@DespinaKouros Δεν "προσκυνώ" την κ. Μούσχουρη. αλλά και θεωρώ κατάφωρη αδικία να αποκαλείται "ευτελές γύναιο". Επίσης θεωρώ άδικο να εξισώνονται τα παιδιά της κατοχής (εγώ γεννήθηκα έξι μήνες πριν φύγουν οι Γερμανοί από την Ελλάδα - όχι ότι θυμάμαι τίποτε από τότε) με τα παιδιά του Πολυτεχνείου. Ό,τι μικροσήμαντο έγινα, έγινα μόνος μου - όχι εκμεταλλευόμενος κομματικές διασυνδέσεις. Και φυσικά, οι σημερινές μου ¨οικονομίες" ανέρχονται σε 3500 ευρώ.

I think this is all very sad, and a very good example of why singers should not get involved in politics. Of course she's entitled to her personal opinion but she really should remember that many people listen to what she has to say. I am a great fan of her voice and her music, but her politics and mine are very different. The saddest thing is that she unites people with her music but divides people with her comments. She really should stick to singing - and leave politics to the politicians!

What is outstanding is the repayment of credit Hitler forced the Greek bank to pay. This is before the European Court in The Hague. The war debt you are referring to is not proven "debt". That's why it is in European Court. It is a huge sum of money that Hitler forced the Greek National bank to lend the German Reichsbank after he invaded. There is a propaganda in Greece,against Nana Mouskouri.She has to pay,for her love for freedom,independence,justice,unity and peace. She 's doing to much,for a woman of her generation,from a poor family.She 's not compromising,it's obvious,look her artistic career.We can not understand her, she 's in front of her era. @Nananut001 The picture of the statue of Venus is supposed to show how Greeks currently feel about Germans. Not a tasteful way of illustrating it and as I said BILD newspaper is propaganda. Reparation payment after the war was in material goods - this was decided upon after the war to prevent another one from starting like it did after the first. What is open and currently before court in The Hague is whether or not the credit Hitler forced the Greek Bank to lend Germany needs to be repaid.

The Greek word I read was orghi', and the well-known book of Steinbeck's "The grapes of wrath" is translated in Greek as "Ta stafee'lia tis orghi's", so I decided to use this word. @Nananut001 Her attitude is correct and truthful. Germany is paying in the most money into the Eurofund and as a token of respect, the German Embassy is smeared with swastikas. The date quoted (as a reason to link everything to Nazi Germany) is incorrect also. The interview was given just after 29.11 and was first published in Berlin newspaper on 11.12. If you are interested in a proper transcript, let me know, I will translate it for you. It is a long interview.
@HeinzHornsby Before I forget it: You seem to be a perfect handler of English. So, please avoid putting an apostrophe on "its" whenever it does not mean "it is". @lakislakis7 This text in this video is not correct. It is a misrepresentation of what Ms. Mouskouri said in her interview. It never ceases to amaze me how many people just believe what they are being served withoud researching it themselves. She, as many others, do not accept the easy way of saying Greece is in it's position because of World War II. That is simply wrong - there is so much more in the original interview than in this video.

I have read the article in it's original unshortened version. It focusses around what is called "anti-german" sentiment - and it is this she is ashamed of. She also stipulates that it was a mistake to focus on only building a "Europe" solely on economics - there can be no alignment without cultural common base. Nana is more right than she is wrong. Those that are outraged at her shouldn't be. they are not being honest with themselves and the situation. She said she was ashamed of the fact that some of her countrymen sprayed Nazi swastikas on the German Embassy. The western world has misused the opening of the banking and finance system and on a country and personal level have borrowed too much and repaid too little....that goes for everyone. It just so happens that greek debt is the highest of the bunch.
How can one be annoyed with her honest opinion. The Greek economy was heavily funded with credit funding from the E.U. The fact is also that they should never have been allowed to join as the EU definitely knew the "books" were false. Highlighting the fact that Nana Mouskouri's German Tour is organised by German companies is ridiculous - who should organise it? A japanese company? The song was produced in Berlin in 1961 - so a jubilee tour in Germany does not seem out of place at all.

@DespinaKouros Δεν "προσκυνώ" την κ. Μούσχουρη. αλλά και θεωρώ κατάφωρη αδικία να αποκαλείται "ευτελές γύναιο". Επίσης θεωρώ άδικο να εξισώνονται τα παιδιά της κατοχής (εγώ γεννήθηκα έξι μήνες πριν φύγουν οι Γερμανοί από την Ελλάδα - όχι ότι θυμάμαι τίποτε από τότε) με τα παιδιά του Πολυτεχνείου. Ό,τι μικροσήμαντο έγινα, έγινα μόνος μου - όχι εκμεταλλευόμενος κομματικές διασυνδέσεις. Και φυσικά, οι σημερινές μου ¨οικονομίες" ανέρχονται σε 3500 ευρώ.

Μούσχουρη είναι άδικοι σημαίνει "αυτομάτως" αναισθησία προς τους συνανθρώπους μας που υποφέρουν; Κι έπειτα, εκείνη έκανε μιά συμβολική κίνηση αρωγής (που την ακολούθησε και ο σεβασμιώτατος μητροπολίτης Μεσογαίας και Λαυρεωτικής κ. I think this is all very sad, and a very good example of why singers should not get involved in politics. Of course she's entitled to her personal opinion but she really should remember that many people listen to what she has to say. I am a great fan of her voice and her music, but her politics and mine are very different. The saddest thing is that she unites people with her music but divides people with her comments. She really should stick to singing - and leave politics to the politicians!

What is outstanding is the repayment of credit Hitler forced the Greek bank to pay. This is before the European Court in The Hague. The war debt you are referring to is not proven "debt". That's why it is in European Court. It is a huge sum of money that Hitler forced the Greek National bank to lend the German Reichsbank after he invaded. This is why it could be a "credit"...which of course I support that Germany has to repay if it is so decided.

I respect Nana and I love her. She said in many interviews that it is a lie that greeks are lazy and she added it was unfair to ask people who live with only 500 euros a month to make sacrifice.

As for the compiler of the video - there are too many people on the face of this planet that ill quote and distribute badly translated snippets of a conversation. @Nananut001 The picture of the statue of Venus is supposed to show how Greeks currently feel about Germans. Not a tasteful way of illustrating it and as I said BILD newspaper is propaganda. Reparation payment after the war was in material goods - this was decided upon after the war to prevent another one from starting like it did after the first. What is open and currently before court in The Hague is whether or not the credit Hitler forced the Greek Bank to lend Germany needs to be repaid.

@HeinzHornsby The bad translation (from Greek to English) was mine. The Greek word I read was orghi', and the well-known book of Steinbeck's "The grapes of wrath" is translated in Greek as "Ta stafee'lia tis orghi's", so I decided to use this word. Anyway, I am more interested in Mrs. Mouskouri's attitude than in the bilateral relations between Germany and Greece. Thank you, and best wishes to you, too.

@Nananut001 Her attitude is correct and truthful. Germany is paying in the most money into the Eurofund and as a token of respect, the German Embassy is smeared with swastikas. This is what she is ashamed of...also of people blaming everything on the last war when Greece had another war and dictatorship inbetween. She is not ashamed of her country at all. She just does not condone the politics of the last 30 years.

@Nananut001 I just copied the greek text above to Google translate and realise where the problem is. It's just a bad translation and creates the wrong impression. The date quoted (as a reason to link everything to Nazi Germany) is incorrect also. The interview was given just after 29.11 and was first published in Berlin newspaper on 11.12. If you are interested in a proper transcript, let me know, I will translate it for you. It is a long interview.

@HeinzHornsby Before I forget it: You seem to be a perfect handler of English. So, please avoid putting an apostrophe on "its" whenever it does not mean "it is". Two examples from your messages: "The interview in it's entirety lends more context than the misquotes..." and "..saying Greece is in it's position...". On the other hand, in "It's just a bad translation" the apostrophe is really needed, and it is correct. (to be continued)

@lakislakis7 This text in this video is not correct. It is a misrepresentation of what Ms. Mouskouri said in her interview. It never ceases to amaze me how many people just believe what they are being served withoud researching it themselves. She, as many others, do not accept the easy way of saying Greece is in it's position because of World War II. That is simply wrong - there is so much more in the original interview than in this video.

I for one applaud Margaret Thatcher who in her time warned that exactly this would happen: The larger states would make the profit - the smaller would bear the consequences. Why some politicians chose to behave like lemmings and just signed up for this beats me....my guess is fear of being left out. I have read the article in it's original unshortened version. It focusses around what is called "anti-german" sentiment - and it is this she is ashamed of. She also stipulates that it was a mistake to focus on only building a "Europe" solely on economics - there can be no alignment without cultural common base. I am not pro-European as such...however, the facts are correct and not just for Greece....for many other countries also. There can be no politics of envy (i.e. - he/she has more than I)

Nana is more right than she is wrong. Those that are outraged at her shouldn't be. they are not being honest with themselves and the situation. The government of the past 30 years has caused this, and i agree that Greece should not have been allowed to join the EU. it's a mess now, but they have to accept that major mistakes have been made and it is time to start correcting and paying back. it's very unfortunate for them, but to say Nana sold out or is a sell out is total ignorance.

She said she was ashamed of the fact that some of her countrymen sprayed Nazi swastikas on the German Embassy. The western world has misused the opening of the banking and finance system and on a country and personal level have borrowed too much and repaid too little....that goes for everyone. It just so happens that greek debt is the highest of the bunch.

How can one be annoyed with her honest opinion. The Greek economy was heavily funded with credit funding from the E.U. The fact is also that they should never have been allowed to join as the EU definitely knew the "books" were false. Highlighting the fact that Nana Mouskouri's German Tour is organised by German companies is ridiculous - who should organise it? A japanese company? The song was produced in Berlin in 1961 - so a jubilee tour in Germany does not seem out of place at all.

First of all when Greece entered the E.U. had the required economy and just so you know even now we are the 1% of the european debt to banks etc. We are labrats for economical experiments. You keep calling us Greeks lazy and thieves but the truth is the E.U. owes us more than we do to it/her,specifically Germany. Greece has never been given the compensation from WW2 which are a lot more than today's debt and could have been used (1/2)
