YES, it does matter! It shows the rarity rate of original cubes, because of the place and year it was made. A great collector of original cubes just asked me for the Santiago cube, because it's a lot harder to find than the Taiwan cube. So the value of each of them are very different.
For a professional competitor, the color schemes is VERY important, because they know the opposite colors to find the pieces easier during the algorythms.
the one with red next to orange is worth a shitton of money cause even though they have variable color schemes they are usually just white yellow blue and green red and orange were almost always opposite they were the fixed colors

I have an old Rubik's Cube with white opposite blue, red opposite orange,green opposite yellow.
I did not realize till last week when I bought a new cube (November 2011).

This original Rubik's Cubes are old versions, and in 1980's, the usual opposite colors are not definitive yet.
