  • I never had a relationship with my dad and this song hits me hard when i listen to it. But it also makes me proud that everything i have learned and done was on my own (for the most part) and im making a promise to myself if i ever have a son that i will be there for him unlike my dad was for me. To the sons that had good relationships with their dads i envy all you

  • people think an 11 year old boy could not understand this they are wrong

  • This song chokes me up every time.

  • 106 Bieber fans shouldn't have come here. They should stick with their own childish nonsense.

  • @marksoutof10 stop crying for attention

  • @frasermcminn0 Fuck off, cunt.

  • Listening to this song will hit you right were it hurts and really open your eyes to how much we need to teach and spend time with our kids, because next time we have the chance they may not be there. They grow up like you do they look up teach them well leave with your kid holding his head high and proud to say that was my father.

  • Aww this song is sooo cute .i love it

  • Last time I heard this song was just a kid, about ten or so. Now I'm in college. I wonder if I will hear it again when I have a son of my own.

  • time goes too fast. i'm just 21, but not doing much the last few years, I see how much I'm seriously behind compared to my peers. Take action to do things now, or it will never happen.

  • the words alone bring tears to your eyes i have a five year old who i try to spend as much time with as possible this song made me hope i can live up to being a good father i already know im his hero by the way he emulates me all the time.. its just scary to think what if i fall short of making him proud to be my son.....

  • The world would be a bit better, if the term "pride" wouldn't be inseparably connected with "violence"...

  • For my friend jd christenbury

  • This song makes me cry it makes u wonder how long ull have family, a bf, people who love u.

  • so sad and touching. still brings tears after a generation. to create that, what a genius. i will never be smart enough to decipher or understand his internal tortures, but he sure helped my life more than once when times got tough.

  • This song was the first media form to accurately show my relationship with my father. His new family and tough job take up too much time and time is too short in life. Everytime I hear this, it really hits home.

  • i study in another country and i was hearing this song when i saw a picture of my dad and me when i was little, i started to cry like for 1 hour or 2 , cu's i missed him soo much , you never know what you got until you lose it .

  • reminds me of my son

  • Song makes me cry its so true. My son will be 17 in a few days and man does this song hit my heart hard!!

  • I love this song so much♥

  • I'm a guy, and I still cry whenever I hear this. Just today, I was with him and this song came on, and I felt it.

  • I love you dad, i miss you so much :(

  • I feel like a odd one out cause I only see my dad for about 4 hours a day and only actually spend about 30mins with him every other day but me and him have the closest relationship than anybody in my family

  • Can't make it through this song without tearing up.

The real irony here is, Dad was the one always wanting to plan activities. But I was more interested in playing stupid video games and getting stoned with my stupid "friends". Now I'm a sophomore at university and trying to plan things with him on his busy schedule.

This makes me realize how much I love my dad... I subconsciously emulate him. I'm joining the military to be like my SEAL father.

    He's my goddamn hero

  • @corporateCoffee As soon as I get my High School degree, Me and him are going to that recruiting center, and me and you both are gonna make them proud.

  • @KualaBob Don't ask don't tell bro.

  • @Stefandurrr True.

  • @corporateCoffee right on man, your so lucky to have a father like that, mine is a rotten to the core ass.;@*&. yeah man!

  • @leonpashley

thanks man. trying to make the best of the time we do get to spend together

  • Beauitful, ive hit replay so many times.

  • This is the only song in the entire world that can make me cry. It made me realize how important my dad is to me.

  • My parents were divorced when i was like 4 or 5. i got to see him every other weekend until about 3 or 4 years ago when he moved to Florida, now i only get to see him over the summer and talk to him over the phone up here in VT.

  • I love this song a lot. My dad showed me this song first. I can kind of relate to the boy in the song because my dad is in the Air Force so I don't get to see him much. Once a month...if I'm lucky:(

  • am i the only one getting chills listening to this song?!

  • My mom showed me this song in hope I would talk to my father, I am 14 and didn't know my dad my whole life until about 2 years ago, but I pushed him away.

  • Hey now paletine I don't have either of those but I still love this song that's a cold statement lol

  • 104 people do not have a father nor son.

  • This Hits you Hard thinking about your own father

  • I've lost my son to stupiness on my part,

It's been 6 years,I'll will not see him again, nor speak

    it's a little death everyday

  • @humboldt1red so sorry dude.

  • @humboldt1red dying everyday too ....wish I could go back ....hope one day he forgives me or at leasts understands I thought it was best for them

  • It hit me hard as a teenager thinking about me and my dad. Hits me hard looking into the den and seeing my son. Hope I have not made the same mistakes. I think I did ok.

  • My baby boy will be born Feb '12. He will be a King. ...nah, sounds awesome tho' :)

  • I remember my dad was never around too much, and the times I did see him when I was little I tried to enjoy, but I always tried to say, "I want to be just like my dad when I grow up."

My parents divorced when I was 8, I went with my mom, and now I rarely see my dad.

Still, when I do see him I try to make it the best, and as I've gotten older I realized that the reason he and I grow further apart as the years go on, is that I'm becoming more like him than I think both of us wanted.

  • The original and the best!

  • amazing!!

  • THE MORAL IS, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.

  • @Killumanited john lennon said life is what happens when you are makin plans for other things. thats the moral.

  • I want to cry every time I hear this song. Time passes by while we ignore the signs it gives us about the things we must change and by the time we see our mistakes we are old and life has passed us by.

  • my dad is always away but i still love him and he says a fathers job is to make his son better than him

  • so ugly whatever dosnt sing this?

  • Happy Birthday Harry.

  • A friend at work Played this song at work for I realized I'm my father

  • I can see why this song scared him.

  • Love this song... I have the feeling I'll play the shit out of it when my dad passes... Happens that my name is Josh and my dad worked a lot but was still always like my best friend :)

  • This song is good on two levels...

    1. It reminds me to never take things for granted and to love the people who brought me into this world.

    2. It also reminds me just how deep a character Thane was in ME2.

  • My father just passed away december 1st. I heard this on tv just a moment ago and had to listen.. I cant stop crying.

  • stay strong man.. stay strong.. idk if your a boy or girl, but just stay strong. its okay to cry. just dont do anything wreckless, dont let your fathers death be in vain. im sure your father taught you a lot of things, and youll be able to pass on what you learned from him to your kids and there kids.. stay strong and represent what your father made/raised with pride... but remmber its okay to cry. @70541nightslashes

  • How does he do this song without crying? It's so amazingly beautiful.

  • I am only 22, but I do like this song. This song really reminds me of me and my dad...

  • I will remember all the emotions I got from this song the first time I heard it. It was amazing, I was about 10 and my music teacher sang it for us. My relationship with my Dad was well then, but for some reason this song got to me. Now, he is just like that Dad.

  • my teacher used to sing this to us when i was 8. i just found it yesterday. and started crying for the first time in a long time. lol i felt like a wuss. but whatever

  • Song hits a grown man hard, if you dont feel this your not human

  • @villan210 im 17 and it gets to me man my entire morning was horrible cuz of it so dont just say grown men

  • @villan210 I'm 14, i don't feel anything, i looked this song up just because i saw it in the office, i'm not human to you?

  • @KachaksWova He said grown man

  • @KachaksWova If you wanna be a smart ass no, ur only 14, haven't lived life, never been in this situation and your comment suggest your immaturity.

  • @KachaksWova Weird. I'm only 15, and i still almost had the urge to cry thinking about how my dad feels when i don't want to spend time with him........

  • @villan210 one of the hardest songs to listen too as I see my son grow up now in his 20's

  • @villan210 Agreed 100%, new to being a father, he was just born wednesday. Think of my father and look at him, hits me real hard.

  • This song makes me cry everytime. I love you, dad.

  • just after reading how this man died while listening to the end of the song, never felt so annoyed and saddened like this in a long time, don't know how i'm only finding out what happened to this genius now. it's sad. always the good die young..

  • Can't ever end that song without crying =\

  • Im trying to listen to good music and I see a rihana add and the moment is ruined. God i hate trash like that.

  • Fucking song makes me remember of onions all the time

  • 103 people are deaf

  • I need to call my dad...

  • who ever likes this thinks the people who dis liket this video are retarted

  • This song in italian is defined a "CAPOLAVORO"

  • 240p we meet again

  • This song is so sad, yet meaningful.

It shows how life is too short

  • Thanks, @Rlalita, for sharing!

  • Dislikers are A/Holes. Fab song!

  • He said it scares him to death ! well I'm living the song now n boy it's hits me dam hard too. great song but boy can only listen to it now and again.

  • 102 people obviously have dogs in the cradle

  • @JimmyB7678 It's up to 103 dislikes, I thinkt they're reproducing. Perhaps we should post a youtube video about safe sex?

This song is a timeless and absolute masterpiece. My only problem with it is that Harry Chapin died way too young, and never got to write songs that may have been better yet then this one.

    You are missed, Mr. Chapin

  • This makes me wanna see my dad :(

My parents got a divorce when I was just about to turn 14

    Talk about a shitty birthday

  • A men song, no woman can understand

  • @DeppTDi false.

  • wanted to give my son a hug after hearing this song

  • irony is that i used to dance to this song with my dad in the garage and then this all happened just like the song. i'm almost 19 now and i'm trying desperately to change it because now he's the one asking me to come over and i have to say no for college :( i love you daddy

  • 102 people have no souls

  • This song is depressing.

  • i love this song. i am currently 22. i was lucky my dad and i had a great relationship. i lost him to cancer when i was 17. this song always brings tears to my eyes.

  • @lylegardner247 maybe you did not have quantity but you had quality time. This song is about fathers who dont give their kids time... its so sad,.. when I was 17, I was learning english and I liked the song how it sounded it. Now i feel goosebumps in my throat when I listen to it...

  • @electricgreek or a son..... i know that doesnt make sense but i lived this song out and am not proud of it

i retired and now spend all my time with my kids

  • God I love that song. Scares me too Harry. RIP

  • It's a very old song and it used to be on the radio constantly. As he says in the beginning, "And frankly this song scares me to death." iow - It's a cautionary tale.

HC died at 39 in a terrible car crash, so he never became old man enough to find out if his fears were warranted.

  • 102 people aren't dads

  • he doesnt get along with his dad

  • Lived with my Dad for 15 years and was working with him when he died, we had mo cats, but a lot of love.

  • a great great song

  • This song makes me tear up EVERY time!

  • a fucked up song if you think about it.

  • 100 people are lonely and don't get this song.

  • ok who are the 100 people who actually went out of their way to click the dislike button YOU HAVE NO SOUL SIRS!

  • Love it

  • fkn beast

  • :) such a great song

  • Jim and Harry Chapin. What a great father and son pair of musicians. How anyone could dislike this mans song is beyond me.

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Harry Chapin at one of his concerts. He signed a book of his poems for me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. Very nice man. Wish we could have enjoyed his music longer.

  • Legendary Song. *-*

  • This makes me cry so bad.. I wish I knew my father.

He ran out when he found out mom was pregnant.. at 17.

What an ass.. Sadly.. thats quite common now-a-days. Men are pathetic.. like if you agree.

  • @ImAbandoningAllShips Not all men are that way, in fact most aren't. I'm sorry that your dad ran out on you but by saying that they all men are pathetic, you only reinforce the thought that it's ok to do that sort of thing because it becomes the accepted norm in their minds. As a male I do agree that men who that sort of thing are pathetic and should take responsibility for what they helped create.

  • @ImAbandoningAllShips LOL way to paint all men with one fell swipe of a brush. Get over your daddy issues already. Blame your mom for having unprotected sex at such a young age. She probably doesn't even know who the father is anyway.

  • @jchawks08 LOL you're pathetic. she knows exactly who my dad is and btw i was planned. so im not blaming her for anything.. i've talked to him once on the phone, and he sends me money here and there, but hes nothing to count on. but my point is dont go around saying my mom was a slut and doesnt even know who my dad is, you dont know her and you dont know me, so dont go around making assumptions. k thanks

  • @ImAbandoningAllShips Good solid decision to plan a child at age 17. They really thought that decision through, huh? But hey at least your here alive and well. Well you're alive anyway. Yay for that, right?

  • @ImAbandoningAllShips Your dad might have been a douche but I don't think you should hate all men for it. My niece's mom lied to my brother about being on birth control so she could become pregnant and force him to be with her. She might have been a bitch but I'm not going to judge all women based on her actions.

  • Great song! I can never tire of this classic.

  • My dad played this song for me when I was 5 years old, I've been listening to it ever since

  • its just perfect moron

  • he sings this well...just ok. maybe slow it down a little.

  • Life's a scary thing.... goes so quick.... this sums it up....

  • "It's called Cat's in the Cradle. It's about my boy Jack, and frankly it scares me to death." I couldn't ever phrase anything better.

  • this song hits so many levels, BRAVO thanks for the post

  • This song scares me. I am becoming a doctor in engineering and when my girlfriend and I get mairred we will have kids. I dont know what I will be doing how busy I will be during my career.

  • damn this song is so deep

  • most all his songs are

  • this song is beyond son-dad relationship its about human condition today

  • @batboyjhg Fathers can be just as important in raising a child as a mother can.

  • It's ironic don't you think? For Harry Chapin to create such a heart-moving song about the father-son relationship, and for him to die in a tragic car accident and leave his boy Josh without a dad... Now there's a lesson we should all learn!

Fantastic song Harry! We all thank you!

  • the 99 people cried to much during this song so they missed or intentionally pushed it since their father was an ass

  • This song is about my son Jason. He went through so much without his dad. I almost lost him so many time's. He needed his dad. Today he has two little girl's, & he is the best daddy in the world! That son of a bitch doesn't know what he lost!

  • Does he say it's about his son "Josh"?

  • 98 people hate their father. Their father hates them too. Luckily 6379 people like their father.

  • A strong message for all fathers beautifully done.

  • Ich bin erst 21, aber dieser Song hat mein Leben schon geprägt und er wird mich immer an meinen Vater denken lassen.

  • Harry Chaplin - Cat's in the Cradle; Cat Stephens - Father & Son; Neil Young - Old Man

  • 98 people have no ear for good music, how the fuck can you dislike this?

  • The dog's in the bed with the golden fork.

This has to be the best song ever written :)

  • That guy looks just like Marshall Erikson...

  • HOW DOES ANYONE DISLIKE THIS SONG REALLY?

  • @pauljcjr

    idiots... that's how... ;-)

  • @pauljcjr

Maybe the reason of dislikes are white stripes and bad video and audio sync?

  • Comment removed

  • because they didn´t find the awesome/love button, like RiosEliteBravo said "I love it" :D

  • @pauljcjr I believe that most of the people that dislike this song dislike the video more than the song

  • GOSH TELL YOUR THERAPIST NOT US! JEEZ

  • @SarahhKimberly lol

  • i will be your your cigare

  • Replay Button. Replay Button. Replay Button. NOW!

  • I don't like this song.... I LOVE it... it's sort of a downer but a picker-upper? If that makes sense at all.....

  • @RiosEliteBravo It is so true that it hurts

  • @RiosEliteBravo It's because by downing you it encourages you

  • I met Harry 30 years ago in Belfast.Because of this song I make time for my son.

He should have had more time!!!

  • I think that there is a little of this song in everyone.

  • Nice

  • mom left, she'd call, say she'd visit.not come.alot.we made a game, we were actors.'mama's coming home' game to clean the house top to bottom, make food,'get ready'.good joke.laugh.cry solo.ditto xmas, bdays.she'd ask what we wanted.send zip, maybe not call.we started saying 'nothing'.military dad long shifts, back to back.he'd call, bring candy bars when away.he'd talk to 'mom' about her acts, take us 2 her.don't talk to her now really, she tries wish she'd stay gone.we used to listen to this song.

  • does anyone else choke up everytime they hear this song?

  • I love harry chapin...his music is great

  • No that was harsh sorry rough day

  • Hey I'm not dead inside and so clone yourself so you can go fuck yourself

  • anyone who didn't feel even a little sad listening to this song is dead on the inside...

  • Growing up I as always in love with my Dad's music, so I grew up with songs like this, and one day he told me that if nothing else, he wanted to make sure we didn't end up like this, and looking back, I wish we had, because these two still talk. Now my dad can't stand the sight of me, and his wife likes it even less, so she feeds it.

  • This song needs no description.

  • And in related news, I see Harry Chapin is here on stage, probably out on tour, & I don't see his son anywhere.

  • suicide is a permanint solution to a temporary problem

  • @mindisgemini.. Thank You but no apologies neccessary. I had a Great and Loving and Responsible hard-working Father. Comment was made for an ex.

  • i first heard this song when played by ugly kid joe but the original is so much more emotional and almost brings a tear to your eye

  • so based #fb

  • Sad that Harry couldn't even see his son grow up because he died when he was just 38.

  • great song damn

  • .........ghey
