  • Yes it's the Benny Hill Show!!!!

  • The original 'reflecting' identity was designed by Minale Tattersfield in the late 1960's. They also designed the Harrods logo, Hammersmith Tube Station, the Imperial War Museum branding, Oval etc.

  • I've watched this so many times now that the word "Thames" is beginning to look rather odd.

  • 2010 not 1992

  • The loss of Thames was the start of the decline of ITV.

  • The last theme was shit. Don't remember that one. The one I remember was the second from last one.

  • @flares It was partially based on the 21st anniversary logo which is missing from this collection. Wasn't keen on that one either. I hardly ever watch TV nowadays because there's nobody left making good shows anymore. The "Carltonisation" of ITV, the budget restrictions on BBC and the various other channels, not to mention the fragmentation of content by too many channels just doesn't appeal to me.

As the song went; "you don't know what you got 'til it's gone"

  • A time when TV had it all: value, meaning, entertainment and whole lot more.

    Damn you 2000s!

  • I remember on TV was to be Benny Hill, Count Duckula and Mr. Bean has always been the entrance to the Thames.

  • The colour one they used for ages was win.

  • The last one sucked

  • The fourth one is definitely the best, 'cos adding color worked. The fifth (last) one is pompous, and overblown.

  • The first one in color is one on saw in European History class last year on a video from the '70s of World War II.

  • Sorry, I should explain that I mean the music. Salute To Thames.

  • Do you have the full version of this??

I always remember that just once in a while Thames would play the full version. Don't know why, maybe because of an early finishing program.

  • You forgot the 21st anniversary ident.

  • I miss the old Thames. BRING IT BACK!!!

  • @Anabella1974 I never even understood what happened to them I'm from the USA so I don't know what happened to Thames Television but I know that some television shows aren't always from America.

  • I want this for a ringtone!

  • @usenetposts So do I

  • Dislike The last one a lot... The fourth one brings back memories (Benny Hill), I actually like third one (the last B&W) the best because the bottom half actually looks like a water reflection. Just my opinion.

  • shut it hafsol, i didnt search for it you cunt

  • @ALFFIE167 why did you search for it on youtube then ?

  • Becaue your mum asked me to.

  • This logo used to scare me with the fanfare, but it still looks fine.

  • The Thames ident used to scare me as a kid and as a teenager! How could TV companies do that to kids in those days?

  • anyone remember that when it was goin to be a slightly scary or spooky programme, the thames logo would be a nightime scene instead of daytime? anyone? or am i just jerkin off?

  • @WARNSKI

Yeah, scared the shit out of me too, old chap. Though to be fair, I was only about 6 at the time and the creepy music they added to the ident sure didn't help either.

  • I can't have been the only '70s northern kid who thought it was an actual view of London, not a montage!

  • ALSO START IN COUNT DUCKULA

  • I hate the new one. Talk about monkeying with a well known brand. There are so many ways that could have included the essence of the originals. Btw Lewisthecollard is a funny bastard!

  • looks scary ! lol

    its so old

  • When, like me, you're French and grew up in the 70s/80s, to you the Thames indent means: it's 8.00pm on Sunday night and Benny Hill is coming to channel 3. It was the only TV show my parents would let me watch after 7.00pm (my mum was a nutcase telephobic). At 8.30pm, right after Benny Hill, we had to go to bed. I loved those Sunday nights watching the crazy skits of our cousins from across the Channel...

  • Hot diggity dog, that last one is the shiznizzle!

  • LOL, i remember none of those idents but the last two.

And the last one is like

HOLY FUCK THAMES TV THIS IS FUCKING THAMES TV

COME AND WATCH FUCKING THAMES TV HOLY FUCK THERE'S LIKE BIG BEN AND SHIT ARE YOU FUCKING WATCHING US YET

    in comparison to the others..

  • Always liked that trumpet in the older idents. not familar or crazy about the revolving full orchestra one. I guess no programes from that id's era had been imported here, I do see the carlton thing at the end of shows. so that's what replaced thames. eew.

  • The last one is shit. They would never have got away with that one if pre-programme idents had still been in place!!!

  • Still, I hasten to add: compared to what we have *now* on ITV (or ITV1 if we must call it so), that last ident is a classic!!

  • Well like I said on a previous video, even if pre programme idents stayed, there would be no way they would have kept the classic Thames skyline ident. Around this time, stations like Central, TVS and Anglia were using very good computer generated effects on there idents.

It's like saying that they should have kept the Anglia knight in the 90's. A classic ident it was, but never would have got into the 90's.

Maybe they could have put a bit more action in the last one.

  • You left out the nighttime variant.

  • That was only used for the late 70s/80s Armchair Theatre series. Look up "Quiet As A Nun" for the most infamous use.

  • Wow i become 10 years old again when i hear that, all excited to see count duckula!

  • "Yes, it's the Benny Hill Show!"

  • That reminds me a Count Duckula!

  • Is there a single person on earth who's glad that Carlton beat Thames to the 1992 franchise? If there is he should probably go and live in a cave somewhere until he sorts himself out.

  • There is one person.

    Michael Green.

  • I said person, not scumbag ;)

  • Good point, well made. :D

  • Thames Television was a class act, in effect, it carried ITV and when it got ousted by the dreadful Carlton in the early 1990's, ITV became a shadow of its former self. Look at ITV today, surviving on soaps and X Factor. It needs Thames Television and its creativity more than ever and I say that as a BBC fan.

  • Many of the TV shows shown here in New Zealand when I was a kid had that ident ending...

  • Those idents were normally shown at the start of the programme in the UK

  • Maybe they were at the beginning and not the end of shows over here too? So many years ago.....

  • MUST SEE; favourited!

  • The Thames idents were some of the best of all the ITV ones over the years. It makes me rather sad that they lost their franchise in 1992/93 to the terrible Carlton, which was the start of what is now ITV1 going downhill.

Also, to answer the point raised by disremembrance, the Thames skyline ident was on air for 20 years no less, from 1969 until 1989. It must indeed be one of the longest shown idents that any channel has had!

  • The ATV 'eye' ident ran from 1956 to 1981.

  • takes me back to my childhood

  • big Danger Mouse fan?

  • yeah

  • Very nice video.

Everytime I hear the old Thames music, I think of the beginning of the Benny Hill show where a bunch of ladies start to laugh in the audience.

    Signature Starting :-)

  • The Last one came in when Thames lost its franchise.

It wanted to show it was still strong therefore ditching the skyline ident.

Shows you TV Companies were passionate back then and how ITV has changed to the rubbish it is today

  • I remember Count Duckula! ahh man, that was almost 30 years ago.

  • The last one is so crap... The classic colour 'skyline' ident is the best. Some might say they used it for too long (nearly 20 years), but the reason they kept it all that time is because it was bloody good!!! I think it must be the longest-running ITV ident ever? Correct me if I'm wrong!

  • Is it true this logo's name is pronounced TIMS?

  • More like TEMMS.

Named after the river through London.

  • Thanks for the info,I was pronouncing it Tames, like Tame A Lion.Temms, thanks.

  • man this takes me back, who remembers the cartoon "count duckula"?

  • the CG one is not scary... so, it's no good...

  • Why take thames away?

it was a key thing on tv back then

  • u forgot the thames XII ident

  • All good apart from the last one...think they tried too hard with it!!!!!!!!!!

  • iTS FAB AND GROOVY

  • this is shit why take thames away

  • Thatcher's fault
