I have to say that this is the first legitimate classic rock song that I have heard that was made after 2000. Not to say there haven't been others, I guess I just haven't heard them. This actually sounds like it was made in the 70's. Great! Amazing! I wasn't even much of a Tom Petty fan, but I am now!
I'm only sixteen and I've lived my whole life loving Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Unlike the kids of my generation, I have an appreciation for good music. I've seen these guys play twice and each time it's been phenomenal. 6/5/08 and 7/31/10 both in Philly.
Man This is what I Call ROCK-N-ROLL,Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is one of the Most Underrated Bands of all time,This Album proves it. I have been listening to thier music for 30yrs+ and i have to say this was one of the Best Albums they have ever made it has so many different Sounds from Blues to Rock to Reggae it has something for everyone ,I love It!!! Keep on Rockin!!!
GUYS. STOP SAYING THAT THIS SONG SOUNDS LIKE LED ZEPPELIN, OR THIS SONG SOUNDS LIKE THE BEATLES, OR THAT SONG SOUNDS LIKE B.B. KING, OR FLEETWOOD MAC!
@HarlowJewelryCFBD yes well, this is not a normal tom petty song, and it sounds a lot more like said artists, so while your tom petty pride is noted, your lack of musical inclination is also. stick to jewelry.
@dannoj98 Mojo is a new venue for Tom. Like Jeff said who wants to keep doing the same old thing. It get old quick. Like eating the same meal day after day after day. The entire MOJO albums is rootsy, soul, rhythm, blues, country, rock, pop. Yeah he combined alot of it together. I love that he constantly comes out with great new stuff. I hadn't heard the TW as it was buried until 2007, when it got re-released, nor had I heard "Saving Grace" from 5 years ago. I'm still catching up & loving it.
@tacokitty100 I'm not sure I get your question. But if you are asking about the TW being buried until 2007. They made the album it was released in 1988/89, won a grammy, then was shelved until copyright ran out & it was released to George Harrison (don't remember exact year) where it got locked away &was re-released in 2007. So if you didn't buy the Album back in 1988/89 it was unavailable for purchase until 2007. That's what I read on Wiki, why this wonderful music was lost for awhile.
saw Petty this weekend in concert at Verizon Ampitheatre in OC, the last one of the tour.....they played this new song........god! AWESOME!!!!! See thim live!!! Ya just gotta!
@Lrpesme48 It is an older Fleetwood Mac song, it is from before Lindsey Buckingham/Stevie Nicks. Peter Green was the original guitaristt/singer in FM. He wrote "Oh Well" and "Black Magic Woman"
very smooth imagery, TP and directors to be congratulated! dig the message, the intent, and the possibilities. Keep on Keepin On, Brothers in Arms! ;) Mj in Atlanta, GA ~
Seen him sing this twice in the past couple months. In Vancouver and Seattle. October I'm heading to LA to see his final Mojo show. Can't help myself, he is my Elvis! My lil boy loves this song, plays it over and over while playing air guitar. Gotta put a real guitar in those lil fingers ;)
Campbell rocking some "Since I've been loving you" Jimmy Page-esque licks!!! I'm 17 and unlike most kids from my gen, I understand the greatness of the heartbreakers. Gonna see my first Petty show in September :D!!!!!
@seaniobhar You're right. But it all depends on what you call good music @_@ I only mentioned the Heartbreakers and in that case we're the minority. But Im glad you know that I know that YOU listen to good music xD
@seaniobhar yes, it isnt uncommon, but niether is our generation listening to people using computers to repeat the same 5 vulgar words over and over with a half-decent beat behind it
@bishopambrose Not to pull you away from TP&HB but you would probably like Chris Rea. Listen to Road to Hell, Stoney Road, Looking For the Summer, You Can Go your Own Way, just to name a few. Of course theirs always the great Buddy Miller, Water When the Well is Dry, All My Tears, Worry To Much. Also I recent (thanks to Prof. Brian Cox) discovered DARE. Kiss the Rain, Deliverance, Belief, Last Train, We Don't Need a Reason, to name but a few of their many greats. Richard Marx still my main man
Since I am an Oldie an I haven't forgotten ya , Lemme just say Ya have never let me down Yet and this is no exception to the record . Nice counterpoint
tom could have retired back in 1970 and here he is still putting out great music. that is a true artist. never does it for money. he just loves to make music. what a human..
To HairMetalfreak24. Are you out of you mind. Have you ever heard of Full Moon Fever...By Tom Petty...Hence no ...Heart Breakers. That was Tom Pettys (single) Tom Petty is Not Unknown, He not forgotten. All music associated with him will run forever. You know what he is, I will tell you he's a money grabbing piece of shit. I don't know what happen but this guy would play every Amphitheater selling them out like no tomorrow. Petty stopped that all of a sudden. Don't tell me old age.
Not merely "Good Enough" but _outstanding_. I've always been a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fan, tho I have only the Full Moon Fever album--yikes, CD.
I'm probably in disagreement with Dazzlewave on this point, but Tom Petty's live-recorded concert music has always sounded very close to the studio-produced music, suggesting little studio processing/production. But I've heard little of Petty's more recent work since FMF.
@ABCCATTX You know what? I read an interview with Tom Petty and he said that MOJO was recorded with almost 0 production. In other words the band just played the songs and recorded them. Almost all the solos and vocals were recorded live.
So Good to hear NEW REAL MUSIC! Instead of some idiot rapping or some bimbette acting like a whore!!! Kids nowadays need older people like us to teach them that music is about singing, playing instruments, composing, being in a band!
Excellent!!! Now THIS is the album I've been waiting for from these guys for a long, long time. It sounds raw...honest...and thank God the overproduction is gone! I love Jeff Lynne but aside from Full Moon Fever, he took away the soul of what makes a great Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album. This should put these guys back on the map -- and hell yes -- Mike Campbell RULES!!!
I've been saying it for years. He's always been one of my favorite guitarists. WAY overrated and overlooked!
I just heart it on the radio here (Belgium) and WOOOOWWW! This is blues!! Reminds me a bit of one of one of the blues songs ever made: Since I've been loving you.
Can't wait till the Hollywood Bowl concert, I just ordered a clothing item to go with something I already have, which sold out at Nordstrom, and I am gonna bring little throw blankets in case it gets cold. Now I have a decent outfit to wear to go to a fabulous concert.
if i leave here tomorrow would you still remember me? for i must be travelling on now, and there's too many places i've got to see.. and this bird you cannot change
I've seen and heard Mike Campbell play this many times with the Dirty Knobs...his play band. Sounds even better here... what magic. Look up the Dirty Knobs and you will find lots of video of some really organic Mike Campbell.
i really like the mix between the southern rock stlye of the song and the way that mike plays the guitar like a seasoned jazz guitarist. awesome i really hope the rest of the alblum is as equally great which im certain will not dissapoint. cant wait till the summer tour guys--- ill be seeing you hopefully 5 times and if you do read this my face would melt if you played rebels at darien lake.... thatks alot for all the great music over the many years and the many good times ive had at the shows.
Like a good band does, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers continue to re- invent their sound. Can't wait for the show in Boston, i'm driving all the way from Cape Breton Island for it. Going to be worth every mile !!
@kintailfarms I'll be there too, at the Saturday show. Should be an awesome show. Have seen him 3 times already. (First time was when he backed Dylan in 86). This time I'm taking my 10 year old daughter who is a huge fan of TP and his alter ego Spike Wilbury.
Oh my gosh, Tom Petty did it, new music. We needed new music. Tom has all the imagery to make it, and I have been waiting for new music, and especially the blues since I dig Eric Clapton. Betcha Eric Clapton will be performing this tune in the near future. Eee ha!!!!! Finally Tom, NEW MUSIC.
Those of us who know, know. I hit 40 this year and I've listened to a lot of music in my life. Tom is one of the few musicians who have always been with me. Time has not blunted what he can do. He just gets better and better. My wife is going to get soooo sick of this album when it comes out :)
@spirituslibertatis Yeah, God Bless this Whiskey, God Bless this land, so trippy. (and God bless this buzz I got on today. Eee hah... I threw that one in.)
@Tastycakes69 Ha Ha! thats what this song reminds me of!! I just heard it on the radio and I was like! This sounds like the beatles! then I heard Tom Petty singing and I was like WOW!! THis is amaing! But this song totally reminds me of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" the guitar!! just sounds like that song!
@tumamasango Very True. Usually if you're part of a band with a name like "Tom Petty and the Hearbreakers" or "Joan Jett and the Blackhearts" or "Huey Luis and The News" the other people are forgotten because the singer has an elevated status because it seems like it is his/her band based on the name.
@tumamasango This whole album has some of the most drop dead gorgeous guitar work....I have always oved Campbell's melody lines and subtle phrases....NOW, he has been front and center...where he deserves to be
i am proud to say i am going to two different petty concerts at two different venues in 4 days how does that sound for a weekend??? june 8th and 12th wooooooo
gotta love it....... oh and joe cocker wont be bad for an opener..... lol
I love the song MOJO. So much soul and blues. Just hits the spot. Also, I think the concert you get for the price is just fine. It is a magical experience and the boys can sure Rock On!! They are the best, bar none. Can't wait for Edmonton.
tom petty and the heartbreakers after all these years wow ROCK ON. :) Time to add another cd to the collection, I had them all now I am short one until spring 2010
everyone should check out my cover of this song. :)

This song makes me feel high, it has MOJO and I am getting a contact high from this song. If I close my eyes, I can see the story.

I must say, I love the song. The lyrics, voice, guitar are just awesome. It's a realy good song, something that I havent seen in a long time.

Those of us who know, know. I hit 40 this year and I've listened to a lot of music in my life. Tom is one of the few musicians who have always been with me. Time has not blunted what he can do. He just gets better and better. My wife is going to get soooo sick of this album when it comes out :)

Campell IS the most underappreciated guitarist in rock history. Look at the entire catalog. Its amazing he doesnt get more recognition.

@tumamasango Dude, you are RIGHT ON!!!!!!! I would take him over Jimmy Page (who he sort of resembles nowadays) any day of the week.

@tumamasango Damn straight, my man. Thought I was the only one who felt that way.....

@tumamasango quite possibly the best comment that can be made about the subject

@tumamasango This whole album has some of the most drop dead gorgeous guitar work....I have always oved Campbell's melody lines and subtle phrases....NOW, he has been front and center...where he deserves to be
bluesinduluth 1 year ago 2
@tumamasango You're absolutely right. The guitar solo in this song is the most amazing one I've heard for ages.

I love the song MOJO. So much soul and blues. Just hits the spot. Also, I think the concert you get for the price is just fine. It is a magical experience and the boys can sure Rock On!! They are the best, bar none. Can't wait for Edmonton.
