  • @colaffee29 I just started looking it up and a lot of things say its Bilal.

  • @stiny736 I didn't do a ton of research (lol) but wikipedia claims it's Dilla. Not that wikipedia is the be all end all source on information or anything.

  • @colaffee29 Oh yeah man, I saw the same thing. I thought I deleted that comment.

  • Actually that's bilal on the chorus. Not dilla or Dwele.

  • @colaffee29 Dilla!

  • Aahhhwww man,,, who dislikedd :O shame on yo ass!

  • @ATLhometownATL it probably was on accident lol

  • I love soul filled melodies that can stand the test of HipHop time from now until FO EVA

  • I only just found out that Dilla is the one on the chorus of this track...he was just too much..

  • @Gdotkat I didn't even know that! Even more proof that Dilla was the best Hip-Hop producer ever! Just my opinion!

  • common, nas, talib kweli, tupac..... and some others but those 4 are true poets on the mic... they spit the type os shit they need to teach in a high school and i bet graduation rates will increase

  • @GEasy5 dont forget Mos Def

  • I love this song so fuckin much.

  • RIP J Dilla

  • This was my fave joint on LWFC. Dilla did it wit this beat (RIP).

  • This touched my soul in special place ..

  • Happy Birthday Dilla! Greatest producer ever in hip-hop, with one of the nicest MCs. This song represents what a perfect hip-hop marriage is about.

  • @rjmallik I would have to disagree with you on that statement... You could put one producer over the likes of Pete Rock, Premo, Dr. Dre, etc... I think it's a matter of opinion. But I do agree that Dilla was definitely in the upper echelon of producers.

  • I love real Hip-Hop.... all this crap out now piss me off everybody rap about the same stuff

  • if i could describe this song with one word it would be perfection. not one sound or thought was out of place. and anything added wouldve just clashed. it doesnt get much better than this. hits home on many levels

  • fucking genius

  • This is hip hop!!!!!! This that time mainstream has forgot about!!! when all different kinds of hip hop can blossum!!!! Now.. well you all know. We have lost control of the music we created! That's why it isn't to our liking now. Because the people that run will never have soul!!!! REMEMBER what I just said you guys.

  • common is hard fuck all da haters

  • common is hard fuck all da haters

  • my favorite cut on the album. the entire wax is solid though

  • I honestly don't understand how people spend all there time arguing with reality. This shit right here. Its imagination. You get to listen to the best hip hop with many brothers who are probably blazing away with you to this tune. Stop the hate on youtube. Its all one love.

  • the baseline reminds me of "Find a Way" when Dilla was producing w/ ATCQ

    RIP Dilla

  • this is my ring tone.

  • i love this song the beat the lyrics its so mellow

  • so chill. i can dig a rhyme that refers to nag champa.

  • Can someone tell me where 5:00-5:12 comes from?

    It sounds fawkin' awesome!

  • i escaped from the heavens itself...that's the message this song brings...

  • @Forge11108 --- Common is not underground and never really was. Conscious lyricism does not = Underground.

  • @bournedevinesupreme my bad, i wasn't talking specifically about Common, I was just saying in general nowadays

  • @bournedevinesupreme , common was underground when he made can I borrow a dollar!

  • @bournedevinesupreme Common's very 1st album was pretty underground. Produced by The Beatnuts, calling women hoes & what not. It's pretty underground to me!

  • true... ive been stuck in underground hip hop for the past 3.5 yrs and now that listen to mainstream the lyrics are so senseless and plain

  • THIS MASTERPIECE IS RARE CLASSIC AKA THE TRUTH

  • incredible song. it doesnt take a minute to recognise that.

  • Learn this, if we don't improve from our mistakes...we won't get better. Ergo if we don't acknowledge the crap out there won't all music be the same?

  • yall don't know...when i first heard this it was love at first listen...HIPHOP runs deep here...made me step up my writing...first song that got me emotionally off that line "my verse depth is lke that of a babys first step, or the old lady who died and the nurse wept" wow...if it wasnt for this dude i wouldnt be the writer i am today..".takes common practice to reach common classics"...WAKE UP, LISTEN!!

  • i think jay was underated on his singing i really like his voice his beats are made with jesus

  • @dariusut3 dilla was the truth!!!

  • Jay Dee had such a smooth voice

  • gotta blaze up one to this, probably one of my faVORITE HIPHOP JOINTS ever,Common always brings the real lyrics that make ya think about life,n Dilla(r.i.p) with a beat thats jsut so soulfull, its insane, real hiphop 4 life

  • I love the mainstream....Honestly, Do you really want to give good music to the masses?? Can you imagine what they would do to good music? They would destroy it. So enjoy joints like these, and let them have mainstream

  • @madhatter536 Man that is truly a unique prospective, this genre of music represents a more artistic approach that is far outside of the spectrum of the norm.

  • this takes me back to middle school. thinking that there wont be another album like this ever again almost brings me to tears no joke. classic.

  • True!! this takes me back, real hip hop!!

  • True!! this takes me back, real hip hop!!!

  • IF ANYONE KNOWS THE NAME OF THE JDILLA BEAT AT THE END OF THIS SONG PLZ SHARE!!!

  • @logann I know raekwon smashed that beat on baggage handlers. I'm sure u can find it on youtube somewhere

  • @jubie5285 nice thanks

  • @logann ...Baggage Handlerz, Reakwon

  • @logann Its actually just an interlude to the next song on this album

  • The beat at the very end of this video. What song does that lead into?

  • j dilla is one of the realest producers, hands down like 6:30

  • i love common his beats are all good as hell

  • dilla rip

  • DILLA!!!!!!!! he was a demi-god

  • Hip Hop

  • Nice music...relaxing

  • Tout simplement ma chanson préférée...jamais je ne me suis lassé de l'écouter!!! A chaque fois, elle me fait planer...Can u feel dat music, oh oh oh!!!!

  • it dont matter if The Light was getting play on Mtv or Bet back in 2000, i remeber that too, i was 18 @ the time. the thing that matters was common, mos def, talib & a bunch of other true hiphop artist at the time were keeping it real with real beats & lyrics..it was all that No Limit rap and other shit from the south that was really getting main stream attention..im sorry to disagree but common was not yet mainstream in 2000, he was still keeping it real with true hiphop

  • Dilla Live on 4ever!!!!!!!!!

  • @MasseDArchitecT so f*ckin true... !!! Forever Dilla ...!

  • this song is so real

common has so much swag when he flows over this beat and the lyrics are so beautifully written and poetic

dillas voice has a hypnotising effect the way it blends with his beat

this is by far the realist song i've ever herd

somthing about it feeds deep within my soul

but at the end of the day its just music yall

let common's words encourage us to look for oportunities to serve our community

"affecting lives is where the wealth and the merit is"

  • @SupremeSupreme777 And I thought It was just me..lol I feel u..

  • who know the sample for this one
