Very Nice video documentary. I just lost my dad, Elroy Huwe Reg. HQ 501 - 101st Airborne. He was there for DDay, Holland, Bastogne, Bertschesgarden. Saw it all. My video tribute of his full honors commital is available here:
i'm the president of the pa. screamingeagles cyc club ,which my fater was the founder the club started in 1961 on 57th and haverford ave, my father name it after the hundred 1st airbone which he was sgt. in the korea war were the real screamingeagles cycle club , PRESIDENT SOLIDER!!!!!!!!!!
Wow what a great documentary!!!! I always give my thanks to these Paratroopers who paved the way for us young troopers.I met a gentelman a few years ago who jumped twice in WWII and he had the papers and pictures to prove it! A very meek and humble trooper who longed to jump aqain. He was called home to live with the LORD and now has a new set of wings.. AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY...
All paratroopers are Brothers because we share the same feelings. Adventure, challenge and so on. The only thing that differs is the colours of our flag!
My uncle was a 1st Lt in the 82nd Airborne-507th PIR-HQ Company 2nd Battalion and died of wounds [incurred on June 9th, 1944] on June 17th, 1944 during the Airborne invasion of Normandy. I have great respect for these men.
That brought back a stream of memories. I was so young and strong then. I remember those days with such clarity too. I am glad to see this posted. Please don't forget what we did for you.
we will never forget you and your airborne brothers are the hero's we need now more than ever god bless you for what you have done and all air bourne troops
This is just great. My Dad was Capt. Ed Jansen of 501st/C Co. during WWII. Dad passed in 1994 but my Mother and I still attend the reunions each year. I feel very fortunate to be able to call the Five-O-Wonders my "family". They are amazing men. Thank you for preserving their stories, it means more than you know.
On the complete 90 minute DVD these men describe in detail the unbelievable things they did as 18 to 24 year olds from D-Day to Bastogne. I don't think a video game could measure up to that.
My granfather served in the 101st, too. He was in E. Co. 506th from mid 1943 and until he got home from the battlefields of Holland with his left leg missing. He died in '72 when he and my grandmother crossed a street and a car hit them both. My crandmother died of cancer in '81.
My grandfather was in the 101st during WWII. He survived the war, and went on to serve in Korea and Vietnam. He was appointed the Distinguished Service Cross. He died in 1985 from smoking, and is buried in Arlington. All of this has inspired me to join when I get older. 101st.......We Stand Alone. Does anyone know what it takes to be squad leader? What do they look for in a soldier?
The rest is a 90 minute DVD sold on Amazon at ASIN: B000NW8S8G . The DVD has interviews, film and pictures from several more WWII 101st Airborne Vets. Really good stuff. YOUTUBE only allows clips up to 10 minutes, the other parts are all 15 to 20 minutes each. Thanks for your interest. Guy
I like the way you photographed the interviews. You must be a video professional. Great editing and use of old film, photos and historic posters and documents. Well done!
God was on his side :)
