@amandaptonyluv Yeah the go betweens did that long intro bit and radio just didn't go for it,such a shame, but we were spoilt for great music back in the 70/80s
FIRST ALBUM TUNE FROM A GREAT BAND SADLY UNDERATED !! THANK GOD I WAS THERE IN THE DAY !! MUSIC WAS MUSIC THEN UNLIKE TODAY !! HOW MANY BANDS COULD YOU LISTEN TO NOW ? NOT FUCKING MANY !! FROM A CHILD OF THE LATE 60S WHO SEEN ALL THE GREATS !! SEEN THESE AT GLASTO WHEN GLASTO WAS GLASTO NOT THE CORPERATE SHIT IT IS NOW!! I WOULDNT GO IF YOU PAID ME !! NEVER PAID TO GET IN AND NEVER WOULD !! ROCK ON THE OLD TIMES!!!!!
well, @nyomythus is very rude...if you don't have anything nice to say...DON'T say it AT ALL.. one thing everyone should know..and if you plan to argue with me go ahead, but that won't harm me in any way and it won't lead to anywhere.
I was stationed in Germany in 1086, found this record in a used German Record store and was blown away by entire album. When the day came. I upgraded to CD! Now I'm listening to the Furs on an MP3 player. They span several generations of technology!
@dvargashell Chicago, back in 1980!! I remember talking about this record w/clerk at "Just for the Record" around the corner from Wax Trax. The clerk was Al Jourgensen. Around the time he was starting Special Affect. He turned me on to Killing Joke. Man, saw the Furs at Tut's (the upstairs venue by the El). Sure wish I could get in the Way Back Machine....

From and old USA cycling Cat 1 road cyclist, back in 1980 we traveled and raced to this music. Raced at, by Gods grace, with Tour D France winner, Greg Lemond. This stuff made us go real fast. Saw the Furs warm up for U2 somewhere, sometime, in that other life. Powerful stuff
I first saw PF in 42000 BC as amoebas crawling from the ooze of life, was a great show. Not as well put together, but considering... (how is that for self qualifying statements?)
The Lyrics are from the perspective of an Imperialistic British man, scoffing at India in a way then accepting it's beauty in the end... It's how the country won over people, it's spirit was too strong to be broken.
I first saw the PF in 1981 at the Lyceum in London. The first support band on that night was either 'Thompson Twins' or 'Inner City Unit! But, can anyone explain the meaning behind the lyrics?
When I first got to Europe, everyway station was playing this stuff. Germany, France, Spain, etc. I had no idea who they were, but, damn, they were popular, and for good reason. So was Robert Palmer. So, I finally asked an English- speaking Spaniard. "Quienes esta?". Ellos son los "Psychodelic Furs". I bought their record in the discount bin at El Rastro in Madrid for 200 pesetas. Best goddamned money i ever spent.

oh my god, put on headphones and turn it up. I Feel the wall of sound flooding my senses. The Chugging rolling rhythm section feeding my adhd straight through my viens, and atomic guitars mushrooming the skiy in my skull.
I absolutely love this intro. Just makes me want to peddle around aimlessly on my bike....

The way he says "India... India..." sounds like "Into your heart... Into your heart..."
I'm sure that was intentional. Richard Butler is the man.
