  • Thanks !!

    I fixit in five minutes!

  • thanks man, i totally just fixed a monitor that was on its way to the scrap heap! now i get two monitors! thanks a ton!

  • Easiest hinge to make is cut a small strip of duct or packing tape out and stick the button to the surround. Works a treat.

  • Thanks for making this vid. My monitor power button broke last week. I asked 2 local computer shops if they could fix it and they said no way! I did a quick search, found your vid and an hour later it was fixed. I just took the button out ... the cheap plastic hinges were of course worn out and broken off.

  • @macrokosmic Saving money is always a good way to start the new year.

  • yes indeed .. mine has been broke for years.. i just fixed it using a PERFECT spring from inside any old computers power button.. and some Loctite brand Epoxy for plastics.. the purple tube. The button is SO sturdy now it will last forever.

  • Thank you very much for doing this video. just repaired my dell 19" I had over a year off.

  • man.. iwanted to let a game i was playing keep running all night but i used a mouse click script that would not let the monitor enter sleep. i used to just turn it off but i broke my pw button years ago on this same model monitor.. now i have the confidence to fix it.. thanks man! i work on pc's and never try fixing monitors

  • @Sladeofdark Same here. It wasn't until I saw a YouTube video of someone taking apart a Dell D'oh! monitor that I scrounged up the courage to rip mine apart. That's the power of the internet. One good deed begets a thousand other good deeds, and so on. An exponential cascade of good will.

  • tks

  • Tyvm

  • @sam00568 Yawd.

  • I have an old gateway laptop, POS

  • thanks for the video

  • please make a video for hp 2009 monitor power button repair

(my power button is not working)

  • @ASDFG8732 I don't have that monitor. It's up to you to make a video on how to repair the HP 2009. :) That's how these videos get on YouTube.

  • Thank you so much, this video solved my problem. F Dell.

  • @bobaprince99 It isn't Dell specifically, it's the monetary system as a whole. You'd have to F all the bankers.

  • Thank you so much. I noticed I could get mine to work prior to the repair by using my finger to spin the button so the symbol was exactly in the same position as the day I bought it. Though it did not have exactly the same clicking feeling as the other buttons it still worked but it was annoying to spin. Your video finally fixed me!! To bad they made such a crappy button for a high end monitor of the time.

  • @TheDeliciousDonuts Congratulations, young D.I.Y. Dell D'oh repair person. You have completed the first phase of your Dell D'oh training - mastery of your Dell D'oh finger.

  • Does anyone know if the 2405fpw comes off in the same manner?

  • @Fatchan83 If it looks like this one it most likely does. There aren't many other ways to do it. Try it. What do you have to lose?

  • Don't forget to blame God (All That Is) for nuking your monitor in the first place?

  • Praise God. Thank you for this exceptional video. Got my monitor fixed, learned something new, and felt pretty cool taking apart a computer like the computer science whiz who lived next door to me in the college dormitory.

  • Hi, thanks a lot for the video it is really helpful.

my power button on my BenQ G2400w just broke today, do you reckon the front bezel comes off just like your DELL monitor? I would assume it does, just wondering what you think.

    Thanks alot!

  • @lnVerTeD I don't know, but if you take the back off and you can't access the button panel from behind, then it probably will come off from the front. Seems like a standard config for all flat panels. Just dig around and see what happens. It's the only way to find out. What do you have to lose? He he. :)

  • Your video's helped alot xD unfortunately before I saw it i tried to take the black cover off myself using a screwdriver which cracked the screen and rendered it useless woopdeedoo :P

  • @Ubaroo Today's lesson: Always Google before doing anything that might, even remotely, damage your Dell D'oh! Cause nobody wants a broken Dell D'oh!

  • Thanks so much. I have a Dell 1707FPc but it looks similar and the repair was actually the same. I was able to do it. In my case I had to remove the power button, it was too messed up to salvage. I used the tooth pick and turned it on. Thanks!!!

  • @khanocka I'm glad you were able to turn on your Dell-D'oh with a toothpick. Now you can use it over and over again, just like old times. ;)

  • Thanks so much. It saved me a fortune. The only thing I spent money on was a #000 philips screwdriver for the screws on the circuit board.

  • @mshorts OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO(cough)OOOOOOOOOOOO!

You missed my video on how to make a #000 philips screwdriver for NO MONEY!! Double Dell-D'oh! ;)

  • @thinkofwhy I don't mind buying tools :)

  • Really, really helpful.

We have 60 of these monitors and were prepared to damage one to discover how to repair it. You saved us from doing this. One repaired monitor, happy user, happy IT department!

    Well done

  • @stephensolt

Dell, you've really done IT now. He he. Good practice for when the other 59 fail. D'oh!

  • It really worked. My warranty has expired. So you saved me a lot of money. Thank you.

  • @robertoacgc It wasn't me, it was Him. Ya, that's right. Him. Shazam!!!

  • when I turn off my secondary monitor, which I use when webmastering, it won't go on again without a reboot and a lot of fiddling. So I leave it on all the time, wasting power. Not a Dell, though, but maybe I'll give a repair a try. It has to be a mechanical problem. I think my solution might be an inline power switch I can put on the monitor power line and keep on the desk.

  • @cybervigilante I grant ye the power to make it so.

  • I have 5 of these monitors. Had 3 repaied by Dell . I thought it was power supply. Then warranty ran out, I paid for 1 repair myself (that's 4 monitors). When the last broke, I thought that it just does not make sense for power supplies to be breaking like this. And now, thanks to this, I got mine working again.

and if u think of it.. 3 warranty exchanges for dell. 3 round trip shipping charges plus labor. They should have donne it right, the first time

  • It seems to be common issue. And it seems like it is designed to fail. How could they not have stress tested the buttons? Maybe a class action is needed?

  • If I am going to have to do this,,,

I should put a piece of paper between bazel and display so that i won't drop screw between cracks.

  • Or use a piece of tape to lift them out. But they will only fall into the housing anyway. They won't get lost. Pretty sure.
