I have a Squier Affinity that I bought sight unseen on ebay and yes I agree it's pretty good. Looks and sounds like a strat. The only down side is the body is slightly thinner than standard strats so upgrading the tremolo block is harder to sort out....rather, it means leaving he cover on the back of the body off, so that the trem block sticks out a bit. I also have a Strat bullet I found in a shed!...and it's really great to play...and yes, I've owned a 70's USA strat too!
@urbanlaxa27 Are you talking about the guitar or from the amp? The guitar just delivers this sound naturally. I've got no booster pedals or anything, I'm just using the simulated amps in the Behringer head, and it's an amp I really love, especially for the price. If you want to improve your tone from this guitar you could consider raising the pickup height to increase the output (but not too much), or buy a new amp or pedal!
I like reviews with a sound demo, but your guitar sounds better then the stock one because of the fender pickups, so just keep in mind that when you buy it it comes with standard ceramic pickups. If somebody is looking for a nice stock sound he should look for the Squier Classic Vibe.
@ATC15C Hmm, well the thing is that I never actually upgraded the pickups in this guitar. I only put that in the video because I was selling it to a bit of a guitar snob and wanted to see if he thought it sounded better if I told him it had better pickups, which he did! These are just the stock Squier ones and I think they actually produce a pretty good sound. I think it's interesting how easy it is to hear things good or bad depending on what you want to hear. Thanks for watching :)
@malagutial Yes, psychoacoustic... I belive that its not what the pickups are made of that make them special, bus the compinaison of resistance, impedance and magnetisim. So I hope you got a good price for it, your video is not bad!
Right Dude. I absolutely agree your point of view. I have an Affinity Strat too and it surprised me and a lot of other person many times. Great instrument for that price.
@Lavabug In comparison to my Jackson, yes, but in comparison to a Les Paul, no. I find it very comfortable. I'd say it's just a simple C shape really. You should try my 8 string, now THAT is a fat neck :)
@TheZombified316 I've answered this question too many times now.... So; 'The reason I left these untrimmed was because I had arranged to sell the guitar and I wanted to use a set of 10's for the video, but the person I was selling it to wanted 9's. So I thought rather than waste a good set of 10's that will just be removed from the guitar when it's sold, I'd string it with 10's but not trim them so I could take them off and put them on another guitar after the video.'
@malagutial thanks so much ive actuaaly seen this alot i thought maybe it was a fender thing lol im a new guitar guy and are getting one for christmas merry christmas :)
@malagutial hey one more question does the one your using have sing coil pick ups or or a humbucker i want to play like guns n roses and metal like disturbed will it do good stock like no ad ons for these things?
a piece of crap guitar, 40.5mm wide at the nut, wtf is up with that, and the action straight from the factory is totally worthless, the only thing that would do this guitar right is a real adjustment that cost about 100 dollars and thats pretty much what the whole guitar is worth, wo i say it again, a total piece of crap
@gumme88 For £100 it plays better than any other guitar in it's price range, and there's no way your comments are fair. I own a USA Strat and don't like to admit it, but it's very similar to this guitar. Your prejudice is clearly built from a bad experience or a dislike for somebody else who owns this guitar.
You have one video uploaded which is of fishing. Your opinion is invalid.
P.S. If you don't know how to adjust the action of your guitar, you have no right to watch guitar related videos.
The extra strings hanging out of the tuners is very dangerous!! Those strings could draw lighning during a storm or find their way into a wall socket or even poke your retina out! Please be safe
Loved the review cheers for that but I must say you've got to cut those end strings of it takes about 2cm of string to tune to standard from completely out of tune so yeah cut them of. :)
@hongdekong If you read a few comments down you'd see that I already say why I didn't cut the ends off the strings. I'm not an idiot, there was a fair reason for it and I normally do remove them. Thanks for watching anyway!
@crysisman555 The song is called 'The Count of Tuscany' by Dream Theater. It's incredible, but 20 minutes long! Amazing band, my favourite, check them out if you haven't already. YouTube won't let me post links as comments but if you google search 'Count of Tuscany tab' you'll find one. Alternatively there's a great guitar pro tab if you have the software, search 'Count of Tuscany guitar pro tab' and download it. Good luck and thanks for watching!
@malagutial hey im thinking about buying a stratocaster but i have a question.. whats the difference between a fat stratocaster and a normal? and which one is better..
@nextpage10 a fat strat has a bridge humbucker and a normal strat has 3 single coils. Neither are better, they're just different. If you play hard rock or metal, the fat strat would be better.
How much of a difference did the Fender pickups make? I'm looking to buy a new guitar, I'm still a relative beginner but I want a decent quaity guitar, I've been fooled in the past by apparent bargain beginner guitars- with the standard pickups is an Affinity Strat really that high a quality guitar?
@MrPoppa2 Haha, that's a fair point! The reason I left these untrimmed was because I had arranged to sell the guitar and I wanted to use a set of 10's for the video, but the person I was selling it to wanted 9's. So I thought rather than waste a good set of 10's that will just be removed from the guitar when it's sold, I'd string it with 10's but not trim them so I could take them off and put them on another guitar after the video. Thanks for the compliment too! And also the sub I think :)
@1995jsn Well personally I think that almost the defining characteristic of a strat is it's single coil pickups... If you're going for an Superstrat I'd recommend looking at another brand first since you'll get a more developed guitar for your money. I think that if my Strat had a humbucker I would either put in a coil tap (which splits it into a single coil with switch) or I'd sell it. The characteristic tone of a strat comes from its bridge and neck single coil pickups in my opinion.
Everyone hates on Squier... I say that it's not really the instrument but the player, and you just proved that. In the right hands, even a cheap instrument will sound like hot shit.

@subulion Thanks for the comment :) I recommend the standard if I'm honest. There are not enough differences in the guitar's build quality or performance to justify the higher cost of the special. I have a USA special now and I only bought it as the price was very good but had it been regular price then I'd have happily gone for the standard as the difference is tiny.

Im supposed to purchase this guitar in about a weeks time, and Im glad i found your vid! Very informative, and you played beautifully! But would you suggest this for a new guitar player looking to play metal?
@CK9041 As a strat it's best for rock/blues and although I think it handles high gain extremely well, if you're sure that you want to do metal then this guitar is probably not for you. If you're a new player I'd recommend not deciding 1 style so early, keep your options open and this is an amazing guitar all round. If you really want to only do metal then look at low end Jacksons or ESPs. Really, anything with a high output humbucker pickup will do metal quite well, depending on your amp.
