  • we didn't mean that much slow

  • segment 4 is way to long! :D

  • thanks

  • the lesson is too slow dude, i get lost :S

  • hmmm why hes guitar strings look smaller ??? plz some one tell me lol im trying to play this solo & i dont get the same soun

  • hold space when it gets too fast ;)

  • i cant tell what your doing on segment 6

  • yeah please that first note is all i came here for and i can't get it that high how do i play that....

  • @ohappyppl it's an artificial harmonic, all you have to do is put your thumb near the bottom of your pick and then just hit the note with a lot of distortion.

  • Comment removed

  • the very first note. the harmonic... i can't do it on the neck pickup :(

  • @UltiMogr It just takes practice, you'll get there eventually. Make sure the volume knob is all the way up on the guitar, and the tone knob too. After that just practice.

  • Well, that was cool. Dave sure loves bending notes !

  • Great video, any chance of breaking down Segment 3 into 2/3 parts, its a bit tricky pls

  • thanks so much for this tutorials!! i really appreciate it!! grats from Chile!

  • cual delay me recomiendan boss dd3 dd6 dd7 o el de digitech?

  • it would be nice fast version too so i can compare but thanks.

  • is this tuned down half a step

  • @Donriin4Crossfire kk thanks

  • love the movie "the wall"

  • i don't understend the segment 3..

  • thanks ! you have helped my son on this one 2

I truly appreciate you putting up these tutorial lessons

  • thank man

  • hi duey,i need to get this sound mate ....can i get it using only one multi effects unit.....is that all ur using here line6 pod xt

  • Is the first note a pick harmonic?

  • @marinepeter yes

  • Thanks !

  • Segment three is impossible :S (ik it isnt, just exaggerating about how hard it is lol)! Your playing to fast *cries*

  • thank you

  • Awesome video! My ONLY complaint is that people are asking very obvious questions/ arent reading a single comment and asking repeated questions. Other than that... Thank you. Ive been trying this solo for about a month now on my own and your video is by far the best for helping me figure out the parts I missed.

  • is this standard tuning ? :)

  • @JFG97 yes standard E

  • I take guitar lessons and I learn notes and stuff like that. But ear is so much easier.

  • Rock on dude. P.S The Simpsons is the best show ever. P.S.S The Simpsons has about 500 episodes.

  • What tuning?

  • This guy, Gilmour, is, IMHO, the GREATEST Blues-Rock soloist, and there are MANY "great" ones. BECAUSE he doesn't play fast. He uses FEEL AND EMOTION. Like Elvin Bishop, but better. Anyway, YOU are a FANTASTIC player, and an even BETTER teacher, for this guy. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I Have played bits, before, but YOU gave me the incentive to DO IT. (Bows)

  • How does the string at 0:31 sound like that?

  • @Deathlupus It called a pinch harmonic-you "put" your thumb on the string after you press the string.

for more information about this, you can find here: /watch?v=5I5O8P-r5Rk

  • segment 3 1:37

  • Love it - thanks. Sometimes I find it hard to quite get the beat in slow-mo. are you playing half time? maybe a metronome click could help us nail the '1'.Really appreciate how much time you've put in :)

  • Bravissimo complimenti davvero

  • VERY nice of you to take the time and post all these lessons. Your "feel" for Gilmour's style is spot on...as is your tone. Condolences on the loss of your sister. The music does help to get thru the tough times. Shine On!

  • Hey, one quick question..

How do you guys clean your guitar before/after playing?

Your guitar looks so smooth, mine's always kinda rough.. and even if i use fastfrets, its effect wears off after a few minutes playing and then gets even rougher.. :S

    Great solo btw! :D

  • @JaniteQP i'm having the same problem but i'm to solve it...

it seems if you back down the pressens on your amp it cleans up a bit and become more smooth. i also back down a bit the treble and mid.

for now my settings are: presence 3 treble 6 middle 3 bass 4 drive 4(~)

i also added a compressor and reverb to make it sound more like the record.

i'm very happy with this tone for now.

  • @JaniteQP by the way...i play on a les paul.

  • @JaniteQP clean it..

  • @JaniteQP Just wipe down with a slightly damp cloth after playing and wash your hands before. You probably have sweat which oxidizes strings very quickly like Richie Sambora who changes his strings each time he plays! If you use to many chemical products it'll wear down the wood on the neck. You can use a string cleaner by putting it on a cloth and running up and down the strings pinching them tightly in your fingers which will remove most of the oxidation:) keep a nail brush and wash first!

  • Awesome

  • hey men, what scale can i use for the improvisation?? thanks.

  • @andmaci what scale is this in? i am a beginner

  • @OpnEye3 from 7th fret to 12?

  • @OpnEye3 In spanish its name is LA in english i think it is E

  • Hi Duey...thanks for the great guitar lesson!! Much appreciated! I learned the first solo note to note as I felt that was the big one. On the second one, I am using some of your (Davids) stuff on here, as well as my own stuff. I noticed you use a Charvel Charvette from the first solo video. I have one too. I love mine!! :) Rock on Brother!!

  • Great job. thanks so much for a great lesson. we need more lessons like this one. Again thanks!

  • thank you, thank you ,thank you

  • what are your settings for your amp gain, treble, etc. and what effects are you using

  • yeah.. it´s really good.. thanks a lot.. a do it for about 1 month (including the first solo) and your videos very helps me =D last thing - how do you do the first note?

  • I WACHED THIS FILM whith my dad yesterday. It really good haw they can capture the image of Him it is also a great CD movies... Great vid

  • Dude I know its been said enough but not enough thanks could be said man. You actually slow the song down tempo wise but the rhythm is still correct if you just metronome it up. Nice bends btw, one thing that's actually harder to play slow cuz you can hear if they are sharp/flat.

  • Segment 4 is a tricky bitch...

  • @TheMissedOfficial It took me a while and I know it sucks but I took segment four and just watched his hands and made a sloppy tab in a notebook. Its easy then cuz you just need the rhythm. I dunno worked for me.

  • @chedwerks yeah, i got it now

  • Comment removed

  • great video still to fast for me lol

  • If there is ONE AND ONLY guy playing correct and P E R F E C T all these Pink Floyd songs with SO clear video and expert ways to help anyone is out there and want to learn some rock with his guitar and with OMG SO DAMN SAME SOUND WITH GILMOUR then i have to say that............ this is you my friend...!!!

    A THOUSAND THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jim...

  • ...and at 3:03 and 3:34?

  • what chords were you playing at 2:51?

  • too fast and segment 4 is so long. maybe 10 segments would be better

  • Duey great lesson thanks' for the help

  • ur a saint mate..

  • i cant find a good tab for this song

  • what gauge of strings are u using ?

  • the lick that starts at 1;15 is not EVEN right! What the hell? Teach it right girl, or don't teach it all.

  • First, the beginning of the video is brilliant :)

Ok, I have a suggestion. Showing it slow is great. Helps get the fingerings right. But, if slow is all there is, you lose sense of what the bars are supposed to actually sound like. I dream this solo and I got lost in it a few times. Try playing it at normal speed, then the slow version a few times, then once again at normal speed. That will help maintain perspective with the solo.

    Good stuff!

  • yes, lots of chorus and reverb.lol very good tutorial though :)

  • I hope that you have a "Sorrow" tutorial coming up.

  • lol i almost think this is *too* slow... hard to make out the melody if you havent listened to the solo a million times before... good thing i have. but yeah, very helpful, thanks mate. btw, pod xt's are awesome!

  • what was that cartoon stuff in the beginning from?

  • @TheMrintensity the movie the wall

  • you right you learn much quiker so thanks:)

  • hi,nice tutorial, can you tell me what key or escale is this solo? thanks

  • what settings on your pod you useing? i usually just use mine for delay and some of the mods.

  • hey man, thanks for this vid, im learning the solo, im currently on segment 5, when ive learnt it fully i wanna upload a cover vid, is it cool if i post that vid as a video response? :)

  • the movie the wall itself needs to be in hd...I.E. blu-ray!!! anyone else agree?

  • Hi Duey,

This Video is a really BIG help learning this solo. I think about doing this for nearly one year and never took the time, now you gave me the motivation to start and now i nearly got it. Thank you very much.

  • @falloforti That's great and I am happy I could help you learn this solo. :-D

  • @duey101 great lesson dude...

  • @falloforti yea great lesson for sure, most lessons are filled with bla bla bla... followed by showboating

  • I dont use tabs either.. Just play by ear.. I can read tabs but find it a lot quicker to learn by ear.. Anyway what settings or effects are u using for this? High gain? Little delay? Cant figure it out

  • @osnix

    72 Silverface Bass amp

    FX Killer-Z distortion

    Analog delay w/modulation

    Sine Chorus

    Cavernous Reverb

  • @osnix

don't know if troll or just very stupid.

  • thank you for showing us how it's done

  • EEEEExcellentt!

  • standard tunning?

  • Those strings look so thin..lol those 9's?

  • wow

  • oh my god you don't use tabs!!!!!

  • Nope, I can't really understand tabs, my ears work better for me! LOL! :D

  • @duey101 i dont understand tabs either

  • @duey101 thats how I learn/play too. Tabs are too time consuming. Ear is better.

For my 'Gilmore' sound, I just use Boss CH1 chorus, SE 50 delay, overdrive from the lead channel on my Marshall TSL 122 combo.

    Fantastic videos by the way!

  • it would really help if you posted tabs for this, because there's like a 1 second delay between the audio and the video.

but thanks a lot anyway, ur amazing, u really helped a lot, much appreciated :D!!

  • Beautiful tone

  • Duey you super guitsr player!!!

do you play solo " what do you want from me"? if you play, record its video!!

    Please!!!

  • great tutorial! would it be too much to ask for tabs? :)

  • Sorry, I don't know tabs, never use them. I play by ear.

  • The effort you put into teaching the rest of us is truly appreciated. I get more out of your videos than all the others combined (you're the only one who plays the damn songs correctly).

  • What Pick up position works best for this?

  • @harris361 to the bridge of guitar

  • Hmm, ive been learning this with middle pickup because on my strat the bridge pickup sounds a bit thin, and i cant think why.

  • @harris361 your bridge pick up may be set too low. if the pickup is too far away from the strings you will lose alot of sustain and tone.

  • @BadleyHairless could it be my amp? Im using a Marshall AVT20,

  • @harris361 well, if you don't have the same problem with any other pickup then it is probably not your amp. You can easily adjust the height of most pickups, there should be a screw on either side of the pick up that will adjust the pick up's height (not the screws on the corners, those are holding it in place)

  • @BadleyHairless Cheers mate, i will have a mess tomorrow,

  • you got pinch harmonics in a day it took me 2 months t get that but i learned to strum extremely fast 5 min after a got my guitar

  • awesome lesson but its just a little 2 fast for me as i only been playinf for 3 months

  • Amazing Tutorial !!!!!!

ThXXX for your time,to help other people.

  • Cheers mate, much joy is being had learning this. This is an excellent tutorial, very accurate. Ric

  • Wow

  • that BK Butler Tube Drive that David Gilmour uses sounds sooo intense... just the sound lol

  • Hey Duey- great demos! I LOVE the sustain on that Charvel! I think the slow/fast videos help me a little better because I like to see in realtime what you are doing. I do an acoustic cover of this song, and just got a boss rc-20 loop station and it has opened a new door for me for lead work. Please don't stop posting!!!!!

  • From a 55 year young guitar player, thanks for this rendition! Do you have the tabs to your version? No matter as you a great job in the speed step down. I never really tried to play this until recently and there are so many versions. Either the album or the many concerts I have seen (70s and 80s), It seems Gilmour plays this different every time, but stays in the Pentatomic and Dorian Mode. Great job. I have a blue'93 PRS Custom 24,"10 top" quilted bookmatched "Blue Muse", as I call her.

  • great job! thank you so much!

  • great job - how do you make that first note sound like that?

  • pinch harmonics silly!

  • i think...

  • Yeah pinch harmonic, as you pick the string follow through with your thumb to stop the string vibrating. This will give you a harmonic. Hard to master, I've been tryin' for months but can't get it down haha. I'm only self taught though so let me off lol.

  • questo è il tutorial più facile del web...lo sto imparando grazie a te WOOOOOO 5/5

  • OMG I can learn this......

  • this is awesome i made it just the same as you it was ecxilent great job=]=]

  • I certainly like your tutorials. Thx for taking the time to make and post them. Much appreciated. :-)

  • excellent, what are your POD settings--great lead sound

  • Great job! loved it. ..

You dint play the squeal in the 5th segment. . .

  • Thanks a bunch. The speed was consistent, obviously slowed down and I the applied it at a slower speed to learn it. Well done!

    Do you do any Schenker?

  • In my opinion your lessons are the best pink floyd lessons on youtube, could you please do a lesson on the 2nd solo of dogs, theres not 1 lesson on youtube for it, please answer back.

  • Yes Fippy I will get to that, right now I am working on the Albert Hall version of Coming Back to Life.

  • and iiiiiiiii have become comfortably numb...............on this great tutorial :)

  • Ya. In my oppinion it's a bit fast. Maybe a little slower next time. I wasn't able to use this lesson. But for the first solo you did great!

  • lol cant please everyone with speed. personally I think it's spot on as a start off but a speed inbetween slow and normal would be good to play along to to help build speed up. From slow to normal is quite a jump lol. I'd also like this solo at slowish speed played all the way through without breaks, it would help with flow I think. still an awesome tutor track

  • this is why I likes youtube.... thnxf or posting

  • THANK YOU so much for posting this...u have no idea how helpful this is

    10/10

  • hey i've watched all of your videos ;) they are awesome, i've learned another brick in the wall, money, time and comfortably numb watching your videos, thanks a lot, i only have a question, what are the amp settings used for comfortably numb, cuz i've tried a lot of different stuff to try and get a ver y similar sound to the original solo, but i just cant get it, i have a 15w peavey, hope that helps, thanks alot again ;)

  • what movie is that at the beginning???

  • "The Wall", the movie to the album "The Wall".

    It's great;)

  • man...srry but u did better on the time lesson..this version u dont show what its supposed to sound like normal speed and so its hard to keep up with what part ur actually on..just a suggestion

  • Comment removed

  • no,thats a kinda of the middle part of the movie men

  • NICE LESSON MAN!!!

  • What are your settings on the PODXT (I really like the tone). Thanks for any help :)

  • Dude, THANK YOU so much for posting this...u have no idea how helpful this is...thanks to u I can finally learn this solo, and I've really been wanting to learn this one

  • You're welcome. Actually I do know because I was looking for this solo too, and then I just decided I would learn to play this and all other Pink Floyd solos too. So now we can all learn. :-)

  • where i can found the tabs?

  • Thanks for the tutorial, amazing job...

  • could put the notes across the bottem of the vid so we can see your hands and the notes? thanks great vid btw

  • why did you bend 3 times at the begining instead of twice?

  • Great job!! excelent videos, if one day you can put DOGS solos it'll be great...they are beautiful

  • is the beginging part from the movie???

  • Yes, and a good movie at that.

  • Thank sguys for the help in the comment box i figured out how to do pinched harmonics NOT WELL but i can do them....practice makes BETTER not perfect :D

  • Try Justin's lesson on pinched harmonics...

TE-012 • Pinch Harmonics (Squealies) Guitar Lesson

  • watch rockongoodpeople's vid on pinch harmonics i can make it squeal really good now

  • Alright I got the slinkys, if you woulden't have made this video I would have been plaything this the wrong way. I'm beginning segment four but segment one seems to have more notes than in the song? I'm not sure if i'm hearing it the right way, I should get it soon thanks man!

  • Hmm... could be one or two notes off somewhere in the lesson, remember... "I am not David Gilmour... but I play him on TV" (YouTube that is)

  • This lesson looks great, thanks for doing it so slow. I have the thick strings on my Les Paul I think I have to pick up a pair of slinkys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks, it really help

  • where is your vibrato :P

  • segment 4 is kicking my ass lol

  • how do you do a pinched harmonic

  • Google, Harness its power

  • you hit the note with your pick but as you riseup with your pick hit the note again with your ring finger or if you are doing downwards picks use your thumb.hope this helps

  • the easiest way is as your holding the pick hit the desired note and slighty bump your thumb across the string as you hit it. if you are having alot of trouble try holding your pick differently. if you bump it to hard you will just end up bad note so just pratice and you will get it in at least an hour or so

  • while strumming let your finger just lightly touch the string but u gotta do it fast or u while mute the string

  • d you have tabs ?

    thanks

  • hey man am a big fan of ur lessons there perfect to learn from from!!!! was jst wondering if u had any plans to do echoes???

    cheers
