Wow, I went on a C-5 Galaxy with someone I know who is a flight engineer on one - They are amazingly huge. You can fit like 6-7 greyhound buses comfortably in the cargo area.

Well - not so much!!!

Air Force One is simply the airplane that a sitting president is traveling in at the moment!!! The Air Force has 2 identical planes for the President 27000 and 28000 - (both are Boeing 747's) that he travels in - the one the president is in is ALWAYS renamed "Air Force One" when it takes off - and ONLY if the President is aboard.

The inverse is also true. When Nixon traveled from Washington DC to California AFTER resigning - he took off at 11:00AM in Air Force One - and at 12:00Noon - when his resignation went into effect - the plane was renamed from "Air Force One" to 28000 - because he was no longer a sitting president!!!

You are correct, but Former presidents get Air Force 1 also.

No they don't - Air Force One is a designation ONLY for a sitting president. When Nixon resigned he left Washington DC at 11:00AM and when they were 1 hour into his flight to California - they requested re-designation - as 68000. It was no longer Air Force One - because at noon - Nixon was no longer the president - Ford was. So the plane Nixon was in was NO LONGER AIr Force One - it was 68000!!!

is nomenclatured as AF-001. A ( Sitting ) Vice-President OR Senator is nomenclatured as AF-002. All others are nomenclatured or referenced by Tail-Number OR assigned AF Mission Number designation.

I wouldn't call it the Boeing pelican, I would call it the Popular Mechanics Pelican... you can never trust anything thats in that magazine... it's a tabloid for technology. And McDonald Douglas will never make a MD-12... why? Boeing bought McDonald Douglas a few years ago, now MD does not exist anymore.

Sorry but i highly doubt that Mcdonnel Douglas would even Make a MD12 they probably don`t even have the money right now to make it plus the aircraft would just be another disaster like the A380 taking up so much room and costing so much money.
