  • This is a very beautiful song, but the quotes around the title - The "Sweetest" Girl - add so much. He's singing about a beautiful girl, but he's also singing about pop music, and how pop songs, like politics, can change our perception of the world - "the sickest group in all the world, how could they do this to me?" Choosing a "Lover's Rock" style is probably no accident.

  • Magic. Beautiful. Evocative. Being young. God I so miss those times...

  • The business

  • WOw! That gal in the photo IS really sweet. What an underrated song.

  • So much better than the Madness cover :)

  • Beautiful 80s song but want's ever more beautiful is the girl! We all drift through life doing the same old thing, work, rest and sometimes play. Then BANG! one day you either meet or see the most girl beautiful girl you've ever seen. Well today is that the day. She is the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I would "launch a thousand ships" for her!

  • Still got the EP from 1982 (I think). Crystal clear and so good - loud -

  • It's the 2nd time I ask these 2 questions, but if someone can just plz help me!

Does anyone know of a video for this marvel of a song, as for another gem, A Little Knowledge? Anyone? PLZ?

  • way ahead of his time... still good today, and he's still producing great music! Also, just from over the mountain in Cwmbran.....

  • One of my all time fave songs ever!

listening to it causes goosebumps all over everwhere on my skin! ooooooooooooooh!!!

  • 16 years old, under the covers with my Transistor radio listening into Richard Skinner and Dave 'Kid' Jensen, Scritti Politti with this underground hit. When music was music and youth culture was from the street up, will never forget.

  • @floppybollox3 You've just described my 80s. :-)

  • Madness's version of this was a disgrace. This is my favourite song of all time and they slaughtered it.

  • This so reminds me of when I was a young man - I played this to my girlfriend often - she eventually married some twat who liked The Eagles ....!!!

  • @TheKunig hahaha.. yeah, women are stupid. it has happened 2 all of us at some point.

  • Rock Bottom meets Jamaican aroma, heartmelting perfection by Scritti Politti.

  • Madness made a version of this song a few years later.

  • @MrFcordeiro1 - Madness should be ashamed at their disgusting cover of such a lovely song .........

  • I remember having this track on a free cassette from the NME. C81 it was called some class tunes on it.

  • @affectionatepunch ... a real rarity, that tape, too! I'd kill for it!! :-) It's one of several Holy Grails in Scrittidom. I have a few of them, but that tape... ever elusive.

  • What? This tape I'm listening to now?

A much better production than the album/single version

  • i loved the 1980's i miss it

  • magical

  • Special guest star - Robert Wyatt on Rock Bottom-y style keyboards. Beautiful. I love this track. Lustrous.

  • I remember this girl at school, I couldn't tell her how I was so dying for her, so I made her a cassette with punk stuff, but the last song, perfectly placed so it was finishing the B side, was this song, exactly this version. Guess what, it worked.

  • @mizukisoupe - Good on ya Mate...stunningly beautiful gal, and so befitting of the song.

  • Holy crap she is HOT LOL

    Who's the chickie?

  • A pure adventure in listening pleasure!

  • sweet picture cant stop looking ather ,,Yumm

  • The Sweetest Girl?

    no DOUBT!! 8O

she's almost as perfect as the tune 8D

  • the most perfect example of irony,

probly got to be a bit more

    battlescarred to see it; excellent.

  • Boy oh boy... isn't this just one of THE finest songs from the era ? How could you ever articulate to folks these days how moving a song like this was in 1981 ! - it seems like a lifetime ago (in fact it is for some people).

What were you doing in 1981 ? I was sooo happy - my first true love, (she loved Scritti) and of course, I got hooked and well. Timeless people... simply timeless and long may we remember it

  • I was playing with GI Joes, eating peanut butter sandwiches and going to bed by 10PM. But by the time of "Perfect Way" I was... doing other things, what?!

  • @clubsport911 Absolutely perfect homage to a golden moment in music.

  • @clubsport911 This was the first song I ever played on my university radio show, Brilliant album but yes, hard to explain to a modern audience just how ground breaking it was.

  • Prpbably one of the best songs from the 80's

  • haunting song

  • hEY! WHO IS THE GORGEOUS LADY?
