  • O.O Jack Black... as King Herod.... NEED TO SEE NOW!

  • Barry Dennen is such an underrated actor! I don't know why that is! Couldn't ask for a better Pilate

  • where can we find a video of this performance?!

  • Yvonne Elliman has hardly changed a bit

  • @DblC3 is that her? she looks great if it is!

  • @deathmetalhippy Yeah, that's her. I remember her from the movie version.

  • Yay for Ted Neely!!! Man is in his 60's and he can still belt out a tune like he is 25!

  • Cool video:) thnx 4 posting!

  • sorry: ac/dc

  • @hudsonprivate No, it's a reprise of the main "Superstar" theme from the show. It's in a lower key that sounds exactly like "You Shook Me All Night Long," but it's not AC/DC.

  • is that ad/dc playing on the background?

"you, shook me all night long.."

  • Jack Black? c,mon, where is the punch line?

  • @52hogan Well, he is fantastic singer.

  • That is the best group hug I've ever seen. But...LOL...Yvonne Elliman sniffed at Jack Black's armpit!

  • oh wow! there's gotta be more of this!

  • two things to all the people saying shit about Jack being in this play, whether is in the "he aint worthy to" way, or in the "he disappointed us fans for doing it" way, first he is an actor and this play is BIG, why would'nt he want to partisipate, and olso for both of you, if you knwo a lill bit of this play, it was written to make fun of all Christian belivers for quite a lot of reasons, so stop acting like this is some sort of holly ritual or something, its a play a funny play infact

  • @filiesillo The play is the story of jesus's last few days as seen through Judas' eyes. Where you got that it is in any way a mock of anything is beyond me. Jack Black was a last minute addition and yes he is a self promoted atheist, but king harod, mocked jesus for claiming to be the christ and helped condemn him to death for their belief that he didnt exist, no religion comes into this part in the slightest. This was a charity event...Nothing more nothing less.

  • @B3yondTh3Pal3 Atheist ? He`s Jewish like most of The Non-Roman Characters in this play .

  • what a useless video ¬¬

  • Maestroinfernus- So what? Jesus IS a jew. He died a Jew. Do people not know this? This must be the same spectrum of the US population that still believe Iraq had something to do with 9/11. When the Romans executed Jesus he died a Jew. He is my prophet and he happens to be a Jew. Again, so what?

  • @kaibybrunis Ok 2 things.... maestroinfernus, King Herod was a Jew as well, and in that way Kaibybrunis was correct in saying it isnt funny because Jack's character was a Jew. But cmon kaibybrunis... Jack played Kind Harod, not Jesus....

  • where can we see the rest?

  • Its funny cause Jack's a Jew

  • Search here on you tube for "Mr. Show Jeepers Creepers Jack Black". Jack does a takeoff on J.C.S..

  • @stratman123 The "Jeepers Creepers Semi-Star" bit from Mr. Show was BRILLIANT!!! Oh, how I loved that show. DAMN HBO to heck for cancelling it. And praise be to David and Bob on high for featuring Jack Black in a variety of skits on that show.

  • No video will be released, or so I hear. They DID record it, officially, but the event was pulled together in a few weeks. I hear that the proshot video sucks, and is pretty much unwatchable.

  • "all shook up" Swing?

I was a tad disappointed too, but "furious"?

I'd hate to see you when they run out of candy.

  • i cant imagion jack black as herod i imagion him as judus

  • Haha same, when I saw the title of this video I assumed he'd be Judas.

  • really? I think King Herod is one of the best possible roles for Jack Black in this musical. Granted, I think he could do Judas, I think he could definitely hit the notes and is a great singer, but with his reputation, Herod seems perfect.

  • I too was hoping to see even a bit of the performance. Oh well..

  • Here's the deal in this clip: the late Jack Nakano out together a one-night benefit performance of Superstar with Gary Goddard, my wife and others to benefit YouTheatre America. As Carl had passed, my pwife asked Vereen to play Judas, while Jack pulled his former student Black into the production at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre at Hollywood & Vine. No video allowed by Really Useful Group and the unions, so this was a bootleg from the audience. (My 8-year-old sat by Geena Davis & Harrison Ford)

  • No video allowed by RUG or the unions? Reportedly, there was some archival taping done, or there would not have been a screening of the filmed material that I am aware of.

  • I was at this show. It was an amazing event!

  • Is there any footage out there from this show? Any dvds? Anything? I would love to see Jack Black performing, plus the original movie cast as well!

  • towards the back of the stage is that frederick B. owens from the 200 version of JCS? why was he there?

  • I felt sorry for Jack cause he didnt get in the group hug :(

  • The reason they did the group hug was because Neeley, Elliman, Dennan, and to a lesser extent, Vereen, have worked together for some 25+ years. They have a history together. Black is a relative newcomer to the broadway scene, although I do love to see him branch out like this.

  • is that gary oldman playing jesus????? looks alot like him

  • Ted Neeley man. nothin beats originals

  • exactly. =) Ted is my favourite.

  • Didn´t Ian Gillian do an even earlier versiion then Ted Neeley

  • Yeah, Ian Gillian is the original Jesus. Ted Neeley came second.

  • Ian Gillan just did the recoding. He never actually performed it.

  • FUCK THAT SHIT Pilate blows Herod the FUCK out of the water when it comes to how awesome the role is.

  • Is there a video with his Performance?

  • @jeeeem that would be quite the treat to see

  • @FoxAttaak Agreed, I'd really like to see Jack's take on Herod. Seems like it would be quite fun with his personality.

  • is there anywhere i cn watch this it seems like it wud b so gd??????????????

  • seeing the jcs tour with ted nelly nexr yesr

  • OMG. THIS PRODUCTION HAPPENED?!!?

Was this before or after Carl Anderson died??

  • The Report about Mary and Jesus

    video:watch?v=WMMqEvPs--Y

  • lol, it's obvious that Jack Black is the star of the show, not jesus christ.

  • lmao

  • fuck you.

  • I will try to put it in far more elequent terms: Ted Neeley was very, very subtle in the film. As he got older, though, his interpretation has become much stronger. You can't really judge Neeley until you've seen him live, or at least until you listen to a boot from the 92-97 tour.

  • They didn't change the lyrics for the film. Only in "Strange Thing, Mystifying" where they switch "let her kiss you/stroke your hair" instead of "let her stroke you/kiss your hair". It wasn't bad. The production was brilliant, filled with metophores and breathtaking cinematography. Neeley was good; his voice was nice, albeit weaker than it is now. All of the cast was fantastic except Herod and Simon.

  • I was agreeing with you up until the final two words of your comment, "and Simon".

  • Dude, Simon kicked ass in that movie...

  • I appreciate that this comment was left a couple of months ago, but I've only just seen it.

I agree with you that Judas & Herod are the best roles, but isn't it always easier to play a baddie? (albeit, in Judas' case a desperately vulnerable one).

You can't possibly knock Ted Neeley for his interpretation. It's the one that has inspired people for generations. And isn't that the point?

Fuck me, I'm an atheist, but he still makes me think... what if? So I guess that makes me an agnostic now.

  • oh yeah so we should believe you could do a better job. LOLLOLLOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

  • Actually, I could not. I'm a baritone, not a tenor.

A few years ago, though, I could have SCHOOLED him.

    And I hear no laughing.

  • i was thinking the same thing :P

  • Are they playing 'Shook Me All Night Long' in the background there?:)

  • in the POD commentary he said he's gnostic

  • Jack Black is Jewish. I wish I was there then too.

  • Me too, though I'll actually be seeing a performance of it at my city's Philharmonic this Saturday night!

Does anyone have a link or something to a video of Black's performance of Herod's song? I would have liked to hear him singing it.

  • jesus looks like frank zappa

  • It's Ted Neeley, he starred in famous Jesus Christ Superstar rock opera '73.

  • Lmfao... Does it matter if he's atheist or he is not? He could play this fuckin herod even if he was fuckin satanist -.-

  • I'am confused... I thought Jack Black was an atheist?

  • And? I'm an Athiest, but that doesn't mean that I can't like Jesus Christ Superstar. One doesn't necessarily have to believe something in order to act in a play of it. To many athiests, myself included, this is just another story. The fact that it was written off a story in the bible doesn't enter into it.

  • I don't imagine Brad Pitt believes in Zeus either, but it didn't stop him taking part in Troy.

  • u r exactly right my friend

  • Atheists would probably read the bible too, if it were an interesting enough :P

  • Reading the Bible is what made me an atheist.

  • lol

  • yep, that's what happened to me, too.

  • I peaked at the ending, and it ruined the whole book. :(

  • Murray Head was the original judas

if you hear the original recording of jesus christ superstar, before it was actually a show, it is much more powerful

  • he died in 2002!!!!!actually!!! thats about six years ago!!!!

  • Wish I'd been there

  • WTF? I didn't...know.

  • Do you have any more, sir?

  • Gesù ahaha fortissimo ....Complimenti al Musical...

  • I saw him on his farewell tour, but not with Jack Black. Does every show have different actors?

  • This was a one night event, reuniting most of the movie cast, although Carl Anderson wasn't there, instead Ben Vereen, the original broadway Judas played the part. In the ted neeley tour, he is the only original cast member movie or broadway on the tour.

  • Wow that would have been something to see. I'm sad he's not touring anymore. :/

  • Ben Vereen? yeah, that would have been cool.

Does anyone know who Jack Black played?

  • King herod.

  • yeah, I looked at the video, saw his costume, and guessed that, but thanks.

  • off course, king herod!

  • carl anderson has passed on. Died about 8 or 9 years ago. very sad. He was so talented!

  • yeah, too bad. He was on a national tour himself in the mid 90's. Got too sick during the tour, and was replaced.

  • really...

  • Man I would have loved to seen this show, To have not only the people from the movie like Neeley, Dennan and Ellman, but Ben Vereen and Jack Black. Thats awsome

  • where can i see the whole thing!?!?!?

  • where can i see this whole performance?

  • Ted Neely (Jesus) is my hero! Such a fantastic voice!

  • I went to see Neeley as Jesus in Superstar. He signed my program and everything! It was awesome.

  • Jack Black as Pontius Pilate? I'd like to have seen that.

  • Jack Black as Herod, not Pilate.

  • Pontius Pilot?

  • This is from the goodbye tour for Ted and i had the privilage to see it.Althought i wish i could of seen Jack black in it lol.

  • goodbye tour?did he die?

  • No, he just isn't doing Jesus Christ... Anymore.

  • But he did. I saw him last night. Great show.

  • yeah i'm seeing him in a few weeks

    SO EXCITED!

  • I WISH I SAW THIS PERFORMANCE!!!

  • ...What is the history behind this moment? I also recognize Larry, next to Jack Black...wasn't he understudy to Ted's "Jesus" for years? This must have been an awesome event! Can't help but miss Carl's face on that stage. Thanks for the video I will pass it along to fans of JCS and maybe I will get a bit of feedback on the history of this night.

  • Do you have the rest of the performance? Final bows don't count for much.

  • you fucking duche nozel, don't tempt people with a good video and give us the bows. god damn you. go home and open up a couple of veins.

  • Too bad Carl Anderson wasn't there! I did see him in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar before he passed away though. He was AMAZING!

  • Didn't you know that Carl Anderson is already dead?

  • Are you asking me if I knew? Uh, yes of course I knew. If you didn't notice, I wrote that I saw him in a production BEFORE he PASSED AWAY. And I was saying that it's sad he couldn't be a part of this event where mostly everyone from the film reprised their roles. Make sense now?

  • yes of course sorry

  • Ted Neeley isn't 66. He was born in 1943, don't make him older than he is!!

  • that is soo cool

  • My god....ted is so old..well..is shocking to see him young and fresh in the movie and wacthcing now..so old and but....that creappy hear.. WE LOVE YOU ANYWAY TED...You're Superstar forever!!

  • I WISH I was there to see THAT show!

  • It would be amazing to see those 3 reprise their film roles!!! and I just saw Ted...GOO AS EVER! OMG! Got to have it! Anyone know if it is available?

  • NeeleyOnTheRoad. com - Ted's Official Website NEW!

  • thank you so much for the info

  • what the hell is this? how are you all so interested? why do you want to see the whole thing so bad? why do you all talk like this is something i should know about? wtf somebody tell me!

  • It's the bows of a performance of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. Apparently this was a performance that happened only once. Add upon that that 3 actors are people who performed the show either on broadway or in the movie during the 70s. Plus Jack Black was also a part of it.

  • Oh I would absolutely love to hear Jack Black sing Herod's song. That part is tailor made for his voice and persona.

  • AGREED. I would kill to see his scene!

and as for everyone saying Ted is so old, well, he's 66. Thats sorta old.

  • Jack looks fat and Ted look old. Sad, but I would sure want to see the whole thing

  • i've never seen ben actually perform as judas...

  • and Ted Neely as Jesus? Ben Vereen as Judas.. WOW!

  • That's also Yvonne and Barry Dennen. This must be the farewell tour. I'm seeing it on the 19th :-D

  • Please say this will air on tv or be sold on DVD. Surly they knew how historic this was and recorded it! At the very least I hope someone out there has a copy I can get.

  • shit i wanna see the whole thing

  • Jack Black + Ten Neely?! Assgasm. Seriously, I gotta get a hold of a copy of this show.

  • Man, I really hope I will get to see Jack Black singing as King Herod one day.

  • I have stuff to trade. Do you have the full video?

  • CRAP. I was hoping this video was of Jack's performance. Thanks for putting it up, but I got so bummed out. Would you happen to have video of Herod's song?
