running with scissors is prob the most messed up book i've ever read, but i can't put it down (still reading it but so far that's my impression of it) it's so... weird. I'm not saying i hate it, cuz so far i really like it. it's just unlike anything i've ever read.
lolz its called "running with scissors" by augusten burroughs
i just started to read his work, i loved wolf at the table and itd be cool if they made a movie for that, im always curious how others see a story. and this book is hilarious btw..good reading material x]
i dont know why but i rented this movie when it first came out i think i was 12 so when i saw this i was totally freaked out and it was a bit akward because my mom was watching this with me:P
i read this whole book in 2 days. and that's shocking because i really hate reading. this book is amazing but i don't really like the movie. i don't think the book was portrayed the best by this movie.
Im just going to go ahead and say it: I hated this movie. Every minute. I tried to get into it and found myself incapable. Horrible. Good acting, though.
Def want to see this soon. Ive read this book and really enjoyed it for its Crazy, surreal, witty and bitter ways. Ive since then read his recent memoir...A Wolf At The Table, about his deeply sad and particulary estranged, kinda scary relationship with his father. I TOTALLY recommend it too. His books always leave me wanting to know more about him. Infact i would recommend all his books. Look em up if ya have the time! :)
Read it! I just finished it and saw the movie, and that book is now one of my favorite books of all time!! It's just so addicting, it's like some twisted drug in the form of an autobiography! Well, you get it, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this book.
I totally agree!! I remember the skylight being one of the best parts in the book, and I remember him saying they were like "knee deep" in the dry wall, but in the scene there's nothing!! And yeah, they asked for money to buy a window and they crappily put a window in. That part was just so awesome! They shoud've gone all out in the movie for it.
i'm currently readin the book. i saw this last year with my friend, and i heard the book is a million times better, so i'm readin it b/c it's a million times better.
There are two ways of watching this movie. If you are with your friends you wil love it and laugh a lot. If you are by yourself then you will look at it from a different prosprective. It's a very sad, moving film and it is amazing
I've seen this movie and though i enjoyed it very much I must inform evryone that the trailer is very decieving. It's actually pretty depressing. Very few humorous scence.
I agree; there were a lot of funny moments in the movie, true, but the trailer makes it look like a comedy from front to back, which it wasn't at all.
Oh my god-- I thought the only person I'd recognize was Alec Baldwin, but Joseph Cross was in a 'Law and Order: SVU' episode that was so good I watched it over again on the three separate occasions it came on.
It was horribly sad, he was brainwashed by his over-paranoid mother into basically killing his kid brother. She lied to him and put horrible ideas into his head, and he was SUCH a great actor, but I never saw him in anything else.
Im almost finished reading the book (which i love) and not yet seen this movie (which i hope to soon) but was wondering how much of the book do the follow and how much do they change? Because i can't imagine this film being as graphic as the novel alludes to.
OMG! I love this book! I read it over the summer in like 2 short days, and i haven't seen the movie yet, but my sister said that it didn't do the book justice... i am going to re read the book for a school project comming up too... so is the movie worth watching or am i wasting my time?
well if you think about it what the story is about is really depressing augusten even said when he first wrote the book it was really depressing but then he made it more funny cause when he read his journals they made him laugh but what the story's about is a depressing subject

I can't believe that there are people leaving comments saying that this is the best movie ever! I thought this film was the worst film I saw all of last year. And this is coming from a guy who normally loves off beat indy films about fractured families. Every single character in this film was a one dimensional caricature. The editing was terrible and it was just really long and boring. A much better film in the same vein as this would be The Rage In Placid Lake in my opinion.
I'm going to go ang watch that film, thanks for the recommendation. I still think this is definitely in my top5 of best films of all times :) I loved it very much, i cried to death.
Why does the Finch's house look so nice? They are supposed to be slobs and Natalie is supposed to be fat. I haven't seen the movie yet, but i've read the book.
Why are all of the characters attractive? Natalie is supposed to be fat, the mom is supposed to be a nut, the house is supposed to be trashed. They dolled it up way too much.

it's ok that the movie is different - i hate it when directors follow the book exactly. Anyways, everyone who's read the book knows the genuine story.
o geez, ur right, I totally forgot about the lumberjack!! That was one of the funniest (and confusing with a dash of nastiness) parts in the book. Do they actually have it...or did the movie skip?
you are so right, Natalie is not supposed to be skinny and pretty, besides she wore dirty clothes and as for what i've seen on the trailer she is not doing that in the movie, wich totally changes the character...
as far as Vicky, what the fuck is wrong with the director?? and about Bookman i think they did a good job, he is supposed to be hairy...
what's that song that ends the trailer, or begins when natalie and augusten are making a 'skylight'? I really like that song. Artist or song name, please.
someone know the name of the first musical piece? just before baldwin stop talking, the one with the guitar, or if not the name at least the artist who plays it please.
wtf? this looks nothing like the book. i read a few pages & it was talking about gay sex using hair gel as lubricant & stuff. perhaps theres more then one book called running with scissors(?)
horrible trailer production. anyways cheers to my favorite movie

Those Pretentiously flat people who chime in with their- "Book is better than the movie"
Are ignorantly blind to the differences in artistic mediums. I think the book just feeds their narcisstic disfunctional "Identity"
Whereas the movie offers much more in the way of performance, execution, music etc. Their opinion is simply self righteous for
reading the book. Others choose not to read it, and the opinion of the movie is better, and more pure.

you are so right, Natalie is not supposed to be skinny and pretty, besides she wore dirty clothes and as for what i've seen on the trailer she is not doing that in the movie, wich totally changes the character...
as far as Vicky, what the fuck is wrong with the director?? and about Bookman i think they did a good job, he is supposed to be hairy...

yeah that made me mad i wanted her fat! :D

three things:
1. Natalie's not supposed to be skinny and pretty. She's supposed to be chubby fat, and slightly pretty or something like that.
2. guanjon, that is the whole book. I actually liked it, but the hair gel thing scared the crap out of me.
3. Where's Vickie? I want the hippie girl!!!!
4. Bookman's ugly. and hairy.

Comedies don't fair to well at Oscar time...neither do Scifi movies.

It looks like the critics don't like it...too bad, because the trailer looks funny.
peltecs 5 years ago
It's not really a comedy. The trailer makes it look that way, but it flips back and forth between super depressing and hilarious.
