  • I will NEVER be able to grasp how the fuck this was taken seriously in China. I've studied the language and the culture for 4 years, but for the life of me, what the fuck is this?

  • peking opera is a beautiful medium. it is very different what what you see in western culture but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. you can see the emotions that the actress goes through. it's beautiful and unique. it's not for everyone, true, but don't say it's bad because you don't understand it.

  • this is scary

  • OMG I CAN'T HELP MYSELF FROM DANCING HARD TO DIS BEAT

  • Men (in blue) is a mortal, women (in white) is a snake who became a semi-god and can transform to human, she's also the men's wife after transformation.

    Men : Honey! Help Me!

Women: What! How dare you try to ask my help!

    M: (Nodding) showing consent

W: U..U..U..U hurt me so much.

U deceived me to drink Xiong Huang (a medicine that can make snake die, in this case, transform her back to the snake) on the Duan Yang Festival.

How dare! How dare you deceive me!

  • @MegaNicholasWright is only because u r too stupid to understand and appreciate. feel sooooooo sorry for u!

  • @MegaNicholasWright opera is sopposed to sound alot better than this , this one sounds terrible because the woman is played by a man

  • @phynixchen it has to be played by a man because during the cultural revolution woman were banned from theatre

  • @Vchick1 yeah it was , for centuries the roles were all played by men, but still most sound better than this even if it is a man

  • you know i guess it's a great art form and hard to perform, but it sounds fucking awful

  • So many ignorant posters. It is an art and as foreign as it might be to your eyes, it is a highly stylized and developed art that has been around since the 18th century.

  • @4blossoms Nope, I'm a chinese guy, and I don't like it either.

  • Hinese food is better than Chinese singing.

  • AHHAHHAHAHAAHAHHHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAH

  • @samuelyanuc Traditionally, yes. But I think these days there are women too.

  • My music teacher wants me to listen to music from the wider world.

After seeing this I think I' ll just go back to the old Wagner and Puccini.

  • lol

  • LOL!.. Best.video.ever.

  • Can anyone tell me wtf is going on????

  • @chocolatedonut31

The followings might be what this part is about:

The wife (lady in white) is a white snake in human form. The husband (in dark blue with long sleeves) betrays his wife.

He sold her out to the monk, probably because he is too afraid.

  • ALIENSSSSSS !!

  • what did he do...? eat the last bowl of honeypuffs?

  • I thought Whitesnake was an 80s band. They must have really let themselves go...

  • @MARIOFREAK821

The "Tale of the White Snake" (Chinese: 白蛇传; Bai She Zhuan) is a well-known Chinese mythology, and the video is based on this story.

The two lead roles here are the 2 protagonists of the story. In the story, the lady in white is actually a white snake (transforming into human form), so this is what the description is about.

  • @freefleabane It was sarcasm.

  • Ich kann das nicht ernst nehmen. Sorry.

  • @kazeXhime

? Was kannst du nicht ernst nehmen ?

  • @filmauge16zu9

Ich meine, ich kann mir da durch diesen...Gesang... keine ernsthafte Geschichte hineindenken.

    operaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • One of my life goals is to see an opera like this in person.

Even if the singing and even just the speech is harsh on the ears at first, as an artist I've fallen in love with the make-up and costumes alone~ I'd die to be able to go backstage and watch everything get put together

  • Terribleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i also love the story of white snake lady. i've never seen the opera all the way through sadly. :(

  • Very good rendition of "Everything's Comin' Up Roses."

  • This somewhat funny to the ears, but for the eyes it is quite the feast... very pretty~

  • I love the opera in this country and the hard work they put into it. Jackie Chan had his start in Chinese Opera

  • Guess I'm too western to appreciate this music. :(

To me this sounds about as entertaining as if you threw a bag of cats into a giant pile of bubble wrap. :(

  • @Yeah10020 That actually sounds really entertaining...and cruel :)

  • LOL

  • loooooooooooooooooool

  • I dont understand it, I am not accustomed to this type of sound and singing but I am willing to try to understand by body language and expression, I see HIM confessing to something horrible. I see HER voicing frustration and hurt. Am I close? lol! I think its captivating and interesting! Xia xia.

  • @stuckIN801 bravo, yes. this opera is about a chinese folktale called The White Snake Lady. This short video talks about the guy confessing that he did evil to his wife(the wife is actually a snake, she wants to shed her evil skin and be a human). The wife was hurt saying that he has no heart and doesn't care about their unborn child.

  • who thinks this is just awesome? !

  • @JubileeMarcus123 Yeah, this is awesome!

  • @JubileeMarcus123

I love it! It's so awesome. Beijing Opera rocks, it's one of the best things in the world!! ^_^

  • @JubileeMarcus123 I've been fascinated by Beijing Opera since the Sixties, when it was completely prohibited and butchered up by Mao Zedong's wife, Jing Qing. There is nothing more theatrical in my opinion.

  • One word: Awesome.

  • This is so wonderful. I'd love to see it for real <3

  • I LIKE I LIKE!!!

  • So ein SCHEISS!!!!!

  • @nikodemus7777 Nicht alle chinesischen Musik ist so schlecht, versuchen, die "Erhu" Zuhören

  • That so called hat is not a hat. as a matter of fact. It symbolizes this lady practices martial art or knowing theurgy. For the Chinese opera, there are many symbols. The audience needs to know the culture per se first.

  • @CHF2003e Correct an error---or knows theurgy.....

  • so beautiful! I would love to see something like this in the Charelston area during Spolato

  • this is scary to mee

  • lol@her hat

  • 張火丁這一段利用了升降調,把情感表達無遺。我認為是極為傑出的一段。

  • lol she wanted to kill him for cheating on her lol.

  • Sorry, maar wat een pokke herrie!

  • MY EARS MY EARS WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY EARRSS!!! AAAAAAHAHHHHH

  • awesome, an interesting culture, I like it

by the way, I was searching opera like this but in mi favorite culture (japanese) can you recomend me one specific, here by youtube? a link, webpage or something?

    greetings

  • Is that really a woman cause i thought Chinese opera were all men

  • I think I was Chinese in a former life because I love this!!!!

  • @kingoskingsboss187 Go die.

  • @kingoskingsboss187 You are the reason so many people around the world hate Westerners, particularly Americans. But hey, I guess a Canadian dumbass like yourself is close enough to an American one.

As for the video, there is definitely some quality of this art form that is often lost on Westerners. I'm American and while I like Chinese music, I'll admit that I think I would have to get much more immersed in the culture to not be a little weirded-out by their opera, but that seems only natural.

  • @JaredHutcheson1

Your reaction is perfectly fine; Beijing opera requires A LOT of acquired taste. Even most modern Chinese people, Taiwanese included (since their culture is more of the traditional Chinese culture that Westerners think of, aka untainted by the Cultural Revolution) don't really get it; it's seen more as an old-timer's thing. Westernization may have to do with it, but it nevertheless is still a part of the cultural Chinese people are proud of.

  • @OaJien

I may not be Chinese but I certainly ADORE Beijing Opera.

  • @JaredHutcheson1 No, its not its terrilbe.

  • Hey how dare you call Canadians Dumbasses. If any one is a dumbass its America *Coughgeorgebushcough*

Free Health Care for the win BITCH!

  • @ManIhTwoLinJay I wasn't. That particular person is a Canadian dumbass and I only said it in the context of worldwide perceptions of Westerners in general, particularly Americans. I wouldn't contest for a second that my own country holds the the world title for Most Dumbasses.

  • @JaredHutcheson1 - Don't waste your time talking to idiots on youtube, dude. Youtube is a bathroom wall. Whatever stupid thought instantly comes to people's minds, they just post it in a heartbeat. The best thing to do is thumbs down them and just be done with it. Otherwise it just spams up the poor video uploader's wall. :(

  • @JaredHutcheson1 NEVER group Canada with the US.

And I would argue that you are also one of the kinds of Americans people hate. The people that are prone to stereotyping an entire culture and then attempt to understand the struggles of another nation by reading a book or watching a video. Enjoy your own culture, let me have mine.

  • @betterthanbonds9 You're being reactionary. I never stereotyped Canada or grouped them with the U.S. except for in the context of us both being "Western". There are people who lump all Westerners together but I think there are probably far more who know enough to not think of all western cultures/nations as they think of America. And as far as stereotyping many of the people in my own country, I make no apology. America is easily the most Orwellian society the world has seen in modern times.

  • @JaredHutcheson1 dont let fuck heads like him ruin your image of Canadians

  • @ThatsWhatMcGuireSaid I actually have a pretty positive perception of Canadians, both from those that I know and from the fact that their country and social programs are run so much better than those of my own country.

  • @JaredHutcheson1 I'm Canadian and I love this don't judge all of us because of one idiot I think this is awesome ! :P

  • @JaredHutcheson1

I'm Chinese Canadian and I think all opera sounds weird, Chinese and European. Though that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the art and history behind it.

  • @RenGader That's exactly what I'm saying. I'm not casting anything on Canadians. Btw, I think European opera is amazing (although I'm basing that on listening to it, not watching it), while Chinese opera is only called such by English-speakers for lack of a better term. It's a completely different form of music,

  • @JaredHutcheson1

Just so everyone knows, not all Canadians are like kinoskingsboss187. Although we do have some retards that cant accept other cultures, 99.9% of Canada is mainly very accepting people that accept people for who they are. F-You kinoskingsboss187. Move to USA.

  • @kingoskingsboss187 Hey, I asked for LARGE fries, fool.

  • Hahahahahaha !!! :') Lmfao

  • This rly isn't very good at all. I don't get it, it's dissonant and chaotic to me. But maybe that's just the theme...
