@DallasisaLeo He was under no obligation to make the video in the first place, let alone translate a part that lasts about 30 seconds. He's perfectly at liberty to translate (or not translate) the song how he wants to. That's why I thought you judged him a little harshly.
@iWearAmask If you post a video of yourself on YouTube you open yourself to judgment. My opinion is perfectly valid, as is yours. I believe it was a little lazy to just walk away during the German part and it took away from the video. Would you like to have an endless and fruitless argument about whether that was the right thing to do? Honestly, I have better uses for my time.

@cheerldrn Actually, if I were singing a song in German (a foreign language in which I'm only intermediately proficient, so the equivalent, I assume, of ASL for this guy), and it had a small part that was in Russian (which I don't speak at all), I would take the time to learn the Russian part. Nena chose the lyrics 99 Red Balloons because Kevin McAlea (translator) needed three syllables and, while "Luftballons" makes sense in German, no one says "Air balloons" in English. Furthermore, German 99 has one syllable more than English 99. The color red was also chosen for it's symbolic and relevant meaning as a symbol for communism, I'd assume.

Even before I knew that you were hard of hearing and that you had a deaf family, I noticed certain tendencies indicative of ASL fluency, such as how comfortable and relaxed your signs are as well as the complete lack of hesitation when you sign. Usually in youtube videos you can see ppl hesitating with their signs.
Keep up the great work! People are definitely being entertained and educated!!
Blake is hard of hearing, the only one in his family, and adopted ASL as his primary language. He is Deaf, as in he's involved with Deaf culture and whatnots.

No, he has bad hearing. He can hear, just not well, like old people kind of? His family is deaf though.
