That was his testimony. Its sort of funny, but it makes an impression when you think about it. This old guy, who apparently has no life whatsoever, has perhaps more to be thankful for than anyone on the film. Nobody else could say that they have been struck by lightening. His last recorded words were, "But you know the lord keeps reminded me I'm lucky to be alive at all".
Gah.. I hate people. 1: tending to cows, 2: fixing roof, 3: truck, 4: sitting next to the tugboat, 5: in the hotel, 6: in the bathroom, and 7!!! At the beginning of the movie! Benjamin says "some people are born to get struck by lightning.", Thats him leaning on the fence, when he is young. That is 7. He wouldn't say "I was struck by lightning 7 times," if he hasn't yet been struck 7 times...
What I'm thinking is that he only got struck by lightning six times. He tells Benjamin he's been struck by lightning seven times, because he feels that his 'time' is almost up, meaning that he dies by getting struck by lighting for the seventh time. He (obviously) won't be able to tell people about the seventh time, but he tells people this anyway. He's just anticipating the last one, hence him noticing the storm as if it's coming for Him ESPECIALLY...
@jmcieslak0 He recalls 6 lightning strikes, the 7th one is what kills him later. the movie alludes to it after he recalls the 6th time; he mentions there are storm clouds coming. So you never hear about the 7th one because he is not alive to talk about it.
