You are just an awesome man, I find myself faced with this everyday. One of my friends has a very narrow view and says the same things about women and men. He thinks that women are not allowed to lead a household because men are the headship of Christ. I am a christian but also don't believe in this kind of crap. Without women stepping out of this we wouldn't have Amelia Earhart, or other females who took charge. and purity balls are creepy. >.<
The Apostle Paul has got to be one of the most sexist church leaders that I've ever heard of. He claims that men are ordained by God to be the head because Adam was created first and women are supposed to be silent because Eve was the one deceived by Satan, thereby responsible for the fall.
Good point. I think it becomes voluntary because of its supposed acceptability inferred by their social norms. When you're taught to use the Bible as the established premise, I don't think they question verses like those found in Corinthians 11 and 13.
Exactly! When I do get a chance to speak openly with theist women, this is the very thing I most often bring to light. It's also one of the many things in the bible that really disgusted me as a woman when I first began really reading the bible.
I don't know how to answer your question, because the women I've talked to rationalize misogynistic scriptures. It's willful ignorance to me for the simple fact that it's in black and white what the abrahamic religion think of women.
