@mayonaise101010 May 25th 2010 (Bass In The Grass Festival) Darwin, same setlist to all shows in 2010 except Bendigo and Townsville (Bendigo and Townsville got Young Modern Station, the other shows didnt). The only thing notable from the performance was Daniel topless for the majority of the show and after finishing on 'freak' daniel poured gasoline over a cheap LTD guitar and burned it on fire!
So we trade the PRS guitars for the 72' Telecaster? That's a HUGE drop in quality of guitar and quality of tone!!! I guess the days of hard-hitting Silverchair are over. This the same road Pearl Jam and Soundgarden took.
@discofishing I respect your opinion, but having seen all those bands mentioned live, guitars mean nothing, its what the songs mean and how they have transformed over years to mean something else.
@thechaircover I respectfully disagree. Guitars mean a whole lot as far as tone goes. This idea extends to the amps as well. The magic comes from the fingers and the soul, but the ability to drive it home comes from the gear in large part. I've seen Pearl Jam live three times. They play the same Gibsons and Fenders, but switched to vintage amps, which have worse frequency response in addition to not being maintained well. The result is very BAD tone quality.
@thechaircover Are you familiar with guitars and amps at all? Certain genres of music tend to gravitate towards certain gear (generally). Harder hitting is not necessarily metal. STPs first album was pretty hard hitting, but wasn't metal. Silverchair's first album was powerful (especially track 8), but not metal. If I wanted Silverchair to go metal I'd recommend Jackson or Ibanez guitars and Mesa amps.
It's like they've took some acid and never really seem to escape from the effects... They've all turn into annoying homos ... His mind set needs to be 16 again...
BUT, what I didn't like, was the fact that they didn't play most of their old songs live, I mean, it's ok if they were not into the grunge sound anymore, but at least it would have been great to listen to "leave me out", "no association", "nobody came" in 2010 or whatever, just to please the die hard fans, thats why when they released young modern, it kinda felt like a different band, like if they wanted to bury their old sound and image, so, breaking up was definitely the obvious next step.
@thechaircover that would be awesome! I hope they read your comment and think about it for a while, maybe you're right, if they go back to what brought 'em together, that's what can possibly happen...
@elkiquej meh. the old stuff is okay, but the last two albums were incredibly and on a totally different level. i couldn't care less if they had never dug out "leave me out" again, really. it'd be interesting, but they have a few dozen better songs worth playing.
shame they broke up. to me, diorama and young modern are, by miles upon miles upon miles, the best thing anyone's done in the last 30 years or so. even in the last 50, only rivaled by the collective work of the beach boys.
@runnersdialzero333 diorama is an incredible album, my favourite silverchair album so far, my point is that they could have played some of their old songs, I first listened to them when they released freak show and I loved that album, then I bought frogstomp and although the songs were simple and the lyrics... rather bad, I enjoyed it, a lot. I know what you mean when you compare'em to the beach boys, even Van Dyke Parks said that Daniel Johns was the most talented person he has worked with.
This was the obvious next step after young modern. I mean, of course I respect their constant will to change, and I appreciate the way they surprised us everytime a new album was released, they had a freedom that most artists doesnt have, they could actually turn their music into whatever direction they wanted to. They were aware that they would lose fans in the transition, but if that's not real art, then I don't know what it is.
Breakingn up is hard to do but the adevnture of letting all three members achieve their dreams individually. I will look forward to. Silverchair is up there with Midnight Oil Crowded House, INXS for their Ozzie influences. will always be grateful to Daniel for saving my life with a song.
I wish they were not breaking up though...I think if they could allow their minds to get back to their roots...and try to make all of us die hard grunge fans happy - they would be popular again worldwide and love it! Geez...Come on! We were spoiled on what we came to know as Silverchair and they changed but now quitting??? Uggg! Write and record some of the real stuff you were #1 for doing....
Daniel Johns is not freaking dead! You guys just want him to stay exactly the same as he was as a kid...Geez are you still just like you were in the 1990's? Are you? He has a cool attitude...I love it. The music sounds really interesting... Let it be!
What the fuck is that piece of shit !! Daniel Johns we will miss you !! Daniel Johns died in 2003 with Diorama !! These are not Silverchair , this are puppets !
The "Freak Show" helped me through the roughest time in my life, when I was very young and I felt so isolated from the world. I related to those songs and felt like someone else knew how I felt and I wasn't so alone after all. Now, i'm a 20 year old college student and Silverchair has been a soundtrack to my life. All of their music has been great (some more than others) and it's real sad to see it end. It's been a fun ride, man. I'm gonna go listen to "Roses" and cry like a bitch.
It's a matter of opinion I suppose but if Muse broke up I'd still miss Silverchair more.
I like Muse but I find Matt's vocals very repetitive and hard to listen to at some times. At least Silverchair, in my opinion, really shook things upon the last album and had huge anticipation for this one. Such a shame. :(
Where did all this extra studio footage come from? This video was uploaded nearly a year ago and I've never seen video of them recording their new album other than the short clips Ben uploaded to chairpage.
what!!???? I just heard about this. Cannot believe it. They were my favorite band for years and I've always respected Dan's writing...it's been massively influential to my own. Honestly, the new album seemed very exciting to me...very eclectic and rhythmic and atonal and weird....so sad we won't hear it. Sure hope Dan releases SOMETHING very soon.
I think "Silverchair" pretty much ended when they decided that Paul Mac was a member. It was clear from The Dissociatives that Daniel was headed in a completely different direction from Diorama. Which is totally cool, because I liked that side project, but I'm glad they've finally realized that they're not all on the same page anymore. Hopefully this break allows them to each expand their creativity and make the music they want to make.
Ok, let's all stop bullsh1tting here, Silverchair have great songs, but NOT after Diorama. I love the chair no doubt, but seriously, does anybody play Straight Lines in their car? This new stuff is just strange music that does not sound good to the human brain. Seriously, stop kidding yourselves, you know it deep down! I was hoping the chair would rock it out on their last album, and everyone else does too! Again, stop kidding yourselves. Chair, if you don't feel the need to f'n rock, don't tor
@er1cmaurer Yeah I do. I crank Straight Lines in the car because it's a positive and life affirming song! You can't just say that they have not written any good songs after Diorama because over thousands of people would object against that. Young modern was a amazing album as was diorama and everything else they've made. If you're going to make a judgement you have to end that sentence with "in my opinion" not just say it as if it's a fact.
I find it so strange that people heap critical praise on bands like Radiohead for moving on and maturing their sound; but somehow people get angry at Daniel for not wanting to make the same music he made at 14 years old forever. Makes no sense. I just hope some of the recordings from #6 make it out sometime. It kills me to know there is Silverchair music out there that I might not get to hear.
oh man... fucking wimps... i want more... not fair... hopefully daniel johns will release some of that stuff solo or something... they said they had like 50 tracks, how can an album NOT come out of that... fark it doesnt have to be perfect, just has to be silverchair... oh man... im sad now :(
man as soon as i heard i bawled my eyes out, i'm nearly 16 and have been listening to the chair all my life. i've even got videos of my as a toddler dancing to freak show (dont ask me how), and i never got to see them live. i love ALL 5 albums and am really sad that they didn't release their latest, cause machina collecta and 16 both sounded awesome, but i don't know what went on behind the scenes.
all i can say is, thanks for the memories guys, love you STACKS and keep rockin \m/
@1996Jacqui Thats dissapointing to hear :( I got to catch them for their last show in Victoria (GTM Bendigo) that was my concer too. Sucks being born in 95...
hoped the may25th announcement was all a bad dream, but it isn't! still feels shitty about it, but sounds like it's for the best! good luck 'chair on your future endeavours. am a forever fan
I just really hope there wasn't a fight and their not just smoothing it over for our sakes. This is really happening people and although I think it's great they do solo projects it SUCKS just the same. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. I'm sure Dan, Ben and Chris will realize they belong together. This isn't the end!
I'd just like to say thank you to Silverchair for all the great songs and especially live moments, they are soo good live and I was lucky enough to catch them once!
Though, you guys are the shittest to your fans, you never played the songs we wanted and didnt give a toss, you didnt group up at the end and bow, you'd just go off stage. I know I shouldnt be attacking them, but this is really dissapointing, there was such a hype for their new album, and looks like there is nothing now.
@thechaircover that's not true. i didn't think they were shittiest to their fans, i liked hearing their new stuff at shows instead of old songs like everybody wanted (frogstomp/freak show) and was glad they did what THEY wanted.. i met them many times and it was awesome. they were nice and would say hi and wave/smile at me first! i am disappointed though not to hear a new album, i was really excited about this new sound!!! :(
@thechaircover You must always remember that the music Silverchair makes is THEIR music, and it's their show. People have treated them with more than just disrespect, so i understand their reaction
@pedskon well if its their show, then how did they afford to get all the lights and expensive gear? without US? I dont think so, sit down, foolish man.
Daniel is the type of person who doesn't care about what the crowd thinks, because the music he makes is more important to him than what people think of his personal life.
Honestly i think Daniel and the rest of the band would be happy if they could get a chance to get more underground to earn a more respective audience who does not listen to music to look cool, but actually likes music.
Silverchair is the show, not all that other crap that the industry takes care of.
such a shame that they've decided to split up (or go into an indefinite hiatus). they were all over my youth years. you will be missed, Silverchair. thank you for these years. :(
@thechaircover Can't really compare them. Bellamy writes about conspiracy, whereas Johns writes beauty haha ;) However, Silverchair will forever and always be my all-time favourite band. Been a fan since the Tomorrow EP. Every release in america, I've noticed, came out or landed on shelves in my area [at the time] on my birthday. Also, about 95% of the songs I could closely relate to. When I heard the news, I wasn't too shocked as it was inevitable, however, there was an aftershock.
@ja0401 yeah, I liked how you said this, he writes beauty :) I've been fan since Neon Ballroom, when Anthem for the year 2000 came out. Back then I didn't even dare to dream about seeing them live but it happened, four years ago in Manchester. It was breaking news to hear, like part of me and my life just faded away. I hope they find an inspiration and I believe they will someday and get back together. Daniel is born to make art and creations.
Muse is one of the best bands in the moment....but don´t forget.....Silverchair is playing since they have sixteen, this guys are really musicians, they have a lot of more experience than Muse.
Even some Muse songs sounds like Silverchair... So we can say Muse is a poor version of Silverchair.....
@amjan naa, muse is good but, in my opinion (and i respect yours), they don't have the touch and feeling that silverchair have on their songs, nevermind the genre, of course muse have touch and feeling on their songs, but i feel it kinda different
Daniel Johns is a gay shit. made with real Silverchair? throw overboard all the good built one of the best bands to listen. Since I started to dabble in music with gay paul mac, Silverchair stopped being that band that was great to Diorama .....
@AshwinEAcharya awesome I would love to go to australia one day I keep getting pissed because half the australian bands I like never come here (jebediah, blue bottle kiss, etc )
@grocker2701 I'd love to come to America some time. After uni is well finished: hopefully my music stuff will start coming together and we can travel and tour a bit. We got a long way to go though. Ever heard of the band Butterfly Effect? Not sure what their touring is like but you would probably come across them at some stage. I'd rather see them then the modern-day Silverchair... I want to save up and go to Sound Wave next year: that would be Aussie Rock Heaven if you're that keen lol
to all you artsy fartsy fucks, suck my dick. i do think outside the box, which is why i gave young modern a chance in the first place. tried it,didnt like it. so my opinion pisses you all off so much you hurl insults and tell me i dont understand music. lolol who the fuck are you to say that just cuz my opinion differs from yours im ignorant? take a step back, look in the mirror. i just made you hypocrites look foolish.
@creasicle3 i agree that people need to stop coming up here talking shit about his new music. i think that, and the new music is shitty. my opinion, i'm not going to bash Daniel Johns. he's a genious of music! but to say "if you knew anything about music you'd understand...ect.?" that's completely ignorant. they were still inventive. if i wanted to, i could go find some disco bullshit and say that Silverchair is on the bandwagon now! so. think about how ignorant you are before posting something.
daniel johns is a fuckin bitch! fuck you silverchair! diorama was ok but anything after 2003 fucking sucks!!!!!!! what the fuck happened!?!?!?! silverchair was so awesome back in the 90's and early 00's.......FUCK YOU DANIEL JOHNS!!!!!!! and also FUCK YOU NEW SILVERCHAIR FANS!!!!!!! YOU FUCKIN ARTSY FARTSY DOUCHEBAGS CAN SUCK MY HEAVY METAL NUTSACK!!!!!!!!!!
@kimboisabeezt finally someone that sees they are done , SILVERCHAIR IS NOW A JOKE , but dont worry , maybe just maybe they'll put out a good rock album
@razor197 no,poppy dance music is bullshit, get fucked by your dog while you "rock" to straight lines you soft cock! bwahahahahahahaha! the real joke is young modern and the like, designed for pussy little cocksocks like you. get the fuck outta here old silverchair is real silverchair, this shit is just dissociatives part 2. ya fuckin wet cockwallet!
@kimboisabeezt what an ignorant fuck. you must really not know shit about music to post a comment like that, not to mention you sound about 13. your parents shouldn't even let you have internet. silverchair is a great band, i love their old stuff and still listen to neon ballroom a lot but if they didn't progress as a band and recorded the same shit over and over they'd be nickelback. i bet you like them too, ignorant kid. this coming from a musician of 10+ years.
@kimboisabeezt "Diorama was ok"..ummm Diorama was fucking amazing! One of the most well written albums ever in my opinion. The fact that you are referring to Silverchair being the best in the 90's shows how far of the mark you are. A great band is always evolving, Silverchair has done that from album to album. Sometimes it goes somewhere you don't expect, but that's a true testament to them as artists. You have a very adolescent mind for music and art obviously.Try thinking outside the box
@kimboisabeezt seriously why so hostile man.....they are just doing what they want to? If you WERE a fan then why bash Daniel or the band now? I've been loving them since the early days and can't for the life of me get why some people wish they were grunge again. Everything happens for a reason and their progression through the years has been amazing. Just give the music a chance it may grow on you. Anyways hope you'll come around one day to realize they are still fucking awesome!
@Dansilverbabe because silverchair was fuckin amazing with the first 3 albums. diorama had its moments but young modern, and this shit have no place being labeled silverchair. if i wanted to listen to pop disco trance stoner shit,i have that option. i just wish silverchair wasnt among the selection. :)
@kimboisabeezt I'm disappointed to hear you say that just because it means your pigeon holding them. "Diorama had it's moments" huh? lolz dude cmon that is one their best albums. I'll admit you need to listen to YM a few times to really "get it." well your entitled to your opinion all be it a lame one....haa j/k I guess we've lost you among the stuck back in 90's crowd!
I love this new sound! I grew tired of anger as well! Their new songs sound liberating for them, and I've found some healing for my own anger in them. They're having fun with it finally, and it shows! Like to see healthy, happy people.
" They will always be a great band regardless of what all the negative skeptics may say ". Look who is on top & prominent & who is not?, They are & will always be a great and musical mark in our history & that's real folks.
it's been so fun growing up with them - even if they decided to be an acapella jazz band, I'd still wave my little flag for them. They do need to tour the UK more tho, we have shite over here....
dear god. will all these hardcore wankers please stfu. silverchair have changed musically, big deallll they are still the greatest band in existence, every bloody silverchair song I see just has some person complaining about them changing their style. STFU
Hey douchebags, frogstomp was 16 years ago, things change fucking get over it. If you don't like it fuck off! I got so tired of seeing every silverchair vid with "oh man what happened", if you knew anything about music you'd understand their new stuff is far more inventive than frogstomp/freakshow which were basically just on the bandwagon of that time. Maybe what you need is to build a time machine and go back and live in te 90's!!!
What the fuck was that shit.... How could such brilliant musicians pump out this fucking shit.... Its fucking horrible its extreme like alvin and the chipmunks getting high on mushrooms would be... and anything to do with alvin and the chipmunks is fucking shit... Wat the fuck full fucking stop
anyone know when they played their last show ?? and where i can find it??

Honestly i think Daniel and the rest of the band would be happy if they could get a chance to get more underground to earn a more respective audience who does not listen to music to look cool, but actually likes music.
Silverchair is the show, not all that other crap that the industry takes care of.

such a shame that they've decided to split up (or go into an indefinite hiatus). they were all over my youth years. you will be missed, Silverchair. thank you for these years. :(

Poor version of Muse.
amjan 10 months ago
@amjan yep I guess so, but Daniel Johns will forever be a better songwriter than Ratt Bellamy
thechaircover 10 months ago 9
@thechaircover Can't really compare them. Bellamy writes about conspiracy, whereas Johns writes beauty haha ;) However, Silverchair will forever and always be my all-time favourite band. Been a fan since the Tomorrow EP. Every release in america, I've noticed, came out or landed on shelves in my area [at the time] on my birthday. Also, about 95% of the songs I could closely relate to. When I heard the news, I wasn't too shocked as it was inevitable, however, there was an aftershock.
ja0401 8 months ago 2
@ja0401 yeah, I liked how you said this, he writes beauty :) I've been fan since Neon Ballroom, when Anthem for the year 2000 came out. Back then I didn't even dare to dream about seeing them live but it happened, four years ago in Manchester. It was breaking news to hear, like part of me and my life just faded away. I hope they find an inspiration and I believe they will someday and get back together. Daniel is born to make art and creations.

@amjan how? theyre nothing like muse. theyre a trio i guess
Scotch7000 9 months ago
Muse is one of the best bands in the moment....but don´t forget.....Silverchair is playing since they have sixteen, this guys are really musicians, they have a lot of more experience than Muse.
Even some Muse songs sounds like Silverchair... So we can say Muse is a poor version of Silverchair.....
juansetas 9 months ago
@juansetas Nonsense. Silverchair was playing grunge and rock music when Muse had already defined the style that Silverchair only much later aquired.
amjan 9 months ago
@amjan naa, muse is good but, in my opinion (and i respect yours), they don't have the touch and feeling that silverchair have on their songs, nevermind the genre, of course muse have touch and feeling on their songs, but i feel it kinda different

Daniel Johns is a gay shit. made with real Silverchair? throw overboard all the good built one of the best bands to listen. Since I started to dabble in music with gay paul mac, Silverchair stopped being that band that was great to Diorama .....

grocker2701 11 months ago 3
@grocker2701 I would too, I think theyve had their time with expirimental albums, they should just write a 70's rock album ;)

@AshwinEAcharya awesome I would love to go to australia one day I keep getting pissed because half the australian bands I like never come here (jebediah, blue bottle kiss, etc )
grocker2701 10 months ago
@grocker2701 I'd love to come to America some time. After uni is well finished: hopefully my music stuff will start coming together and we can travel and tour a bit. We got a long way to go though. Ever heard of the band Butterfly Effect? Not sure what their touring is like but you would probably come across them at some stage. I'd rather see them then the modern-day Silverchair... I want to save up and go to Sound Wave next year: that would be Aussie Rock Heaven if you're that keen lol

to all you artsy fartsy fucks, suck my dick. i do think outside the box, which is why i gave young modern a chance in the first place. tried it,didnt like it. so my opinion pisses you all off so much you hurl insults and tell me i dont understand music. lolol who the fuck are you to say that just cuz my opinion differs from yours im ignorant? take a step back, look in the mirror. i just made you hypocrites look foolish.
kimboisabeezt 11 months ago
@creasicle3 i agree that people need to stop coming up here talking shit about his new music. i think that, and the new music is shitty. my opinion, i'm not going to bash Daniel Johns. he's a genious of music! but to say "if you knew anything about music you'd understand...ect.?" that's completely ignorant. they were still inventive. if i wanted to, i could go find some disco bullshit and say that Silverchair is on the bandwagon now! so. think about how ignorant you are before posting something.
Jerreb96 11 months ago
actually i think this album will be great! much more related with young modern b-sides ... more dance pop and not artsy fartsy nonsense ego shit...

@kimboisabeezt lol nice vocabulary are you seven?
grow up man just coz we dont like your metal shit doesnt
mean we listen to shit music ahah what a tool
razor197 11 months ago
@kimboisabeezt what an ignorant fuck. you must really not know shit about music to post a comment like that, not to mention you sound about 13. your parents shouldn't even let you have internet. silverchair is a great band, i love their old stuff and still listen to neon ballroom a lot but if they didn't progress as a band and recorded the same shit over and over they'd be nickelback. i bet you like them too, ignorant kid. this coming from a musician of 10+ years.
Emotive10 11 months ago
@kimboisabeezt "Diorama was ok"..ummm Diorama was fucking amazing! One of the most well written albums ever in my opinion. The fact that you are referring to Silverchair being the best in the 90's shows how far of the mark you are. A great band is always evolving, Silverchair has done that from album to album. Sometimes it goes somewhere you don't expect, but that's a true testament to them as artists. You have a very adolescent mind for music and art obviously.Try thinking outside the box

xandder9999 11 months ago
@xandder9999 fine then,bitch. :)
kimboisabeezt 11 months ago
@kimboisabeezt seriously why so hostile man.....they are just doing what they want to? If you WERE a fan then why bash Daniel or the band now? I've been loving them since the early days and can't for the life of me get why some people wish they were grunge again. Everything happens for a reason and their progression through the years has been amazing. Just give the music a chance it may grow on you. Anyways hope you'll come around one day to realize they are still fucking awesome!
Dansilverbabe 11 months ago
@Dansilverbabe because silverchair was fuckin amazing with the first 3 albums. diorama had its moments but young modern, and this shit have no place being labeled silverchair. if i wanted to listen to pop disco trance stoner shit,i have that option. i just wish silverchair wasnt among the selection. :)
kimboisabeezt 11 months ago
@kimboisabeezt I'm disappointed to hear you say that just because it means your pigeon holding them. "Diorama had it's moments" huh? lolz dude cmon that is one their best albums. I'll admit you need to listen to YM a few times to really "get it." well your entitled to your opinion all be it a lame one....haa j/k I guess we've lost you among the stuck back in 90's crowd!
