now Diana Krall is sometimes put in the same category, but she has worked very hard to come up with an appealingly "cool" style all her own.

  • name of this singer please!

  • nice

  • cool...

  • jane is really a good performer, she sings

like herself, i've seen her last dec.29'09 at

    catalina jazzbar, hollywood

with my friend mon david,a jazz musician who sings like himself as well.

  • Jane has the looks but regretably has a rather hollow voice and her interpretation style is less than convincing. She admired people like Ella and Billie, but didn't seem to learn much from these artist. Jane is more style - than substance.

  • So nice, very tight and relaxing, but seems something is wrong with her monitor, come she sings constantly slightliy under pich... The only thing I could put my finger on, the rest is beautiful!

  • Jane, I wanna be yer SugarDaddie

  • Pure Class !!!

  • wow, she is

  • As a practitioner of jazz, I find it annoying when practitioners of jazz pretend as if jazz is all there is to music.

  • I agree. But those who can't play it make good listeners and imitators with arrangements that are toned down a bit. Having a classical background myself does help but jazz improvisational playing is in a league of its own. I hope I can graduate to that level of musicianship one day, probably in some future lifetime. I'm getting exposed to good music, and now need several lifetimes anyway to practice and assimilate some of what I am hearing.

  • @Aphotic0221 and your point is???

  • @Aphotic0221 It's all that's available in terms of honest music.

  • @npl148 I disagree, but to each his (or her) own.

  • @Aphotic0221

I have played it all from country, rock, R & B, marching band, classical orchestra, bigband, jazz trio with no bass, so on....

    I'm a keyboardist, also play Alto/Tenor Sax.

I cannot listen to one genre of music without offsetting it with something 180 opposite to create balance, I could listen to Chick, Becker all day, then I need some J S Bach, Brahms or Liszt.

Search for Professor Delbert Bump, who taught me how to play Jazz Piano.

  • @rmakdad Haha, my comment was a reply to something a while ago, somebody was claiming that jazz is the only real music. And for the record, the likes of Bach and Brahms laid a good portion of the groundwork for jazz. :)

  • @Aphotic0221 Agreed, jazz is the merging of African American slaves rhythmic beats and singing with European classical music! Music Appreciation 101, geez what a boring class, but an eye opener. Ok I'm part right on that, jazz is one of the offshoots of the merging of European and African music and rthythm, also ragtime, rock, country, pop, R n B, etc.... all the modern genre of music.

  • @Aphotic0221 Be that as it may, I find it more annoying, that Americas genre of music, is the lowest selling genre of music in the country... It's a damn shame.

  • Even though my left speaker isn't working, it still sounds beautiful. Imagine what it would sound like with 2 speakers! :)

  • Oh Yezzzzzzz....this is JEEEEZZZZZ

  • This is why i love jazz.

  • beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful!!

  • It "cracks me up" when people say.."This kind of music?" This IS music! Real music, mathmatically correct, the actual stuff from which even the garbage of today stems. ! Do you think today's puke is MUSIC? Please. We've just been away from it for so long that one forgets! Kudo's to these young people today who can keep it alive! Bravo Ms. Monheit~!

  • you go girl

  • I'm a jazz aficionado myself (anyone know why Christian isn't playing with her on this one?), and I find this kind of thinking the very thing that keeps jazz on the outside of popular music. People don't want to be berated for their musical tastes and we, as a jazz loving community, tend to be the most insulting of other genres. All we need to do is ease off the fiery rhetoric and ease on the acceptance of the fact that not all music is loved by all people all the time, and we can be hip again

  • The main reason that Jazz is not Popular anymore is because its not easily understandable and most people dont comprenhend music in the way that we do. also rock n roll and other simple easily accesible genres available to youth who want to rebel.

  • I respectfully disagree. Jazz ceased to be relevant with the culture-at-large and was thusly thrust out of the "popular" light in most formats. (Christmas music being on the few that one can find jazz styling consistently accepted.) And while a portion of the appeal of Rock n' Roll may have been social rebellion, one would be remiss in assigning all the popularity of the genre to this and simple accessibility. As with all music, it's more about how the music connects with it's listeners.

  • @bassplayinfool True my comment was a bit sloppy but i disagree with the notion that jazz ceased to be relevant, just not pop anymore. But u cant discount the conncection and rise of rock and roll was its edge and appeal to youth maybe not all but a significant amount.

  • Amazing.. absolutely amazing..

  • Seriously, not many times an angel falls to earth....

  • You can not not like jazz!

  • Sure you can, and you certainly can't expect everyone to enjoy it. It's a taste that not everyone can, and not everyone should be able to, appreciate.

  • cool

  • im starting to like this kind of music.... Jazz is a very nice music, please i wanna know more about this beutiful music.... please send me any suggestions about the best of Jazz,,,,, thanks

  • Check out Chris Botti, Michael Buble, Dianna Krall, all on youtube. See if you can track down a copy of Ken Burns' "Jazz". It will give you an historical perspective to go with your appreceation.

  • miles Davis Sketches of Spain .

  • wow, i really just want to find a real SOPRANO jazz vocalist!

    why is this so difficult????

  • LOL... It actually is. ; ) Jazz requires a lot lower chest voice, which produces a lower quality (alto). There is a very famous soprano jazz vocalist ... Blossom Dearie (RIP). I'm not a huge fan, but you might appreciate her. She is a good pianist however...

  • Beautiful and a voice? She's a threat..... lol...

  • Well, in spanish "bravo" is an expression you use when you like something and it can be used for men and women cause it´s for the situation not for the person.

  • Yo can say "bravo" even if it's a women!!!

  • actually no dude....its supposed to be 'brava' when its a woman....

  • no actually in the term "bravo" is well used in this kind of situation.

However it can be used as and adjective for men (bravo) and for women (brava).

In this case we'd say "bravo" because is used as praise over an act.

  • very nice!

  • she is great maybe replace ellia fitz

  • Whoa! I love Jane but don't get carried away ; ) lol

  • Original and beautiful!!!!!!

  • Jane have a fine voice and she sing the melodys with great heart. Thx for your art

    Jane. PA

  • It's nice..

but if she went through three divorces.. a terminal sickness and the death of a child it would get better. Well just the song.. not her maybe.

  • I doubt it, there is no tragedy that can enhance a skill in such a way that could make you great.

I really feel it would have an opposite effect if you don't have the tools to get up there with the best.

  • shes rly good but a tiny bit too much vibrato for my liking

  • amazing.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she's great!!! i love it!

  • Bravo! Bravo!

  • Bravo? She'a woman you should say BRAVA not BRAVO, check out wiktionary.

  • oh she got me chilled, oh my dear god what a nice voice i never ever heard from a jazz female singer, and the band extremely are quit such to follow the singer and give her the lead.

  • songs on tv can't be too long. I think that's why.

no five minute piano solos while she gets a drink from the bar, fixes up her face and talks to two friends and a fan.

  • Brilliant!

  • wow ! beautiful ..the song and Jane ;p

  • Fat? C'mon she is a real woman not some cookie cutter cutout. She happens to be an amazing artist.

  • Come on, Diana Krall is not worthy of playing Monheit's backing tracks.

Besides, she's a singer not a model. She has actual abilities. No need for her to obsess about every single pound.

  • she's hot and chubby.. nice voice

  • I'd like to tap that.... while she's singing to me.

  • MARVELOUS!

  • Does anyone know who the guitarist is?

  • Miles Okazaki

  • Sei bellissima e bravissima COMPLIMENTI

    wowowowo

  • very nice

  • She has a great voice!!!

  • Fantastica. Bellísima y super talentosa.

    Estoy enamorado de ti........

  • semplicemente fantastica...Mi sono subito innamorata di lei....

  • Go Jane it's your jazz day Go Jane Go Jane. lol A very pretty song. Powerful voice. 5 starz!

  • I enjoyed that....great !!!

  • I will not be able to hear when she is 80 , I hope some of you are ! .

  • She has an excellent voice. It is great to see younger artists keeping these great songs alive. She will undoubtedly continue to excel in the music world. Talent...great looks...a winning combination.

  • nice strings.......

  • Brilliant!

  • very good

  • Good!! Who's the drummer?

  • It's her husband, Rick Montalbano... they met in college

  • wrong. Rick Montalbano is the father of Jane Monheit. He was playing in Jaco Pastorius' big band back in the day.

bass player is orlando leflemming. It's odd for me to see him playing this as the only times I've seen him live has been with ari hoenig.

  • uh, nope... Rick Montalbano is her husband... I know them... and Orlando doesn't play with them anymore, Neal Miner tours with them now.

  • I had no idea that there was a rick montalbano jr. I didn't know that he and his son share the same name. my mistake. I only know the pianist, rick sr.

neal is a nice pick for her group. he's a great player

  • Ahh, I see... Yes... awesome people all around!

  • actually rick montalbano is jane monheit's father-in-law

  • I don't know if this is before or after your other comment, but Rick Montalbano Sr. is Jane Monheit's father and law and Rick Montalbano Jr. is Jane's Husband. Rick Sr. is my piano teacher - so I believe that's how it is.

  • Jane is married to Rick Montalbano, Jr. His father is Rick Montalbano.

Neither of them is Jane's father!!

  • It's crazy how musicians (or wannabee musicians) may think of others as playng "too clean"!! What's up with that? Actually you should listen to shirley jones "it might as well be spring" on youtube, that's also "clean"!

  • Jane is a GREAT singer. I initially thought she sounded too "clean" but after repeated listening I have really grown to LOVE her sound!

  • bass about to walk out the room

  • Hmmmmmmm...Joanna, mabeeee if she sang a little less trained and rustic, you would comment that she not trained enough and too raw!! Sounds like a green-envy to me!

  • such a trained voice, and modern phrasing..

  • Wow......she's gorgeous.....

  • maybe a little bit too much control and presicion...... lovelly girl, good talent, i'd like to hear her a bit more..... how can i say....? a bit dirtier vocally. less studied.

  • Maybe like Ms. Abbey Lincoln?

  • or like Ms. Ella Fitzgerald you can never mistake anything she sings for anything else. her phrasing was so exact.

  • lol you got that right!

  • i love the way Jane Sings. such control and precision

  • beautifull song can feel the bassplayer.

    a lot of ****stars

  • quelle allure, quelle classe, et une jolie couleur dans la voix...

  • Wonderfull voice and an impressive outward apearance!

  • Jane is one of the finest jazz singers around today
